Metarie
My boyfriend and I are going to Edinburgh for a night or two next week and trying to find somewhere nice but reasonable to stay, preferably in the Old Town. I've had a look on Google but there's hundreds out there and I've no idea where to start.Any recommendations?
pogofish
The two travelodges are reasonable if you can find an unpopular date. One of which is in the old town itself & another is well placed for it. Otherwise, many of the OT hotels are rip-offs who will take your booking & try to push the price up & up. The SYHA have used the Uni halls in the Cowgate as a summer hostel & offer decent rooms at reasonable rates, without curfews shared facilities etc. Thy searching for them. They also have a nice new place at the top of Leith Walk, which is minutes walk away.
Bigsby
Yeah, Travelodge. The one on St Mary's St tends to get booked up well in advance so you are unlilely to get one of their cheap deals, but they've now taken over the Menzies Belford, admittedly its way over at the other side of Princess St but they are showing 49 rooms for next week. pogofish
There is another new one somewhere around the end of Lothian Rd as well, plus a new one at Haymarket but that seems to sell its rooms at a premium. There are also dead cheap rooms at the Edinburgh Conference Centre but that is out on the Heriot Watt campus & you would be dependant on night buses. Metarie
cheers guys. Not looking for cheapness as a factor particularly, we're just having a night away for the sake of it and want somewhere that's decent value for money. Found a few nice ones on lastminute.com so will investigate more.
Bigsby
MacDonald Holyrood is good then, and you can often get good rates on lastminute.

original_andy
Know you're not really looking for Hostels but can I recommend my favouorite, the Castle Rock Hostel? It's got character, situated right at the top of the Royal Mile and you're next door to the castle with some stunning views of the city. Castle Rock Edinburgh - Backpacker Hostel Accommodation in Edinburgh, Scotland.EDITActually, I'm not sure they do anything other dorms - so ignore that.
