    Doncaster’s 93MillionMilesFromTheSun not only manage to dampen stereotypes, but obliterate them. Combining layered, textured guitars over an array of effects and choral vocals, 93MillionMilesFromTheSun is one of those bands that, while evoking memories of the likes of Slowdive in their heyday or even a more sonically enhanced Maps, stands tall and proud in their own right due to the dazzling range of variation across their music. Another key element of 93MillionMilesFromTheSun’s extensive make-up is that not only do they express a desire to take their sonic experimentation one step further, but they also never lose sight of the fact that beneath all the reverb and delay lay actual songs that would sound just as affecting stripped down. The band's record 'Northern Sky' is a big-seller in One Up Records.

    His Name Is Codeine

    Hailing from the north east of Scotland and sharing a love of reverb drenched soundscapes and dark experimental rock in the vein of the Velvet Underground and The Black Angels, His Name Is Codeine complete the line-up. Formed in 2010, the trio have been gaining a reputation for their intense live shows, blending simple pounding drums and bass, with effect laden guitars and a three part vocal harmony to create a formidable wall of sound.

    The Carousels

    The Carousels have taken the Byrdsian/Teenage Fanclub ethic on board and have constructed a repertoire of expertly crafted songs bursting with soaring harmonies and melodies. The band will be showcasing songs from their recently released album ‘Sweet Northern Light’ which is now available through the legendary Northern Star Records at the following link: www.northernstarrecords.com/node/148

    Tunes on the night will be provided by 'Beauty Through The Noise' DJ/anorak, Ross McNeill, who'll take you all on a dirty, psychedelic noise trip with a little bit of country thrown in for good measure. Expect to hear plenty of tracks from the 'new psychedelic movement' from bands like The Black Angels, The Laurels, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Black Ryder, Black Market Karma, The Underground Youth and The Lost Rivers, not to mention classics by the 13th Floor Elevators, The Velvet Underground and Spacemen 3. Also expect to hear classics from The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, Gene Clark and many many more......

    Three amazing bands. Cracking tunes.

  7. The Carousels - 'Sweet Northern Light' LP

    Folks,

    Please see attached link to The Carousels' debut LP 'Sweet Northern Light' which has just been completed.

    The album was written and recorded in the north-east - Keith in particular! - and was mastered by Mike Denton (The Lucid Dream) and Lyn Ralph (His Name Is Codeine).

    It's a psych/folk/country record featuring violins, slide guitars and harmonies.

    The Carousels follow in the fine tradition of past Keith acts such as The Chymes and The Phoenix Band and recently sold out The Cavern as part of Liverpool's International Pop Overthrow Festival.

    The band will be doing an instore soon hopefully and CDs will be available soon.

    Alright folks,

    I've only recently returned to the area after about 3 years away, so I'm not that up to speed with what's going on. What I can do though is recommend a couple of bands that supported the successful Lucid Dream gig the other week.

    The Carousels are followers of country music and The Byrds etc. Their three piece harmonies and Rickenbacker sound were really really good. Check out their new single here:

    Also, check out His Name Is Codeine, who arguably stole the show at The Lucid Dream gig. Mega praise was heaped their way and rightly so. Intense, dark, menacing sound. Think The Black Angels with a female vocalist. They've really stepped up their game. Unbelievably good. Check them out here:

    **THE DAY HAS ARRIVED** - The psychedelic darlings of BBC Radio 6, The Lucid Dream, appearing alongside the very best of north-east psychedelia at Tunnels 2, Aberdeen, Scotland tonight, with Yogi Shoegazer Duncan on the decks! What better way to spend a rainy Saturday night? Doors from 8pm, fiver on the door ! Hope to see some of you there on this 'fool nicht'! Cheers!

  24. Glasvegas - Music Hall, April 23rd

    I saw them up in Forres in Jan - while James Allan has clearly let the showbiz side of things go to his head - dressed in white, ditching his guitar for a ridiculous mike etc - I still think they're well worth seeing live. Prefer them in small venues, but the Music Hall should be fine. Looking forward to it...
