  1. Ally, I'm not sure where you're coming from pal. Are you aiming to do stuff for yourself or are you looking to set yourself up as an agent?

Not strictly true, i know people in Aberdeen who play in bands rather than work, not everyone is in it for the art.

At the end of the day playing covers can be great fun and is a perfectly valid form of musical expression.

  2. Don't like her voice that much. Don't like her face. Hate the contrived image and the retro associations picked all too perfectly. The Video Games tune isn't too tragic though. Love the fact that the 'authentic' fetishists and muso wankers have had a nice big smack in the puss over the whole thing. So on the whole she's a force for good.

  3. I shall no longer be using aberdeen-music.com for promotion of my website and the bands I represent - which is ALL bands in Aberdeen and the Northeast. Contrary to various rumours about me, I do not favour my band or my mates bands. I make it quite public that anyone can email me and contribute to my site.

These accusations you're defending yourself from are news to me. I don't even know what band you're in. I presume this statement about you representing all bands in the North-East is simply a deceleration of your impartiality. Otherwise it sounds a bit odd.

It's a shame because I think we should all be working together and I'm more than happy to have a weekly article on AberdeenBands.com with the top trending topics from aberdeen-music.com linking my readers to aberdeen-music.com on a regular basis. I have no beef against aberdeen-music.com, I don't want to compete with them, I don't want to take any of the a-m.com users ... all I want to do is promote local music.

Did you discuss all this with the guys who run ab-music? (Whoever that is, I'm not entirely sure. Who is 'the boss'?)

I think you should take a deep breath, chill out, have a wee think about things, re-open a dialogue and start afresh.

I use aberdeen-music.com as a platform to spread my message to music fans in Aberdeen because I feel aberdeen-music.com have a great place in the music scene and a massive following...

It would be nice if ab-music could harness this sort of enthusiasm, and as a community start to feel the same way about itself as you do.

  4. Change the forum descriptions to something a bit less wordy. The existing descriptions sound as though they should be read in a mid-atlantic radio voice of the sort you used to find on Northsound adverts.

eg. Gigs and Events Announcements is currently described this way:

The forum for announcements and discussion regarding past and upcoming gigs, workshops and other events related to the local music scene.

Why not just say?: Promote your local gigs, workshops and events here.

    Networking is described like this:

Are you a band looking for a gig or offering a gig swap? Are you a promoter looking for bands to book? Then make the connection in this forum.

Why not just say?: Organise gig swaps; make connections with promoters and bands.

  5. Instead of separating threads into 'music discussion' and 'feedback' forums split them by interest/location instead.

Have an aberdeen music discussion forum (all discussion and feedback relating to the local music scene in one forum)

    Make

Musicians' Corner (change name of this forum to something a bit more descriptive)

    Networking

    News & Announcements

    Trading Post

as sub forums of the main local music forum. This creates a local music 'hub'.

Archive/close/delete the generally unused local band forums which (to an outside observer) make the scene look dead.

Have a more general music discussion forum for music discussion not related to the music scene. (Favourite albums, Pop Music, new Green Day single etc etc... mildly off-topic music stuff)

  6. Living Well is the Best Revenge rocks so hard. Somehow Fall Out Boy got huge from writing similar over-produced pop/punk tunes, but Midtown were just better.

"Like A Movie" is one of my favourite pop punk songs. The problem with Midtown is that they had a massive fall out with Drive-Thru shortly after Drive-Thru sold their souls to Geffen. The bitter Richard and Stefanie Reines did their utmost to damage the credibility of Midtown after that. Fall Out Boy "Take This To Your Grave/From Under the Cork Tree" era had the gimmick of shouty bits in their songs which Midtown did not. FOB were a pop punk band who were deliberately marketed to emo kids, whereas only a year or two before that Finch were still being marketed by Drive-Thru as "a dark pop punk band". Fashions change.
