Ok say I'm looking at a tab like this

G------------------------|

D-4-2-0-----------------|

A-------3-2-0-----------|

E-------------3---------0|

Is there a way to translate these tabs into single notes to play on a keyboard? I understand that the numbers correspond to the fret, but how do I work out what actual note they correspond to? I don't wanna translate this specific one but just wanna know if its possible and how to do it, so I can play em on my synth....any help much appreciated.

easiest way is to reference this -

i.e. in your tab the first note is on the D string, fourth fret up. Check the picture, and it's an F#. The second note is on the D string, 2nd fret up, so it's an E.

It's a bit laborious, but I think that's what you'll need to do.

Remember #sharp notes can also be bflats, depending on the key of the piece, so you can use this one -

Obviously these are for guitar tabs, but ignore the top two (e and B) and they're the same of course.

Hope this is of some help.
