How does one learn how to make electronic music? I want to make electronic music. I'm not talking about club music...maybe a little house would be cool but mostly indie-pop and stuff that blends with other genres. What programs do I need, how much are they? Cheap would be nice. Most importantly, how do I learn to use them well?

My roommate is driving me crazy tidying up our apartment. What can I do? She insists that our living room be kept immaculate. If I have papers or books on the coffee table, she'll put them in a pile with a note asking me to put them somewhere, which basically means my bedroom. I don't live this tidy. I like having a little clutter, but I don't want to start a fight. What should I do?
