  1. It's a friday for the EE for the property pull out, not sure about the P&J though
    Thank You :D

I think they carry pretty much the same ads tbh - one paper I did manage to check the other week had three leased properties. Might have to just trust to the ASPC web site searches to pick up new stuff as it comes available.

I'd avoid Aberdein Considine if I were you, deposit munching bastards. They charged me for gardening costs - they checked the property two weeks after I moved out in the middle of summer, of course the grass is gonna be long.
hah. Sounds like a good scam that - "retaining 50 of your deposit for a cleaning company because you haven't dusted once since moving out." ;)
Not sure whether Scot-Ads would have much to offer, might be worth a look. It's worth applying to the council - low rent and (sometimes) big flats.
I reckon I'd be lucky to get more than two council housing points at all even if I was sleeping on the beach! By the time a house was available for me in the current economic climate my change jar could probably buy a flat...
  2. Wednesdays ring a bell for some reason. And i was quoting that post as its papers that generally have the private lets in them. I haven't seen a flat let in shop window in ages :p
It'll be midweek I can visit most often so Wednesdays is good news, cheers :D

Maybe the shop window ads have died out in the deen...

I keep checking the shop on Byres Rd but for some reason they're all Glasgow flats~! X)

  3. Read a paper.
from my first post in the thread, added emphasis to aid reading comprehension:
So far I've got the most obv websites (ASPC, s1homes, gumtree) and I'll check the Evening Express / P&J when I can.

But any tips on others or newsagents windows or the like to try?

I can spend a couple days a week in Aberdeen trying to sort somewhere out.

So aye, reading a paper had occured to me but

    - is there any particular days the EE/P&J run flats to rent adverts?

    - are any of the free papers worth trying to source for flats when I visit?

Strangers to a city often find it difficult to find that "secret" really good newsagent that has flat ads in their window so any hints for that would also be much appreciated!

Ta for any help though :)

  4. cheers one and all

Avoid APL/Primelet (same firm) like your life depended on it.

Have a search here to find a more recent thread about why.

thanks for that, I'll nt waste time considering anything they offer!
In the last year, II've had dealings with a firm called Morna Petrano (or similar) & whilst they at least know the law, I was not impressed by their penny-pinching handling of a fairly straightforward neighbour problem.
i've not dealt with morna through business but i've met her and she's ace. really happy positive person. :)
I may accept friendly faced penny-pinching more readily than others ;)
I've heard poor things about Peterkins! Particularly to do with the return of deposits.
Hah. Peterkins are my solicitors dealing in other matters in Aberdeen so it might be best to not get involved with their property side as well!
I say steer clear of companies who want to take a huge admin fee such as 100+ especially when it's a deposit plus one months rent up front.
this is my fear and why I'd much prefer a private landlord but without recommedation from other tennants finding the good ones is tricky :S
  5. So I'm looking to rent a flat in Aberdeen (not a room or flatshare btw) - Where's best to look?

Student only places are no use (for me but others might benefit so post them anyway!

So far I've got the most obv websites (ASPC, s1homes, gumtree) and I'll check the Evening Express / P&J when I can.

Also does anyone have any other advice? Landlords or agents to avoid? Areas that won't take kindly to folk fae foreign parts? Or even anyone with any good recommendations of brilliant cheap places & nice landlords?!!

  6. I went a visiting and ended up in Cafe LAN :(

Cos none of the pubs I tried could guarantee their wifi was working before I got my laptop out to check which seemed like a lot of hassle if there was no wifi... They should have lied and I'd just have bought a drink rather than work sober on those horrifically uncomfy seats in Cafe LAN, next time I'm bagsying a sofa.

  7. Triple Kirks has it.
    slain's also do it.
Cheers, those two should satisfy my urges and still manage to be familiar enough and close enough to the train station. :)

And also make me wonder why I walked past them the last time I was up and didn't see them advertise it with even a wee badge or summat outside their doors :S

As for taking the laptop to the pub, I don't even think about it as other than fine during the day and early evening but I'd agree later on when the likelihood of stumbling, spilling drunks is higher then nah.

  8. Are there any in the city-centre?

Had a quick look around the other week and didn't see any blatantly advertising wifi. When I gave up and went to The Bassment for a pint & decent tunes and asked I have a sneaking suspicion the bar person there checked the bottles of spirits incase they had any named "wifi" ;)

Starbucks &/or Cafe LAN ain't any use btw, I want a strongbow with my internet on my next visit.

  9. Was up in Aberdeen this weekend past and headed out on the Saturday night and gotta say I was suprised at how quiet places were!

10pm Saturday night in Cafe Drummonds = around a dozen folk in. Moshulu at midnight = the same. :SThey did get busier once we'd been in for a bit but it's unsettling to not have to fight to the bar and have plenty of choices of seat on a Saturday night out in a city-centre ANYWHERE!

I'm planning on coming back up in a wee bit so urmm, any suggestions on where I should go if I want to share my alt/rock bias night out with more than a handful of other people?!

  10. wow, last.fm neighbours mentions onlynik and I think "I recognise that username" so I do a search, find my way back to aberdeen-music.com and discover Eric Bogle's playing the Lemon Tree. Excellent stuff.

    The internet: small world.

uploaded a wee handful some of which may be of interest, (my pics really were just all drunken snapshots of good mates of mine from "back in the day"). I have a couple others somewhere that show upstairs of Ritzy/Bonkers from an engagement party I had there around the same time (Dec '92) :S

    pics are at http://gallery.aberdeen-music.com/showgallery.php?perpage=20&cat=3019

Also checked the suvara website & am wondering if Flossie is the same Flossie from The Lorelei, they were damned fine band according to my slightly hazy memories...

I'm thinking that it's just confusion with CPL trying to be mysterious by saying they were looking at various venues in Aberdeen and at the same time admitting they were looking to open eight new venues. The eight including the London and new Glasgow ventures....

I would post more on my thoughts about CPL's effet on Aberdeen but I'm all teary eyed looking through my old pics from Ritzy's & RGU's Sloe Club... (and searching for Fox & Men Lie!)

  13. yep, MSN has taken a holiday for a bit after too many folk kept jumping on me with "can I ask you for a favour" while I was working (trying to work, well, supposed to be working...) - never be admin on a site busy with folk you know from drinking & dancin!

I shall most likely cave and reinstall it tomorrow with a few other things on my nice new super fast & shiny HDD.

And I was meant to be in Aberdeen at the end of January but some weather got in the way and I am now arriving off the Weeji bus this Thursday - was hoping to get up for Wed night but alas, clients don't know the meaning of the phrase "reasonable notice"!

I am taking my party clothes for Friday night at Moshulu though :D

(take that as a warning if you like ;))

  14. yep - working for free so digital & it was the 300D at 1600iso just manages for me as far as noise goes but I usually process them in photoshop to immitate bad film habits that have become "my style" -usually over-saturated & nae shadow detail! :S

& as for low light bands with film - fuji 800 rated at 1600, processed normally suited me, I'm obviously a speed freak up at 1600 all the time!

    (I ain't forgotten about your all-dayer btw)

  15. Would this be a good place to post in an attempt to find out if anyone fun & interesting will be at Moshulu this coming Friday? erm, 30th Jan i think it is...?

I'm gonna be visiting from Glasgow and I'm looking for a good time, fae what I remember Moshulu folks can give me that fairly cheap, aye? ;)

Anyways, come speak to me and make it look like I still have mates in Aberdeen - I'll be the one in the coat holding a jacket...

    emm aye
