I used to enjoy the Lifestyle and Juice nights there at the end of the 90's, then a few years later playing gigs with the Stac-set, simons gall etc.
Lifestyle - good shit! You remember The James Taylor Quartet there? What about Gil Scott Heron? That's one of may fave gigs of all time:up:

Although I no longer live in Aberdeen, I find this sad news. I feel for the people that work there that will have lost their jobs so close to Christmas:down:

I rememver seeing them at the Castlegate at New Year a few years back and actually quite enjoying them. Dougie Vipond was a total hero there:up:

Aye, but check the guys face!!

you're right it probably should be for any age. that would mark it out as different from the foyer at least.
The age cut off was the only critisism I had of your ace plan!

Who, in your opinion is a great local musician?
Whoever is in the most popular band.

Either Life Without You by Stevie Ray Vaughan or You've Got a Friend by James Taylor:up:

There is only one song on that CD that is good enough to grace my stereo - Scone?

Exactly! I'd totally forgot about Slowdive - I'll need to give them a wee listen - and Swervedriver:up:

Quite a useful way of learning is to record what you are playing - choose a song you like and just solo over the top of it. Then listen back to it a few times with a critical ear. Some of it is likely to be cringeworthy, but you'll find some licks that you like so file them in your repertoire! I learned pretty quickly that I was overplaying sometimes needed to just lay back a bit:up:
(BTW - I'm talking about bass playing)
-
Shamelessly rip off your influences and hope nobody notices:up:
If you know your scales, then making up a solo should be no problem. The blues and pentatonic scales are probably the best place to start, but before you can break the rules you need to know them - eg why certain notes work over certain chords etc.
Experiment......

Should you raise a bass combo off the floor so it's nearer ear level on stage if you are playing with a full PA?
I can't seem to get a satisfactory answer - some say that decent combos are designed to work with the floor, and others say you should raise it up despite bass being omnidirectional. Confused.....

Fuck genres.
Anyone talking here of "trying out another genre" is narrow minded and posting messages listing their likes is just paying lipservice.
There's only two types of music - good and bad.
If you don't like it after listening to it' date=' then fair enough. If you don't like it becuase it's "nu-country" or "slo-core" and you only listen to Norwegian death Metal (Above The Arctic Circle Scene only) then you're just narrow minded.
Sorry, but if you're the sort of person that sees listening to a music outside your narrow spectrum as being "open minded" then you've got a lot to learn.[/quote']
I agree entirely, but I prefer to think about music I like and music I don't like, rather than good and bad music. I appreciate the fact that although I might hate something, someone else might like it, therefore it can't ne bad!!!
It's also interesting that these threads seem to generate some really obscure bands, which is almost like a contest to see who can claim to like to the most sonically challenged.
Why not try listening to something mainstream?

I was getting might pissed off with my Warwick Streamer LX Jazzman as I coudn't get a low B string to fit through the bridge, and had a pile of low B's sitting at home which were useless to me, so I fired off a complaint to Warwick.
Fully expected not to hear back from them, but go an email from the vice president of Warwick explaining that I should be using tapered strings and they were sending me out some of their new EMP string guage of my choice.
Decent customer service I say:up:

alternatively drink a couple of bottles of grolsch and take the rubber bits from the hinged bottle top.
Works well, but I think the new grolsch bottles have a plastic rather than rubber seal so I'm not too sure if they'll work as well, but a cheap option. What other company throws in two beers with their strap lock?8)

Look at the lines round the Top Gear track that The Stig uses - they are totally different to the lines that the F1 drivers, past or present use, so I reckon that it's unlikely to be an F1 driver. Maybe rally or touring car driver?

JCM2000's are pants. My amp sounds like a good Marshall
Horses for courses!! High gain low power combo that you really can crank and get the most out of the majority of the time:up:

What about a JCM2000 DSL401?

If you are after a bass synth pedal then I'd strongly advise you try before you buy. Most have significant tracking problems. I,ve been through several. If you can, and I am still on the look out for one, try and get hold of an Akai Deep Impact....
