What are FLYING MATCHSTICK MEN?

A synthetic assault on the hip cultures mindset. Mixing rock, electro, folk, glam and pop with credibility to make a band that sound like Roxy music if they were all on acid.

Graham Peel Flying Matchstick Men

Flying Matchstick Men are a band started by two friends, Mark Peel and Alan Downie who have gone on to create a live experience that is hard to forget. While the two original members of the band have decamped and are no longer performing, brother of Mark, Mr Graham Peel, now fronts the band.

Front man and synth-monkey Graham Peel, at the age of 16 years old, was a professional orchestra conductor for the Inverclyde National Orchestra with whom he toured Britain and France. Guitarist, Ross Clark, was once involved in the now sadly defunct Cinefilm, Ross then toured with Mull Historical Society as their second guitarist before leaving that post to join Flying Matchstick Men.

Their live reputation goes before them wherever they play and in the past the band has supported acts as diverse as Chemikal Undergrounds next big thing the Sluts of Trust, Troika, and even had ex-Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahahim support them.

TROIKA

With comparisons to bands as diverse as Idlewild, Talking Heads and Mogwai under their belt, Lanarkshire art-rockers troika have consistently shown the music they make is as varied as the music enjoyed by the four musicians who make up the band. From Iains more Metal leanings to Neils love of space-rock / instrumental noise-outs; From Andy's post-punk influences and love of Krautrock to the more alternative sound of Pauls off kilter drum work.

A band committed to the music they and others make, troika have started their own record label run by their guitarist, Neil Milton - to release music by both troika and several other bands from Glasgow that have interested them.

Troika have spent the last two years gigging around Glasgow and the surrounding areas building up a steady fan base. During this time they have released a CD E.P. and a split 7 single with too many fireworks records and this year are recording material for their first album due for release in November.

Since the release of their E.P. and single troika have gained some high profile radio play on shows such as Jim Gellatlys Beatscene on Beat 106, Vic Galloways BBC Scotland show Air, the Glasgow University radio station Subcity and on BBC Radio 1 on the session in scotland.
