  1. Still Alive Nina Had some correspondence with exwino recently about getting together.
  2. Kick Drum An old trick to get the "click" is to tape a coin to the drum skin where the beater hits, if this sounds too edgy then reposition the mic so it is slightly off axis. In the past I've used AKG D12, AKG D25, Electrovoice RE20, but anything that can cope with the high SPL of the beater will do. Condensers are not agood idea up close as the capsule will just bottom out. Sadly, a lot of engineers stick a ton of eq and dynamics into the kick before they even listen to it. Get your drummer to listen to the kick without any processing in the way to make sure that the drum itself sounds good. Hope this helps. good luck
  3. If you give me your email I'll send you a couple of things that might help. (particularly with mic choices and more importantly how to use them). And try not to get too wrapped up in the outboard thing! Remember that great recordings were being made decades ago before these shiny toys were available. ps I've done a considerable amount of recording, both studio and live and would be delighted to pass on my own experiences
  4. Gypsy Guitar I'm into Gypsy. you might not learn anything but I've got lot's of resources. We can certainly give it a whirl. I've been learning on my own for a couple of years too.
