First hit when searching for the error message you got - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
As others have said, it's a fix that shouldn't require a wipe/reinstall of Windows, and PC World should back up your laptop before doing any work.
i tried this and got it to work
thank you

already bumped the thread.

right this has happened on my mums laptop so figured i'd take your advice instead of running to pc world.
i'm reading this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215'>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 with all the registry stuff and renaming .bak - all to complicated for me. i'd probably f*ck it up more.
nothing simple like a system restore?

anyone know which bus(es) got to torry. Need to get to abbey place - so preferably near there somewhere would be good.
-
lol i'm a worrier though i always have doubts!
-
-
every fucking one i come across is dodgy.
and it seemed legit
-
not sure if i'm meant to understand that reference

yes but going by the dates the mileage would have been tapered with before it was under his ownership so he wont be able to explain and tbh he probably doesnt even know. he only bought the car to repair & sell on
-
mileages from the dvla mot history check
2008: 18,087
2009: 26,064
2010: 35,851
2011: 45,814
2012: 56,957
2013: 67,548
2014: 69,504so we thinking its been tampered with? probably not by this owner though.... which is a bit annoying. how to break the news you no longer will buy the car without looking like a knob & he came to aberdeen to meet me.
-
right i have done an hpi check on car i [was] hoping to buy this time - definatly no write off yay on the other hand 2 red alerts came up:
Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage
discrepancy on this vehicle.
The V5 registration document issue date does not match the information provided by the DVLAoct 2011 NMR has milage of 70k
dvla 2013 has milage of 65k
what to do now?
going from the old mot's which can be viewed online the mileage was consistant.... now i'm confused why there are 2 parties that should both have the same info and dont?
the date for for v5c reg seller said was 31/3/05 but i'm thinking he's given me when the car was registered.....
help. so confused. -
before considering this ZR what is the mileage and service history, these are extremely prone to head gaskets faults, they are costly to rectify. if its done a high mileage and it hasn't been done then walk away. tell tale signs are excessive white smoke from the exhaust and the temp gauge going up quicker than usual.
70 k miles
head has apparently been done (no proof) the guy said he bought it with the head failure to fix & sell on. had its mot last week and passed no advisories (assuming it wouldve came up if hadnt been fixed) unless its his mate doing the mot. thats the risk.
-
an MOT is only a test to see if the car passes certain regulations
if you get advisories you chose to get the advisories looked at or not. no repair work is carried out by during an MOT
my advice would be get the car in somewhere or i can recommend someone to check over your car to see if there is anything major that needs done that would cause it not to pass during the MOT. this way you can rectify any problems before paying for an MOT that won't pass.
what kind of car do you have?
who would u reccomend & how much?
and would i have to take it to a garage or could they come with me when i view it?
-
well i'm looking at getting a zr the one i'm interested in like i said just wwent through its mot this year passed with no advisories but last year had all the ones mentioned above.
in between then and now the head also went but has been repaired.
-
yes but they were advisories on the mot in 2013 but in the 2014 mot no advisories were listed and the car passed.
does that suggest the issued listed in the 2013 mot were fixed prior to the 2014 mot or that the garage the 2014 mot was done at just didnt pick up on them?
-
looking at a car that had the following advisories on its previous mot (2013) however just went through an mot earlier this month and passed with no advisories.
Offside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Headlamp deteriorated but light output not reduced (1.7.5a)
Offside Rear position lamp(s) deteriorated, but still visible from a reasonable distance (1.1.A.3d)
Offside rear tyre has slight undulations on tread
Both front wiper blades torn at ends but still clearing screenwant to know the seriousness of the things listed above & if i can check the issues have been addressed? i'm aware that some things might be picked up by one garage and not another but i dont want to think they've just been turned a blind eye to on the most recent mot bc the person has contacts at that garage or something. the mot's were carried out at different garages.

i would like to swap my sony xperia sp that is locked to orange/tmobile/ee for any sony xperia sp that is unlocked or locked to o2.
black in color and is brand new in box complete with all accessories & manuals charger etc. - exactly the way you would buy it from a shop!
ideally i would swap it for an xperia sp that is unlocked or locked to o2. can be black or white and it doesnt need to be all boxed etc. it just needs to be fully working and work on o2 network.
however i am open to consider other phones. so hit me with what you got
