IMP are delighted to announce a very special evening and line-up to celebrate INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY on WEDNEDAY 8TH MARCH 2017. The evening will consist of FOUR live music artists and some top quality spoken word. IMP thank Aberdeen City Council for their support to enable this event to happen. Wed 8th March 2017 The Tunnels 1 Aberdeen Doors 7pm to late FB Event here:- https://www.facebook.com/events/1798136480463411/ Advance tickets priced £12.00 are available from the direct event https://www.wegottickets.com/event/383569 Concessions for Students, Unemployed & Aberdeen Accord Card holders priced £6.00 from the direct event https://www.wegottickets.com/event/383570 Please bring your your concession card for checking on entry. https://www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions/ https://twitter.com/IMP_Aberdeen Listing in alphabetical order Bdy_PRTS Originally a duo of Jenny Reeves of Strike the Colours and Jill O'Sullivan of Sparrow & the Workshop, they have now added drummer and electronics programmer Jonny Scott, who has played with a wide range of Scottish acts including Emma Pollock, Olympic Swimmers and The Unwinding Hours, and manager/guitarist Scott Paterson (formerly of Sons & Daughters) to their LIVE set-up. The results, as you can tell, are remarkable... As you would expect with such a heritage of world-class groups behind them. But Bdy_Prts are a very different, and rather more shiny, beast! Taking synths, electronica, 90's R'n'B, indie and even some folk touches, their sound miraculously transports you to future-pop dimension where hooks, melodies, beats and bleeps collide; and synchronized dance-moves, day-glo outfits are glittery ponchos are definitely the order of the day - they even dressed me in a 'space taco' for our customary group shot. I wasn't complaining though! Some of our on-air chat was a fairly surreal too...One of the stars of the recent Running UP That Hill the songs of Kate Bush show at True North Festival, their band show here will be an absolute party treat. http://www.bdyprts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/bdyprtsband/ https://twitter.com/bdy_prts KATHRYN JOSEPH (SOLO) Prior to her debut release, Kathryn Joseph was regarded one of Scotland's best-kept secrets; prodigiously talented and criminally underrated her voice possesses the other-worldly quality comparable to Ms Newsom and Björk; but she is by no means of an ilk. Better compared with Anhoni; she is an artist in every way; unique and soulful, and at the core a beautiful unnerving truth. The Album was captured predominantly live in just a week by Scottish music industry veteran Marcus Mackay at the diving bell lounge (Frightened Rabbit, Snow Patrol, Trembling Bells, Alasdair Roberts, Sparrow and the Workshop). Kathryn's on record, and sometime-live collaboration with Marcus on percussion and synth and Kathryn on her signature upright ships piano offers an unmissable, heart heavy and gut wrenching but understated performance. Those lucky enough to catch her at one of her rare performances are sure to be captivated, moved and perhaps a little disturbed. "bruised yet beautiful" Nicola Meighan, THE HERALD "he more you Listen, the better it gets. One of my favourites of this year, for sure Very, very special indeed" LAUREN LAVERNE BBC 6Music "Genuine uniqueness" THE METRO "Ten tracks of emotionally raw, meticulously crafted songs rep lete with naturalistic, gothic and intensely personal imagery" Bill Cummings, GODISINTHETVZINE "10 tracks make for one of the most emotionally raw records written by a Scottish songwriter" Jonathon Rimmer, THE NATIONAL Katie Ailes (Loud Poet) Katie Ailes is a poet and PhD candidate currently based in Edinburgh. Her research focuses on the performance of authentic selfhood in contemporary U.K. spoken word poetry. Katie placed second in the 2015 Scottish National Poetry Slam and has performed across the U.K., including at the StAnza and Wickerman festivals, Rally & Broad, and St. Mungo’s Mirrorball. She organises, composes, and performs with the spoken word collective Loud Poets, including touring with them to the Brighton, Prague, and Edinburgh festivals. She released her first collection, Homing, in 2015, and was published in the House of Three anthology series in 2016. https://kathrynailes.wordpress.com/ https://www.facebook.com/kathrynailespoet/ https://twitter.com/KathrynAiles Sacred Paws After the successful sell out of their debut EP to Rock Action last year, the label announce the release of Sacred Paws’ full album early 2017. This double A side single features the first two tracks to be taken from that album. The band’s infectious high energy rhythms have gained fans such as Marc Riley on BBC6 Music. Sacred Paws are almost immediately infectious, a whirr of energy which blends high-life rhythms to skittish guitar lines, dervish drumming and sighing, over-lapping vocals. The Glasgow two piece - Rachel Aggs (also of Trash Kit and Shopping) on guitar, Eilidh Rodgers on drums – formed while members of much loved noise pop group Golden Grrrls. Quickly finding their own, quite distinct, identity, Sacred Paws have become cult fixtures in Glasgow. There's a charming, not-quite-finished feel to their music which only seems to enhance its personality, while the post-punk, poly-rhythmic approach to percussion leads the duo into effortlessly funky realms. New EP 'Six Songs' was out on March 16th via Rock Action, and it's a superb introduction. Each track is part-song/part-chant, with the delicately arranged, multi-layered vocals forming a nest of love, loss and intrigue.Recalling The Raincoats, The Slits' oft-overlooked second album or even the Dunedin set on Flying Nun, Sacred Paws have hit upon something very special indeed. This should appeal to anybody who likes their songs short and sweet with an uplifting feel of summery punk pop. https://www.facebook.com/sacredpawsband/ https://twitter.com/sacredpawsltd https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/new-music/discovery/sacred-paws-everyday The Lovely Eggs Following the release of their critically acclaimed album This is Our Nowhere last year and their sold-out tour in April, champions of the UK underground scene The Lovely Eggs hit the road again this Autumn for another round of sensational punk rock gigging. This time they alight in Newcastle, Halifax, Hull, Northampton, Oxford, London, Southampton, Bristol, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester's Gorilla, to play their biggest headline gig to date. This Is Our Nowhere garnered an 8/10 review in NME and much support from BBC 6 Music, including two sessions for Marc Riley in 2015 alone, who made their most recent single 'Goofin Around (in Lancashire)' one of his top tracks for 2015. The 7" was released on limited edition and mega-collectible “fried-egg vinyl” on their own label Egg Records. The Lovely Eggs continue to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting, innovative and genuine bands of the Great British Underground scene and have been selling out venues across the country without the help of management, booking agent or record label support. With songs firmly set in the hum drum of everyday life, The Lovely Eggs turn normality on its head, squeezing it through their peculiar surreal mincing machine and blending it with fuzzed out guitar and crashing drums. For Holly and David being in a band is a way of life. And they approach it in a unique way laughing in the face of life's absurdities. They are a rallying point for anyone that sees life for what it is. A mess. A wonderful, car crash of experiences, greeting each new chance with a cheeky grin, a sneer and a big fuck you to the pricks. "One of the country's most beloved underground bands. 8/10"- NME “You won't hear another band like this anywhere between now and the the end of the millenium. The Lovely Eggs are just brilliant!”- Huw Stephens, Radio One http://www.thelovelyeggs.co.uk/ https://www.facebook.com/thelovelyeggs
  2. IMP are delighted to announce a splendid evening of Psych/Jams & Drones with 10000 RUSSOS. Its been a while since that magical evening with Moon Duo, so this should make up some lost ground and we are sure you will enjoy this visceral live experience.... 10000 RUSSOS Seas, Starry The Tunnels Wed 24th May 2017 Doors 7.45pm FB Event here https://www.facebook.com/events/1616031108423785/ Advance Tickets priced £8+ BF available here https://www.wegottickets.com/event/387758 https://www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions/... https://twitter.com/IMP_Aberdeen https://www.facebook.com/tunnelsaberdeen/?fref=ts 10 000 RUSSOS (Fuzz Club Records) João Pimenta (drums/vocals), Pedro Pestana (guitar) and André Couto (bass), emerged from what they call “a dark, decadent city of a peripheral country in a peripheral continent”: Porto, Portugal. They formed in 2012 and soon released a four track EP, triggering some national buzz and, as many great guitar bands these days, they stumbled upon the international Psych community. They eventually shared stages with the likes of A Place To Bury Strangers and Wooden Shjips and getting signed to Fuzz Club to release their first full length record. In opposition to most of their peers, 10,000 Russos have concentrated on creating soundscapes of the subconscious. The working environment has been fundamental to the flow of their long, obscure urban jams. Recalling the savage and repetitive progressions of Neu! and the longest and grimmest drones of Suicide, the marching heart-beat in the background gives the music the stomp of a solemn drumming ritual across the wastelands of the mind. "10,000 Russos were much more worthy of our attention and indeed that of the many who packed District to the point where getting in and out proved a near insurmountable challenge. Yet the rowdy mob who assembled were treated to a hypnotically loud krautrock-driven set. Drawing influence from Mark E. Smith‘s repetitive vocal style, the band duly delivered in front of their rabid audience, who responded with by cutting some irrepressibly dodgy shapes. They converted everyone in the place, who got right down to their pounding sledgehammer rhythms and slabs of guitar noise". Known as an ambient/kraut/psych/shoegaze band who draw inspiration from the effects-laden guitar sound of My Bloody Valentine, the minimalism of Labradford and the driving beats of Errors. Debut album "Tyto Alba" was released in July 2014. Live, Seas, Starry have shared bills with the likes of Joan of Arc, Hot Club de Paris, Matricarians, Esperi, Dylan Carlson, Adam Stafford, Happy Meals The Cosmic Dead and Conquering Animal Sound. Orleans moved to Warsaw in 2000 and began working on solo material, as well as collaborating with Marcus Schmickler and continuing to work with Hassle Hound. The band signed with Staubgold, which released Limelight Cordial in 2006, but the group dissolved in 2008, after which Staubgold posthumously released their second album, Born in a Night, in 2010. In 2004, Orleans moved to New York, where she collaborated with various noise artists. She began releasing her solo material in 2008. Her sample-driven songs, often featuring Casio keyboards and reverb-caked vocals, recalled ghostly memories of ’50s and ’60s pop, drawing from influences ranging from Broadcast to Ethiopiques compilations to Bernard Herrmann film scores. Orleans’ first vinyl release, 2009’s Lost LP on French label La Station Radar, received acclaim from several indie music publications and independent record stores around the world. Since then Orleans has been consistently praised for her consecutive releases. In October 2013, her double album Tumult In Clouds received The Dead Albatross Music Prize voted for by the finest record shops, radio presenters, listeners, writers and record collectors from across UK and Ireland. Her tracks has been played frequently on major and independent radio stations in UK, Europe, America and Japan. Orleans moved back to Glasgow by the end of 2011. She since toured UK and Europe, worked on several albums, soundtracks for independent films, and completed a remix of new age pioneer Laraaji for Warp. By the end of 2014, Orleans completed full-length LP Upper Hell with trip-hop producer Howie B, who released the album on his HB Recordings label in 2015. 2016 will see a new long play coming out. At the end of this month Ela who is renowned for her ethereal beauty of her voice and hypnotic, collage-like compositions, will perform a specially-commissioned live score to the most charming and romantic of silent melodramas Lucky Star at the Glasgow Film Festival. https://www.facebook.com/ElaOrleans/ http://elaorleans.com/ Apostille (Night School Records) The music of Apostille is best described by this Boomkat review of his last release of 2015 "Glasgow's ever-brilliant Night School return with a new album from label head honcho Michael Kasparis under the Apostille alias. To date he's nurtured this sound with split releases alongside Meddicine and Dnbl for C.O.A.T. and Clan Destine in parallel to actions with The Lowest Form and Please, but all energies are now focused on 'Powerless' with the intention to "bridge the gap between audience and performer, to connect through the fog of power structures and post-modernism; to ferment a direct pop music unconcerned with control." What that means in reality is a cranky clutch of lo-fi, synthy songs drawing on classic DM and Suicide and peppered with the kind of sidelong diversions we'd hope for from the man who has released records by everyone from Julia Holter and Yong Yong to Rose McDowell. (lots of others plus Happy Meals) Placing swarthy machine rockers such as 'Control' next to the keening drone harmonics of 'Worry', and the hard-bitten funk of the 'The Collector' next to blunted dirge-pop 'Panic At The Train Station', it's somehow a very coherent yet willfully wayward album bound to resonate with lovers of vulnerable underground pop music" The connection between performer & audience were massively evident at his brilliant support show of Blanck Mass at The Lemon Tree late 2015 https://www.facebook.com/Apostille-487356714618160/timeline https://soundcloud.com/apostille LIBERATION (AUS) Liberation is the alias of one David West, principal songwriter in Rat Columns, Rank/Xerox and Lace Curtain and former member of Total Control. A seasoned travelling wilbury, West’s discography crosses Blackest Ever Black, DFA, Software and soon Night School, though he is always difficult to set in stone. Liberation is a deconstruction of synth pop, R+B, 80s House music and an emotional fragility that lures the listener into West’s singular world of missed connections, night-time lovers staring across foggy bays, the untethered heart adrift in the modern world.

  17. Its highly possible this will be the only IMP event of the second half of 2015, so please bring along as many as you can Mr Birdman. Lots of promoters in Aberdeen are stopping as its real difficult to maintain losses due to poor turn outs ....however we shall continue in 2016 with fingers crossed, some great alternative musical options. There certainly won't be many events tho'
