  1. To have your webcam image linked to in the Webcams section of the web site then you first have to be a registered member of the web site and must already have your webcam running.

Unfortunately, due to bandwidth restrictions I cannot host webcam images for people on this web server at this time. But I'm sure a few of our members will be able to suggest hosting providers you can use for this purpose as well as maybe even offer to host your webcam images for you on their own web servers.

If you need to find software to capture and upload your webcam images then I recommend trying ConquerCam or CoffeeCup WebCam.

To get your webcam image linked to then simply post a reply to this thread with the full URL to your webcam image or alternatively contact me via PM or e-mail. Please ensure your webcam images do not exceed the standard 352x288 image size.

Webcam images that exceed the image size above, display offensive content or are not updated regularly risk being removed from the web site without prior notice.

  2. Due to this web site's increasingly high server resource demands my web hosting provider has decided to move the entire web site to a new, more powerful web server as a matter of urgency. This is a very kind gesture from them as they could at this point simply just switch the web site off for being too resource hungry.

The move is due to begin at 11pm tonight and should take no more than an hour to complete. The web site will be completely inaccessible during this time. There may be technical problems with the web site that crop up due to the move but these will hopefully be resolved as soon after the move as possible.

Please note that this move does not now mean that this web site does not need to move to a dedicated web server. Even after it is moved it is still on a shared web server and still living on borrowed time. So I still need your support and money so we can move to the dedicated web server!

For those of you that are a bit geeky like me and like to know what the technical changes are then the web site will be moving from a web server with this hardware spec:

Intel Pentium-III 850Mhz Processor, Dual 74GB Quantum Atlas 10KIII SCSI Hard Drives, 1GB ECC SDRAM

To a server with this spec:

XEON 2.4GHz Dual Multi-Threaded Processor, Dual 74GB Quantum Atlas 10KIII SCSI Hard Drives, 1GB PC2100 ECC DDR Memory

  3. Before you can add your event to the calendar please make sure it meets the following criteria:

    - The event must take place in Aberdeen City or the surrounding Aberdeenshire area.

    - The event must be related to the local music scene in some way. Examples of events that are suitable for the calendar are local gigs, festivals, musician workshops and radio/television/online broadcasts related to the local music scene.

You must also have to hand the following information about your event if at all possible:

    - The name of the event if applicable.
    - Where the event is to take place.
    - The full line-up of the event if applicable.
    - The cost of entry to the event if applicable.
    - The time the event is due to start.
    - Any other important event information. (e.g. If it is a gig then is it open to under-18's?)

If your event meets the criteria above then simply click here to add your event to the Events calendar.

If details of your event change then please feel free to edit your event in the calendar and if your event is unfortunately cancelled then please remember to delete your event from the public calendar. This will also automatically delete the associated thread for the event in the forum.

Please be aware that all events added or edited in the public calendar are manually moderated to ensure no-one abuses the calendar. Therefore, depending on staff availability, it may take a couple of days before your event appears in the calendar from when you first submit it. Because of this we highly recommend you add your event to the public calendar in as far in advance as possible.

Note: As soon as your event is added to the calendar then a thread for that event will automatically appear in this forum!

Daz, you are simply spamming this forum. There is no need to post a seperate thread for each track listing. Spamming is against the forum rules you agreed to when registering on these forums and so if you continue to spam this forum then you will be banned.

I'm now going to delete the track listings you have posted except for the very latest ones.

  5. This is definitely still in the medium to long term plan. It would have happened a lot quicker if I didn't have to raise money to move this web site to a dedicated server. Three things need to happen before this merch will be available though.

    1. Get a new logo for the web site for all branding (now done)

    2. Move to a dedicated web server

    3. Open the online store section of the web site

As you can see steps 2 and 3 have yet to be completed. But hopefully they will sooner or later and then you will all be able to get your hands on aberdeen-music.com merch among other things.

  6. The much sooner than expected move to aberdeen-music.com v3.0 is now in full swing. As you can see the forums have now all moved over to the vBulletin forum software and hopefully you will all take to it just as a duck in water. There should only be a few minor differences between these forums and the old ones as far as features go. But the biggest change is of course the look and feel of the web site - I hope you all think it now looks better than before!

The style for the web site is not 100% complete and no doubt there will need to be a fair few tweaks made to it yet to resolve any problems you may find. The logo at the top of the page is only a temporary logo and will be replaced quite soon with the new, permanent logo. And one by one the original features of the web site will make a welcome return soon. E.g. Web Cams, IRC Chat, Portal, Streaming Radio. And new features such as the Photo Gallery and Online Store are still in the pipeline as before.

But please remember, aberdeen-music.com is not out of the woods yet. The change of forum software is only an emergency short-term measure in order to try and reduce the server load that this web sites uses. This web site does still need to be moved to a dedicated web server soon and this is going to require a serious amount of money (est. 3000 a year).

Plans are now being made on how to raise this money and all suggestions and ideas are welcome. There will be a benefit event very soon and I intend on making a number of big changes to the way aberdeen-music.com is operated so that it starts to generate revenue of some kind. Unfortunately, this will mean that advertising will soon be placed on the web site albeit hopefully quite discretely. I certainly will try to avoid at all costs having large ad banners and pop-ups everywhere. But please realise that these changes are necessary in order to ensure the long term survival of this web site. Please check out the new Web Site Benefit Events Forum for more information regarding this!

In the mean time everyone please re-register on the forums if you have not already and get back posting! If you have any comments or suggestions then as before simply post your messages in the Comments & Suggestions Forum and if you run into any technical difficulties then the best way to make me aware of them is to post your messages in the Technical Problems Forum. Please be aware that you can make posts into this forum even if you have not re-registered or have not logged in.

For those of you that have a forum hosted here then please update the links on your web sites to point to the new direct URL for your forum. These are:

There will be further announcements as more things get sorted out. Also, can the moderators please PM or e-mail me once they have re-registered so they can be granted moderator access rights once more.

    Thanks.

  7. Although I have the horrible feeling I may eat these words in the future I have no intention of every allowing images back into signatures regardless if you are a subscribed member or not. Simply because there is no easy way to enforce maximum size limits on the size of the images allowed in them and you can be guaranteed that people will just take this piss if they were permitted. That is certainly what happened before.

Secondly, there will never be pop-ups on this web site (except the "You have a new PM" pop-up that you can disable anyway). Ads there will most certainly be but definitely not pop-ups. Hopefully the ads will remain discrete and unobtrusive but the idea you suggest is a good one. It might prove tricky to implement but if DeviantArt can do it then so can I.

And I agree with what you are saying about the smilies. I'll try and sort that out tonight.

Even if it's only upped to 50, I like having threads in as few pages as possible.

    Thanks.

True. But I'm trying to ensure the pages don't get too big for those on slower Internet Connections. I'll maybe up it to 30 or something.
