Hey everyone' date=' thinking of buying a new valve amp as im bored with my solidstate. Saw a cheep Sound City 50Plus Mk 4 just wondered if anyone has had any experiance with this amp ans what their thoughts were.

Cheers in advance o_O[/quote']

Sound city amp were ok, its best to check it has the original partrige transformers and that the valve bases are ok.

You need to remember that this is a vintage amp and you have to treat it accordingly and expect constant maintenance.

I'm guessing this is the amp: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sound-City-1960s-50-Plus-Valve-head-Mk4-custom-built_W0QQitemZ7373119604QQcategoryZ10171QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

well to answer a few questions,

1) i play a lot of different styles from folk - funk - heavy rock but not metal

2) and yes it is that amp on Flebay

Idealy i would like a Matamp and secondaly an old orange but dont really want to pay out that kinda money untill im in a band and can justify it, (unless someone has one for sale cheep up here??? worth a try!)

i was only gonna bid on this one if it stays pretty low!!!

If you're looking for a very straight forward one channel/non master volume valve amp, then one of these might fit the bill: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/carlsbro-50-top-valve-head-70s_W0QQitemZ7374661691QQcategoryZ10171QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Two inputs with, bass treble, presence and volume. simple!

They appear on ebay a lot, they aint worth £300 though.
