  1. At tonights Howling Bells/Joy Formidable gig there was three photographers covering the Joy Formidable. One of them, with the dyed red hair isn't too bad, I've seen him at lots of gigs and he generally keeps fairly low, but the other two....

....I didn't pay my ticket price to look at the back of some annoying bloke. They didn't even attempt to keep low.

And when Ritzy was on the floor playing the feedback by hand on her peddles, all I could see was these blokes and not Ritzy.

Be a bit more considerate to the crowd annoying photographer blokies!

Hey sorry, Pete! I was one of the snappers at the gig and generally try to be discrete and blend in. We were probably more visible as the band said we could shoot the duration of their set due to poor lighting. Normally its a strict first three songs or less and leave the pit.

  2. i just want to get a good catalogue of north-east landscapes together. the only pictures i seem to sell any prints of are landscapes so figure i should invest some more time on it, plus i like being outdoors and particularly being outdoors in the north east.

it's a good point you make though. maybe that will be next years project :)

Dave, should get yourself signed up with a picture library, you never know where your images will end up. There is quite a decent market for postcards and calendars.

  3. I need some advice and I'm hoping one of our resident experts can help me out.

I have been asked to take some photos at a gig tomorrow night.

My problem is that although I'm an alright photographer but all my experience is outdoor landscapes and stuff.

I dont really do people but have been thinking about branching out lately....thinking about it is as far as I have got as I'm a lazy shit.

I dont want to fuck up and just wanted some advice on the settings I should use and just any other advice you think I need.

I'm using a Canon EOS 400D and will have my Canon EOS 300 with me as back up.

Shoot manual, spot meter off their faces. Venues in town are fairly dark so dial in an iso between 800-1600 If you have 2.8 lens you will be sorted. Aim for shutter speeds of ~125th. Avoid killing the shots with straight flash. Good luck.
