Kick Drum An old trick to get the "click" is to tape a coin to the drum skin where the beater hits, if this sounds too edgy then reposition the mic so it is slightly off axis. In the past I've used AKG D12, AKG D25, Electrovoice RE20, but anything that can cope with the high SPL of the beater will do. Condensers are not agood idea up close as the capsule will just bottom out. Sadly, a lot of engineers stick a ton of eq and dynamics into the kick before they even listen to it. Get your drummer to listen to the kick without any processing in the way to make sure that the drum itself sounds good. Hope this helps. good luck
