  1. nero were great, no?

i especially remember (sort of) the lemon tree fudgenight aftershow parties in old drakes, when nero/dave dixon/ali kelebeck/deadloss/etc would play impromtu drunken acoustic sets to the dregs of aberdeens music scene til 5am on a thursday morning...

    hahaha oh the memories!

in fact bri, ive still got a bagful of all the old drakes photos from back in those days...loads of Nero/Dave/Ali/fudge aftershows etc etc etc...in fact i was just reminiscing about those last night...if only i had a scanner to get some of those pics up here

  2. yeah i liked it too dave...not bad for a 'rough' recording. i quite liked the kinda vintage-y (excuse the making up of a word there) sound it seemed to have! yes, vocals may be a bit shaky but im sure they'll sort themselves out with practice...and just an overall 'tightning up' of everything will come with more practice too...

sounding good tho...im sure a couple of promoters on here will be itching to book you when you good and ready ;)

  3. may have to be the case, except i'm going to have to print it from a jpg in the first place not even a hard copy and i don't have photoshop and the spelling is wrong! gonna flyer peoples cars at uni and that as well.

huw, if this is any use, or even just for future reference...send your jpeg file to the peeps at Iceberg Arts www.iceberg_arts.co.uk on Summer Street and they will do your posters pronto (usually same day in my experience) and cheap as chips :) they are a registered charity therefore you escape VAT on printing

this is where i usually get my stuff done :)

    they only open mon-thurs

  4. :O

Yeah thanks, because I just love being patronised.

Not with Cap Sant, but I have toured a couple of times. It happens and it's completely understandable for people to leave and not watch us if they haven't heard of us. Often a promoter will put on a popular local support as the headliner, to make sure folks are around for the unknown touring act. It makes alot of sense to do this if the band on tour are in town for the first time, or just haven't made a name for themselves as of yet.

Having put on shows in Leeds, it still happens. People turn up, take what they want, and then leave, which they are completely entitled to do as paying customers. The only way to battle this is to consider the running order to counteract people leaving early, but then you have the issue of coming late instead.

It happens, and it's going to happen and it's never ever ever going to stop happening. Trying to localise the problem to this gig, or even to the whole scene of the city itself is ridiculous because it happens everywhere!

ok sorry for sounding patronising, i dont know anything about you, that you'd toured in other bands, put gigs on etc etc..sorry, i apologise! :O

but yeah you're right,..it does happen everywhere....and yeah the trick is down to the promoter usually, to cunningly work out a running order to maximise a crowd for the visiting bands

  5. I totally agree with you, it is demoralising, the fact that all those people were there, and when you guys *the touring band* go on, no one sticks around. But I do also agree with Phil, playing for yourself is so important, they way I look at it is, lets say by the time I go on and there are 5 people there, thats 5 people who came to see my band (possibly) and paid to get in. They deserve to have a great show put on for them. Thats also maybe 5 people who have never seen the band before and if you blow them away, next time you come back, maybe they'll bring a few friends.

    yeah i see what you're saying :)

  6. We all know you can have a cracking gig in front of 3 or 4 people that are actually enjoying it and a gig we wished we'd never played in front of 300-400 people who couldn't give a shit whether you were reciting baking suggestions over trad-jazz.

yep true, i totally agree! :)

  7. Nah, it doesn't matter. Who cares how many people you're playing to. Granted, it is annoying but you can't go out with the expectation that everyone is going to stay and have their undivided attention on you. Nobody should be that precious. Play for yourself, that's what's important. I bet the touring guys weren't greeting like a big bunch of Mary's.

Folks should man the fuck up. Part of the problem with certain aspects of the scene here are that the bands have unrealistic expectations of crowds and their own self-importance. QUOTE]

dont tell me that touring bands *dont care* that 1 person stayed to watch them, when the venue had previously been rammed?! must feel a wee bit demoralising no?!

*and im not even talking about this Portals gig anymore, this is just in general* :p

  8. ....

I never quite understood why anyone should feel obligated to stay right until the end, out of politeness and gratitude. You turn up to the show and you take what you want from it, be that playing your set or watching the band or bands you want to see

i bet when you guys tour, you'll *no doubt* find yourself in the situation where everyone fucks off before you play, its very fucking annoying, and when you get sick of that happening, then maybe you'll appreicate whats really being talked about in this thread hehe :p:popcorn::love:

  9. good music all round

cap sante were really cool...yeah apart from the vocals issue as lindsay mentioned, couldnt someone have just turned the mics up?! and id say it was good you were on that bill...

Chickenhawk were immense...shame hardly anyone stayed to see them...*usual story*

Secta Rouge were intense...totally ace...again there was even less people there by the time they played

    did someone mention 'scene'? hmm..

just one thing...if anyone puts on a gig in there again, please dim the lights a bit and make sure you have some sort of music for inbetween the bands hehe! :p:up:

    good effort though dave

my ears are totally ringing by the way

  10. incidentally!

if anyone fancies staying on the door most of the night in exchange for a couple of pints and free entry/whatever let me know! i really would appreciate it.

the trick to this is to employ someone who has absolutely no interest in this gig or type of music but who has nothing else better to do and will happily accept a couple of pints whilst doing pretty much nothing on the door :) oh and they have to be trustworthy with money! ;)
