  1. do you want to come along to Musical Vision tonight as my guitarist has called off sick, but I'm still going cause I've said to Andy from M.V. that I will not call off a rehersal at the last minute...

send me an email, and I'll send you a couple of the grooves we have been playing...

  2. Synth/Sample Sounds Mixer, from the Casio to the Moog, anyone who plays the Pantomime 4 reworked through an old brown brouge, Trance/Dance Saxaphone, Wah-Wah Trumpet vocals, Dub/Trombone, Shaker/Bell players, Hand Drums, Leg Bells, Nose Pipes, a lonley crab called Eric, playing the Spoons... Two small Crayfish who go neeep!

Anyone who has ever heard Burnt Sugar, Yo Miles, Re-Animated Live!

I am going to run open sesions at Musical Vision starting next month, if you can play what you don't know, then come along for five minutes or five hours...

the aim of the jam, record everything, cut and paste something unscripted, a one off from the night. Send out an MP3 copy to everyone involved, light blue touch paper and see what happens, if it works, do it again, but never the same thing twice... or indeed once...

go on dip a toe in the water...

  3. never heard "the Idiots are taking over" before, but I love it, that statement applies in my view, to the rest of the world and the way us Hughmando's are so hung up on war, add in some Henry Rollins style rage and the purity of Rage Against the Machine, and the pot could well be cook'in... not so sure about the sounds of Justice, but who knows...

I play drums, have all my own gear, and am part of a new band playing really Phat Phunk, we are only meeting up once a month to play at the moment, so could be interested in meeting up for a jam, to see if we mix well with the playing...

  4. we're doin chameleon, watermelon man and de boids arrive from the Headhunters so far, so maybe Actual Proof, Sly or Loft Funk still to come, we're also looking at some Bruford ones, G five and Joe Frazier. And a fair stack of John Scofield off of Uberjam.

I think there are some rough takes from the practices up on Ron Cockers site at Bibo...

  5. Calling all Trumpet players, Trombone sliders, Max Sax blasters...

Are you into playing really Funked Up Jazz? looking for a chance to "Never play the same thing Once" then look no further. We take our lead from the masters, Miles (70's) Herbie (Headhunters) and are starting to write our own take on Jazz/Funk or Fjunk if you like, we meet up in Aberdeen every couple of weeks or so, and would like to Hear You, and what you have to say, Musically...

send an email to designit@hotmail.co.uk and any sound files of yourself, and I'll send you back some rough sketches of what we are up to...

  6. what sort of music are you planning to record? do you have any rough cuts?

My drumming started in Rock and Blues, (long time ago...) a few years back I was bitten by the Miles Davis electric bug, and am at present in the early stages of building a band which is into Jazz/Funk, or Fusion if you prefer, I call it 'Fjunk', some people may just leave off the 'F', who knows, or cares.

Send me some MP3's and I'll give you a bell...

  7. is there a percutionist out there?

someone who loves the music of,

Miles Davis, Bitches Brew - Live Evil - Dark Magus...

    Herbie Handcock's, Thrust - Headhunters - Sextant...

Weather Report, I Sing the Body Electric - Sweetnighter...

even if you have never played in a band before! but you find yourself unable to stop playing along with music, on the edge of a desk, tapping your steering wheel, adding your own rythum and pattern...

have you ever bought a set of tom's or some shakers sat around a camp fire and played music with your mates? turned the acoustic guitar round and played the back, like a set of bongos? like the sound of shaking pasta and rice containers as you cook?

check out Airto... Airto Moreira - Trilok Gurtu - Lisbeth Diers

If any of this relates to you, and you want to play in Circle of Ash, just send me a message...

  8. do you like miles davis, or weather report, or bill brufords earthworks, or herbie handcocks headhunters???

i'm pulling together a disperate bunch of musicians to reherse and play our own kind of music, with help from the great musicians i've mentioned above...

all new ideas are welcome, and it will be run as near to a democracy as is humanlly posible, i hit plastic and metal with wood and felt... and i'm really interested in what sounds your could add, if you have any recorder bits send them to designit@hotmail.co.uk just to hear what its all about

    all the best phil anderson

  9. why you not want to play no more, Miles used to stop playing for a while, but he always came back with a new groove... dig in and find a new line of thought, the sound of a good horn letting rip is spine tingelling... good luck, phil

  10. instead of covers you must have something to say of your own. I am searching for a bass player who can drive the groove, walk away from it and play it backwards, odd time meters, set up a conversation with my drums...

if your interested, drop me a line. phil anderson

  11. not your average chinese cymbal, can be used for ride work, or a really big crash with loads of volume. Too loud for my set-up, would really suit rock/thrash/metal. 150.00

18'' - 14'' Paiste Trash set, fast cut ride or accent punch, very messy... 70.00

p.s. also have lots of Dixon cymbal boom arms for sale... 15.00 each

  12. message from Phil Anderson...

I don't suppose you like music like Herbie Handcock's Headhunters, with Paul Jackson, real funk...

or early Weather Report with Miroslav Vitous, or Dave Holland, anything by him, its just you are signed in as Jazzmafia??? and I have some players who are into forming a Fusion Band, not a Function Band.

If you have some time free one night, I'd like for you to come down Ct. Toms, don't worry I'll pay, you play. I could drag some cymbals and stiks and see if there's anything worth working...

    all the best phil

  13. looking for musicians, or a band, that are into playing free open grooves. kinda like early Weather Report meets the Mighty Boosh. I used to play rock music Lizzy, Skinard, MSG etc. But after hearing 'Live Evil' and 'Bitches Brew by Miles Davis my playing has changed, for the better... if the names John McLaughlin, Elvin Jones or Tony Williams mean anything to you, make contact...
