  1. I'm glad I stay in the sticks and so cannot even be bothered contemplating Hogmanay in Aberdeen due to effort to get home, means shite like this is easily avoided with little concern....out of interest what do people feel would be a realistic alternative in Aberdeen apart from these 3 bottom feeders? Why would someone good want to spend their Hogmanay in Aberdeen?

  2. Aye, but Blur were pretty shite.

Shush, go post in your Pumpkins thread....

Blur were pretty good for 2 albums, half good/half pish for one album, totally pish for the next one, then good for 2 again and then the last album was just kind of there....

  3. I'm currently reading Ian Fleming's "From Russia With Love". It's a cracker.

I've always fancied reading some Bond but never got round to it, just picked up a boxed set of the 14 books for 33 quid off Amazon!

Currently reading Slash's autobiography cos it was cheap in HMV.

  4. There are people on this board with terrible taste in music!

This list makes it look like all I listen to is Rufus Wainwright and Sonic Youth, this is clearly not true!

There are no Smashing Pumpkins related songs on this list....I think you cheated.

  5. Was anyone else in on Saturday night, and did anyone else notice that the entire downstairs reeked of shit? It smelled like a sewer in there, especially at the bar where it was strongest. I was there for 2 hours and it was constant. What the fuck? Gads!

Ridiculously expensive drinks AND it reeked of shit - and yet you stayed for 2 hours - you sir are a champion of self-punishment.

  6. I bought 'Big Trouble in Little China' cheap a while back in a fit of nostalgia, unfortunately I found it to be hopelessly pish nowadays, crap special effects and that old slapper from Sex in the City being rubbish.

I also revisited 'Escape from LA' for the same reason and found it a pish film for many reasons but also good in a crap kinda way. I think my expectations were too high first time round due to an enduring love of 'Escape From New York', definitely Kurt Russell's finest John Carpenter collaboration, closely followed by 'The Thing'.

  7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original). The girl at the end is being chased through a pitch dark forest by a chainsaw weilding maniac. While running away what does she do? Screams her fucking head off so that even though he can't see her he can just follow the screaming and find her. Hide in a fucking bush and keep quiet you silly bint.

Even better is when she is being chased by the hitchhiker at the end, limping along and he is quite obviously pretending he hasn't quite caught up with her and just kind of overacts and flails around beside her.

  8. If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?

    1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, MP3 etc)

    2. Put it on shuffle

    3. Press play

    4. For every question, type the song that's playing

    5. When you go to a new question, press the next button

    6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool!

    Opening Credits:

    "Christmas Day" by Jim White

    Getting quite appropriate.

Hmm, young uncontrollable urges are a bitch.

    First Kiss:

"Wake Up Alone" by Amy Winehouse

    Ha

    Breaking Up:

"I Am Legend" by White Zombie

I never was one for dwelling on break ups...

    Getting Back Together:

    "Isak" by Baroness

"Heart of Gold" by Neil Young

    Depressing prom.

    Life:

"Candy Says" by The Velvet Underground

    Depressing life.

    Fight Song:

"You Stole The Sun From My Heart" by Manic Street Preachers

    Mental Breakdown:

    "Misfit" by The Wipers

    "Heart Attack" by Sleater Kinney

    Hope this isn't an omen.

    Graduation:

"Love of Mine" by The Ones

    Flashback:

"(I'm Sorry Mama) I'm a Wild One" by The 5.6.7.8's

    Final Good Byes/Moving On:

"Rope Bridge Crossing" by John Parish & Polly Jean Harvey

"Hiding Drugs in the Temple (part 2)" by Kinski

Maybe this is a wedding guide omen.

    Birth of Child:

    "Raw Power" by The Stooges

    Final Battle:

    "Tommy Gun" by The Clash

    Death Scene:

    "Disorder" by Joy Division

  9. This is a fantastic website. As of today I am jobhunting and I found 21 jobs I am qualified and experienced in. I would never have known about them otherwise.

    Try these as well -

Oil and Gas Jobs | Oil and Gas Recruitment

    Technical Recruitment Consultancy - Matchtech

I recommend taking the time to post your CV onto them all to allow agencies to contact you as well as applying for specific posts, sometimes it pays to get a regular contact going with particular agents, once you have a rapport going they can prove very helpful.

  10. There were a few laughs in the 1st half, Saxondale worked better than I expected, but still isn't a great character to try and move into a live setting. I think that's half the trouble, his characters work best interacting with others, which means Paul and Pauline Calf's Video Diaries, Saxondale and I'm Alan Partridge are much preferable to the live show.

Alan Partridge worked well because the concept of promoting himself as a life coach to an audience was a natural extension to the character.

Other than the Partridge medley (Under Pressure being a particular highlight), the songs were all pretty crap and obvious filler material. The last song started as an amusing send up of his public image but outstayed it's welcome and descended into shock value by overuse of the c-word.

Overall, not worth 30-odd quid and I wouldn't rush back to see him live again, i'll stick with the Saxondale and Partridge DVD's.

  11. ...piano driven, epic as possible, not particularly experimental and not classical. No singing if possible.

    Any suggestions?

    Ta

Try Silver Ray. 3 piece band, piano, guitar and drums, no vocals. 'Humans' is a good starting point. maybe not piano orientated enough for what you are after though....

The Johan Johannsson 'Fordlandia' album I bought recently may fit the bill.

  12. Guns 'n' Roses were quite good in their time for that kind of thing, pissed all over Motley Crue etc. At least their music is listenable. I think I actually like them more now than I did then....

Making an album for this long and keeping songs from over the whole period is bound to sound weird and inconsistent, every report I remember about this album-in-progress over the years has mentioned Axl's latest influences.

    A rowing machine.

    Loads of Punisher graphic novels.

    A Squier Stratocaster in sunburst.

    A Fender practice amp.

    A Sony Playstation.

A Sega Saturn + loads of games.

A UK Subs T shirt signed by Charlie Harper on the back.

A black unit on wheels suitable for putting a TV on that has space underneath for DVD/video/whatever with another load of space below that, metal CD slotted racks on either side at the front and shelves up both sides.
