Schmooze with people in the know. Or keep an eye on here or a bands myspace/facebook/bebo cause they sometimes put a post up for folk wanting guestlist.

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonK770i/R8BC Browser/NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
Eagle May in the Hardgate does it for me, or failing that, the Ascot on Holburn Street. If i'm lazy or drunk i go to the Shanghai since it's about 100 metres from my flat. My flatmate actually got his delivered once from Wok Wok, which is also about 100 metres from our flat.
I had a takeaway from Shanghai once and it was really good but I can't be bothered to go and get a menu from them and order again...and yeah, it's about a 2 minute walk from my flat :S Takeaways make me lazy, I know you can collect them but the whole point is not having to move!

Movie marathon bank holiday weekend!
My boyfriend and I watched heaps:
The Big Labowski - Awesome...clearly
Dan In Real Life - very gentle comedy but no bad
The Happiness of the Katakuri's - fucking crazy and amazing until about half way through were it stops being funny and just gets confusing
Kung Fu Hustle - Got distracted halfway through but what I remember was good
Reservoir Dogs - classic...clearly awesome as well but still it's never quite as good as I think it's going to be.
Secretary - in lieu of going to Obedience School
I went to see In The Loop last week as and loved it.
This weeks viewing includes Venture Brothers or something, from Adult Swim. Anyone seen it?

Ace, to my utter shame I was reading perezhilton.com and he recommended Obsessions and I've had it stuck in my head ever since.

Ye gads! I am the only one seeing a slight similarity to Courtney Love in the bottom photo? She's not quite as off the rails looking as Courtney Love, but there's definately something there.
-
Hurrah! I love King Creosote, I've amazing memories with his music playing in the background.

Best steak I've had was while I was working in Musa, it's pretty pricey but you get a beautiful bit of fillet steak cooked perfectly. The sauce was a little over powering but you can easily have it on the side or not at all. Sweet potato wedges as well. Om nom nom nom.
Damn it, now I want steak.

DollyDagger has some pretty cool stuff in it. And have a search for Joe Browns too because they sometimes do amazing sales and are very good at doing quirky summery clothes.
I just died a little using the word 'quirky'. Gah.

It's awesome, I've been messing about with it today and finding all those songs that I know the artist but not the name. So much easier than downloading stuff only to find you've got the wrong song

You should look into booking Creepshow too. Similar stuff, very psychobilly: quiffs, zombies, double basses...the lot

That's true. A massive flock of them.
I think the proper collective noun for Emos and Goths is a 'mood'. A mood of Emos.

Best things I read recently:
Art Spiegelman - Maus
&
Will Eisner: A life Force
Both comics. Any other recommendations along these lines much appreciated.
I LOVE Maus. I bought it for an ex years ago. When he moved out he left pretty much everything apart from that damned book and I keep forgetting to get my own copy.
I'm reading The Incredible Adam Spark by Alan Bissett (creative writing tutor at Glasgow Uni). Super fast paced and half heart breaking, half hilarious. It's written from the perspective of a 18 year old boy with learning difficulties who believes he got superpowers after an accident. It's pretty much a stream of conciousness in weegie - pure dead brilliant like Don't want it to end, wish I'd written it.

But Nicky Casino has won a few years in a row, hasn't he?
Totally agree though, I think next year there might have to be a Lifetime Achievement or Greatest Contribution to the Aberdeen Music Scene award for you guys. It'll be like This Is Your Life...

I dunno...I think dalek beats your bog standard suit anyday

But I have to look all the way through them and I'm so very very lazy
Who got king and queen of fudge/best dressed/most shaggable?

Let's have a list of winners then. Who cried tears of joy? Who declared the voting a fix? Who got drunker than hell and got lifted by the police later in the night?

Have you actually worked in HMV?
I had an alright time there, i worked upstairs for most of it, we listened to soundtracks in the DVD department and i could stick on jazz and folk albums when i was in the specialties department. I got on really well with the staff and still speak to a quite a few of them now. It was generally quite busy, so the time went by pretty fast as well.
Admittedly i have had better jobs, but i don't think it's fair to give such a damning review.
I think your message kind of sums up a lot of the reasons why Aberdeen Music is a bit lame sometimes. You are trying to appear to know of some underground, subversive counter culture scene but you are offering up no practical advice at all.
You have no substance behind your aggressive tone and will probably live out your life frustrated, confused and having never really taken part in anything *cool* or *interesting*
Oh and by the way YOUR chat is way more *cliched* than anybody i ever met working in HMV.
Enjoy looking for that perfect job that ticks all of the boxes for your unrealistic ideals.
Ha, I just found this and because I'm hopelessly argumentative I'm going to drag it up from the past. Yes, I did work there over Christmas last year and I hated it for all the reasons I stated. I found the permanent staff pretty unwelcoming to the seasonal workers like myself, the customers rude, the work boring and the music rubbish.
How is my chat cliched by the way? Have we met or are you judging me by one post I made about a job I didn't enjoy?
My point was if you want to get a feel for the world of music or publishing, a chain store is probably not the place to do it. If that's the industry you want to be involved in seriously then smaller independant companies are more likely to offer an interesting work environment. If you're only after a part time job with some discount then by all means do it.

I'm sure most folk would agree that there's no place for maturity and dignity in the Fudge Awards. Rather bemused by Mel's nomination though, I can think of a dozen other girls more worthy of the title.

Went to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on Monday, having planned on seeing Frost/Nixon and missed it by a few days. It was the biggest waste of time I've seen in a long time. Three hours of my life I'm never getting back and now I have disturbing images of a child who looks like a 70 year old screwing a hooker. Bad. Very very bad.

Chris, do you know Declan? Irish chappy, used to work in the basement of Asylum and frequent the Bassment a lot? He did the other poster for this, Tank Girl squaring up to Nessie. He was there last year and said it was fucking great but a hideously expensive weekend.

The Eagle May (Hardgate/Bloomfield Rd) is my favourite (not so cheap, but good quality).
It is cheap if you have a snapfax...15% off

After murdering my hair for years with bleach and purple hair dye, I went to Fifi's Hairrazor on Union Terrace and she's lovely, doesn't give you any shit about the state of your hair or anything. About 25 for a restyle so for a bloke I reckon she'd be cheaper. The boyfriend goes to Purdey's on The Green occasionally but he knows the staff so gets it for cheaps.
If you're really broke you could try phoning the college. They have a salon run by students in the health and beauty courses and they're all supervised by qualified staff. It's dirt cheap.

Don't even bother. HMV is a shit place to work. The people are cliche, the work is boring, the music is shit.
If you're interested in music and books...like 99.9% of the population then maybe try and find work in a independant publishers,a music venue or recording studio. *Those* are cool and inteteresting places to work.
Getting a Rabbit (No not a Vibrator)

Yeah, my cousins rabbit was mauled by a fox or something. Body was in the hutch and they never found the head
The thing to consider is that rabbits are better living in pairs or with guinea pigs so you may end up with double the responsibility. How old is your kid? Maybe something smaller and more affectionate would be better because I don't think that rabbits are the cuddliest of creatures.
