  1. Basically, I want to have a kick, hihat and snare sound that I can play with live along with guitars/keys etc. I don't want it to sound like it's 'trying' to be a drum kit, just something basically that sounds like what old keyboards sound like. I bought a vintage yamaha keyboard but the snare is a high pitched note and it has no headphone output.

So are there any devices that can do just what I want them to, without having pointless banks of samples etc? I'm thinking even iphone apps might work

  2. A sweeeeet friday night line-up to celebrate the release of 'Ou Sont Les Elephants' the debut album by me (JJ Bull). Read a review here: AberZine

    JJ Bull & The Dinosaurs:

JJ Bull is a singing songwriting kind of guy from the town of Scotland in Europe. A former member of noise pop trio 10 Easy Wishes, JJ now often plays with a band called The Dinosaurs and has just released his first ever album, a feat he is very proud of. The album is entitled "Ou Sont Les Elephants" and is available from iTunes, HMV and One Up Records (Aberdeen) for 10 and it is very lovely. JJ Bull has shared the same stage as King Creosote, Frightened Rabbit and Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl Kennedy) amongst many others and likes to play all over the universe.

Like Roald Dahl but more alive.

    Steven Milne:

"...Steven is a naturally beautiful performer, with a talent and voice coming across so effortless and yet so graceful. Stevens vocals carry themselves across the venue on a sparkling trail of mystical musicianship...tonight he puts himself in the spotlight and provides an excellent and charming performance."

JJ Bull, formerly of noise pop trio 10 Easy Wishes, will self release his debut album 'Ou Sont Les Elephants' on CD and digital format on the 20th of March! With musical influences like Frightened Rabbit, The Swell Season, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Friendly Fires and most of Motown, the record has a familiar sound to it so it shouldn't offend your ear-drums and the lyrics are all nice short stories, with a lot of honesty thrown in for good measure.

The album is a result of about a year and a half's work - either writing, saving up to record, recording and self-publishing and I am really proud of myself with the results! While it may seem somewhat big headed to say so, I'm really happy with the record and I would love it if anyone gave some of the tracks a wee listen on Myspace or came to any of the actual release shows. If you fancied buying one that would be amazing, but just listening and maybe telling some pals about it would really help my hard work pay off.

JJ Bull & The Dinosaurs (members from Right Hand Left, 10 Easy Wishes, Deportees and Crashdown) will play in-store at One Up on the 20th of March at 4pm, and at Drummonds on the 2nd of April with special guests.

'Ou Sont Les Elephants' will be available from One Up, HMV Aberdeen, iTunes and Spotify.

Feel free to give me any feedback on any of the songs, I would really appreciate it.

  4. The official release show for Ou Sont Les Elephants, the debut album by JJ Bull (me). Performing with me are The Dinosaurs: a band made up of members from Deportees, 10 Easy Wishes, Right Hand Left and Crashdown. The album took all my time and money over the last year and a half and I'd absolutely love it if you could find it within your hearts to come down and support a local act really trying to do something with music. Tracks are available to listen to on myspace and the album will be available for 10 bucks from One Up and HMV, and 8 squid from iTunes and Spotify.

  5. Hello

I'm hosting the sunday session at J.P's bar and grill from 8-12 every single Sunday (it's on littlejohn street where the union/pivo/fitzpatricks used to be) and I'm looking for musicians to come and play! The idea is that it's Live Lounge style, in that bands play stripped down acoustic sets featuring covers in their own style (Biffy doing Umbrella for example) so it's a chance for you to see artists do something different from normal and it gives them a bit of a challenge!

So far it's been really busy every week and we've had amazing sets from Steven Milne, Thomas Foolery, Mike Black, Kathy Shanks and Andy Shanks. King Creosote also played the very first week :gringo:

It's essentially an open mic but with featured artists - this week Captain Face are the big name so come down and watch if you would like. If you want to play just give me a phone 07815938555 or email joseph.bull.04@aberdeen.ac.uk or you could just come along next sunday and say you want to play and you can!

    CHEEEEERS!

  6. HELLO!

I'm recording my first album at the moment, it sounds ace so far (I think so anyway :gringo: ) and I need some brass instruments. So if you can play and are capable of making up brass melodies I'd love it if you came and played! There's no money involved, you'd be doing it out of a love for playing music - obviously you would win points and if any money was ever made from the record you'd get some royalties. So that's good.

Give me a phone on 07815938555 or email me at joseph.bull.04@aberdeen.ac.uk

My name is Joseph! or JJ.

  7. i've got a really good open mic going just now at J.P's (on littlejohn street) every sunday 8-12, it's been really busy so far and awesome people have played it - Andy Shanks was here last week (King Creosote's hero), Steven Milne and a few others have dropped by as well. Come down if you like!
