  1. I often wonder if it annoys local music venues that after they pay for their entertainments licenses and do all the paperwork they still know that many of the bands they put on won't benefit simply because they don't claim (through ignorance or through fear of the overly complicated system).

'course I don't even have any idea how prevalent the scourge of pay-to-play is in Aberdeen, so maybe venues don't care at all? :S

  2. Tangent:

AltNation didn't take over the Classic Grand. One of the three partners who currently run the Classic Grand does also own AltNation, but as a completely separate business venture.

Here, wait a sec, are you the same DJ Captain that did/does Cathouse Sundays (or was it the Unders?) with Am-Y?

*edit* Nevermind, reading user profiles can be useful.

  3. My main surprise was at the "East Terrace" (car park) bit being proper outside without any attempt at even a canopy.

Seems odd to build an indoor shopping thing then throw half a dozen or so shops out the back right in the weather folks are avoiding by shopping inside a centre!

  4. Far as I could tell the new rules mean the same prices have to apply to gigs but I'm thinking venues up & down the country will suffer shortages of staff to stock the cheaper drinks during gigs...

("yeah house vodka+dash is a quid but we only have smirnoff just now")

Maybe that's how they'll deal with jack & coke Friday only? Just not have any available for sale on Saturday & Sunday?! o_O!!

  5. If you go to the line up section of the wizard website the bands are llisted in order of appearance, starting I think at 3 on the Friday and 12 on the Saturday, shouldn't be too hard to work out from there...
Only works if you know how long each band is playing, openers geting same set length & changeover as headliners would be unusual.
  6. Got my tickets today :) Looking forward to it. (Friday more than Saturday though!)

Stagecoach bus from Aberdeen to Mintlaw on the Friday, hourly service back on the Sunday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share taxi fare to/from Mintlaw then let me know.

Or it's only a seven mile walk along the Formartine & Buchan Way. ;)

  7. Having a twitter presence can be really useful, great for announcements building expectations and wonderful as last minute reminder/suggestion of what to do that night.

There's nothing better than sitting at a loose end of an evening and reading a message about a gig to go to in an hour or two - fantastic service for everyone involved on both sides :)

But please, please, PLEASE quit with the "get X-hundred followers" tweets! Don't descend into the useless shambles that is @OxjamAberdeen

If you want more followers then be interesting and/or useful, not spammy. It's frustrating to have few followers but having lots of random strangers is pointless - spam retweets of "get more followers" will stop real interested folks from following & reading.

And to stop this being all negative, some thoughts from my experience: Maybe use a sprinkling of hashtags now & again to aid searchers finding relevant tweets, eg. "tonight at Tunnels, Headline + Support, 4 14+ #aberdeen #gig"

Or competitions have worked well, offering a ticket or two for chosen-at-random people who follow or who retweet a gig ad for you.

Also, perform your own searches on twitter, look for folk mentioning aberdeen gigs, what to do in aberdeen, folk mentioning a night out in aberdeen, that sort of thing - add them and suggest a night at the tunnels!

(sorry if some of this sounds patronising or just far too long-winded to read, just been that sort of day here!)

  8. Heard it, shat it, looked out the window and thought it was a wee passenger jet.

But I now suspect this has something to do with it:

City to salute national armed forces

As the parade passing by the city's Town House a salute will be taken by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen Peter Stephen and representatives of the armed forces. At the same time there will be a military fly over by a RAF GR4 Nimrod and MR2 Tornado.

Shame I found out about it now just when all the free stuff is finishing, I'm a sucker for free days out no matter what rubbish it's in aid of.

    **edit**

    wait! freefall parachute display tomorrow~!

  9. a stream next to which is prime bbq location

The "stream" is the River Don, also don't have barbecues on the grass, bring a slab or stand or something cos at the moment there are almost more burnt bits of ground than there is nice grass to sit on :(

(not aimed at ca_gere) And don't even get me started on the fuckwits who left this mess a couple of weeks ago, have some respect for others using the park, sheesh!
