  2. What a splendid day, really cool & lots of fun

The castle gate event was brilliant I arrived late due to having to man the shop so I missed

The Staccato Set (bummer) but just arrived in time for the end of

Kathryn Sawers set who was wonderful and truly dark and wonderful

And it was so cool to hear Kasule thru a massive sound system in a big space epic

But I had to split down to Dr Drakes and help set things up for the evenings festivities

The evening was wonderful I had a great time

Rory McIntyre was great his first solo gig he did really well and played an excellent Smiths cover

A big thanks to Chris Murty

and a really big thanks to Amy, Euan and Dave whos set was blinding totally rocking I havent seen that many people dancing to a band for a while

And it was Amys first Dr Drakes gig long overdue

    Thank you !

  3. That was a totally outstanding night with a truly blistering set from the Man

Truly one of thee most furiously angry men on the planet

who has one of the most unique rock shows on the road

    Really entertaining!

Also a great set from Bill Ely & the Catnips

whose slightly unnerving set was just the catalyst needed to create the right vibe for the MAN

I had a brief chat with Matt just before he left he told me that

Dr Drakes is his favourite venue outside the US and he stressed he wasnt bull shiting me

He also told me he will be back in March 2005 so if you missed him this time you will get another chance

And dont worry Ill be around to remind you all closer to the time

  4. Stuff to do on Saturday 30th October

We are proud to announce that Dr Drakes will be the venue of the official after show party of the live event Shift which is taking place in the castle gate that after noon between 4pm-9pm featuring live performances from

    Staccato Set,

    the Aberdeen- & Edinburgh-based twisted lords of lounge blues;

    Kathryn Sawers,

    a local artist whose sublime and breathless vocals are accompanied at times by hauntingly delicate and brutal piano;

    Ursula Minor,

    from Kilmarnock, with electronica, guitars, big beats and spine chilling vocals;

    Kasule,

from Coatbridge providing beautifully crafted songs with cinematic soundscape.

This event is Free and will take place in a marquee complete with bar (which is not free)

The evenings entertainment care of the audio dropout boys will kick off @ 9:30 @ Dr Drakes with

    The line up,

    Rory McIntyre,

From Glasgow a young singer songwriter who will charm you with his melancholy style

    Chris Murty,

Local solo artist who has his own unique style and is a refreshing change of pace

    Amy Sawers,

Amy blends an outstanding voice with songs brimming with hooky melodies.

She draws from the influences you would expect, P.J. Harvey & Patti Smith

but also sights heavier bands such as Slayer and the stoner rock of Black Sabbath

as a driving force behind her sound. Ably backed by her outstanding rhythm section

she always delivers an entertaining show!

    Thank you

  7. I dont know about anyone else' date=' but prosound "fixed" my guitar input, and did a horribly shoddy job of it that i discovered when i eventually re-wired it myself after it broke after a month![/quote']

In his defence if you had a problem with the repair carried out on your instrument you should have taken it back to Neil and gave him the opportunity to put it rite.

Not come on to internet forums and call him shoddy!

also jack sockets are very durable parts and often need repaired / replaced and if it work for a month before it went wrong and when it did go it was just a wire inside needed re-connected

that can just happen with connections inside guitars!

iv experienced usa Gibson les Paul s come from the states after being hand wired in the Gibson factory get shipped over here and need little bits of work done on them!

Iv been playing bass for 10 years and I have heaps of basses and Neil looks after all of them and I wouldnt let anyone else touch my stuff

there are also loads of guys all over Scotland and abroad

who only let Neil do there repairs

    are they wrong?

concidering the huge volume of work undertaken by neil and the fact the amount of complaints are vertuly non existent i think that goes to show neil is far from Shoddy!

    thank you

  8. to be honest there isnt actually that many emo bands up here' date=' its very anti emo up here becuase it is the trend at the moment, i dont mind emo,

here is my official outlook on aberdeen

there have been some great bands/acts in the last year, gloria flaw, sidca, elctric tibet, deadloss mf superstar, small enclosed area, kathryn sawers, eric euan, politik, masamune, ian simpson, t13, jo maccaferty, the staccato set, etc etc

lots of rubbish indie bands(Lady mercedes, star, diablo, soul doubt etc), some dire metal acts (REAP),

best to avoid them like the plague

    venue wise

drakes is theee greatest bar in the land, lovely staff, open minded, great tunes/decor, good bands, a fully operational bar (with people to serve too!).

i agree that kef has rubbish sound (think it is cos it is usually a 1/4 full), its mainly touring acts and local support. some good acts play there though.

drummonds is full of neds at the weekend, nice place though bar the non air conditioning, could do with filtering out the shite indie bands, loud bands sound great in there, its also complete with a dry and witty(hmm) sound engineer

moorings is great for drinking, ive yet to be won over by a gig in there though,

the bassment does great food, big portions and home made!!decent music, great attitude from the management-they seem like top guys and ross is getting some good acts in, i have had some good nights in moshulu, some bad too though as with anywhere. gigs seem to have a strange sound when im there though, bit muddy!

the wonderful exodus, great club, no twats (although has been more recently), decent bouncers!!!!!! cheap beer good songs, the dj on saturday night will play practically anything (he played laeto for us once!), lovely bar staff too.

def go along to the fudge gigs, they are usually great fun. brian and craig fudge get drunk and waffle on stage usually funny and at the expense of somebody,

loads of other promoters too, good for nothing, audio dropouts, interesting music, etc etc

some great pubs, tilted wig, the grill, prince of wales, blackfriars, etc etc

abdn is decent like, its easy to meet people too, quite friendly in the right places.

    stay in skool[/quote']

    Hay Maxi!

    NAIL ON HEAD!

    Well said mate

  9. Yip!

I had a splendid time tonight

    I really enjoyed playing!

And I really dug the rock that T13 were laying down

and Im looking forward to sharing a bill with them again soon!

Thanks to the hardcore that resisted the drunken pull of exodus and hung around and caught are set

    thanx to T13 &

the man @ the knobs 'Ian' who once again cranked it up to 11 for us!

Im sure your ears have been suitably pummelled

    Rock shows rule!!!

    C u all later

  10. It all started when Matt McGuire decided to leave his hometown of Detroit and his band Forehead Stew and headed to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains

    and a life of snowboarding,

But when he moved he soon really missed making music.

And after a few failed attempts at forming a band with the locals in Boulder Colorado,

Matt returned to his native Detroit.

Still unable to source the right musicians for his project Matt hatched the plan of

    Anger & beer-fuelled-one-man-punk-rock

by striping his music to basics,

i .e. bone crunching fuzz bass riffs, thumping kick drum and angst laden lyrics

delivered in a in-your-face almost evangelical style

MAN INC was born and he was thirsty for beer!!!!!

his early live performances were at local open-mic nights

which must of shocked the performers of the usual acoustic strummy strummy

fodder that you tend to find at these gatherings

but Im sure he was welcomed by the more adventures who dared to listen

    .

Armed with his bass, a large amplifier, and an even larger kick drum,

MAN INC's "songs of protest" have now enthralled audiences all over

    America and Europe,

MAN INCs shows are a sight to behold.

totally brutal and upfront his songs are brimming with self-effacing humour.

"You've got to have that, otherwise you're just an asshole," he says.

    MAN INC

    targets everything and everyone from

    lazy Hippies ("Hippie Down!"),

    Christianity ("Blue Law Sunday"),

mindless mob mentality ("Fuck the Team!"),

to genuine happiness ("I'm so Happy [i'm Singing in a Major Key]").

MAN INC is for real; his words and music will convince any non-believers of this.

Do yourself a favour check out MAN INC

His music will take your head clean-off

    and you will love it!!!

    SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING!

  11. It was my first time seeing Eric Euan last night and I was most impressed.

    Thank you man!

I do get the feeling we sounded like a bag of Spanners just a wee bit RAW!!!!!

but were playing @ drummonds on friday 1st of october with TURNING 13 & a glasgow band called KALAMAZOO

We always sound good in drummonds SORRY did i say 'good' i ment LOUD!!!

(but the sound is always good in drummonds 'Ian' looking forward to it)

  12. I really dont get involved in threads like this but

if your going start talking about overrated

you can list faddy bands like Travis and Kean the fucking Thrills and all that vacuous shite thats everywhere right now

but there is bands & artists who changed the world of music forever and even thou they dont appeal to your own personal taste you have to respect the people who paved the way for the artists you do like

I dont think you should try and pin overrated on the likes of

Jimi Hendrix (I dare anyone whose ever tried to play guitar to clame hes over rated)

Black Sabbath (if you listen to stoner rock or metal you owe these brumies a great deal)

Nirvana (I remember a world before them I bought there records @ the time and I was devastated when Cobain killed himself and they totally fucking rock and I find it weird that its still so cool to hate them)

    Sorry !
