  10. DRIVE BY ARGUMENT need no introduction. After playing a blistering set during last years Freshers Week, they return north again with hits like "Sex Lines Are Expensive Comedy" still as good as day one THE TRADE blew us away on their first apperance at The Tunnels stepping in as a last minute addition when the nasty Rascals decided they had better things to do! They brought masses of people with them all the way from Tayside and you can see why - absolutely superb tunes played with the passion their fans deserve. Will be a pleasure to have them back! 10 EASY WISHES - em Im biased being their boss type person so Ill not say anything. theyre alright! FREE KORPS - finally starting to play lots of shows after what seemed like a quiet period, these guys always impress me and as always its a pleasure to have them again! Having played support to The Whip recently who were immediatley fans of the keyboard/synth led songs they'll be up for another brilliant performance! LINKS TO ALL BANDS IN TOP FRIENDS AT www.myspace.com/aberdeengigpromotions Tix from ONE UP, www.ticketweb.co.uk or on the door
  11. Glenrothes based The Manikees have slowly been building their way up through the ranks with some truly brilliant songs that stick in the brain! Red light Company have just finished supporting Editors and just by listening to a couple of their songs you can see why. Heartfelt, Powerful and yet danceable at the same time, these guys will surely follow in Editors footsteps before long For 3 you cant really complain! Will be a top night - third act to be confirmed soon Tix from One Up, www.ticketweb.co.uk or on door
  12. mmm - electro skunk rock - what a lovely description of a genre! Thankfully the music sounds alot better! This will be a storming night. The two supports are in my opinion a couple of the most promising local bands and We Smoke Fags know how to party! Id just book the next day off work/college/uni/school and join in with this! www.myspace.com/wesmokefags tix from One Up, www.ticketwebco.uk NOW!
  13. Featuring members of Brakes, Electric Soft Parade and Goldrush, its no surprise that this musical collective are famed for their gigs, club nights and random occurrences. Their psychedelic pop sound has already seen them nominated for The Indy Music Awards 2008, and they are ready to share with you good people of Aberdeen, a little of their celebration of collective yesness! Count us in! You? www.myspace.com/dannyandthechampionsoftheworld1 Support from superb new Aberdeen bands Hidden Leaves and Cook House Hereos
  14. Recieving masses of praise from NME, CLASH, Q and others OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT follow on from what THE WHIP have brought back to the forefront recently. Beats and haunting vocals mixed beautifully to make up a mighty fine live show! Have a listen to lead track "Girl From The BBC " on their myspace and Id say thats all it'll take to convince you that this is the place to be! Only 5 Tix from ONE UP, www.ticketweb.co.uk and on the door FOLLOW LINK AT www.myspace.com/aberdeengigpromotions - the band are in our top friends! Cheers
  15. Aussie stars Operator Please have been setting the UK alight with debut album Yes Yes Vindictive coming out recently. Single "Just A Song About Ping Pong" is an indie disco favourite already. Likened to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs mainly due to the fearsome female vocals, this band are really going places. Again its unlikely that such a small show will have the pleasure again - with loads of high profile festival slots in the summer set to firmly place these guys and girls names in lights www.myspace.com/operatorplease Tickets on sale at www.ticketweb.co.uk NOW and One Up from MONDAY
  16. Late Of The Pier return to Aberdeen for what is sure to be another blistering live performance. Fresh from releasing single "The Bears Are Coming" this small show warms the band up nicely for their numerous festival shows over summer. Grab the chance to see them in the small venue now!!! www.myspace.com/lateofthepier Support TBC Tickets from ONE UP from Monday 7th and from www.ticketweb.co.uk NOW!!! Tunnels 2 show so limited tickets!! Get them soon!
  17. whip Eh bit late now but it wasnt sold out when you asked yesterday!!! It got relatively close to it on the night tho and was a fuckin brilliant gig! The thing is ticketweb only get a small allocation for most of my gigs - One Up get most - so when they sell whatever they have it says SOLD OUT - shouldve been a message telling you to see my website though. Ah well - all worked out well in the end! Ross
  18. www.myspace.com/10easywishes www.myspace.com/aberdeengigpromtions Hopefully see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. As a promoter (very general term) you speak very little sense! I start by searching for bands I think will work here, contact their management/booking agency, negotiate fee, contract and all add ons like hotels etc, negotiate suitable dates and thats just the start. Then we have to do posters, e flyers, myspace work etc. As you rightly point out it is then my job to help promote the gig as a whole but without the help of the bands press people - ie getting them on local radio, sending out promo CDs to local DJs, getting newspaper interviews, NME ads for the tour etc it would be very hard. There are only so many people I can reach through the likes of this forum and my own website. The bands input is essential otherwise they wouldnt have PR companies. I also rely heavily on the local supports I put on doing some work to get their mates/fans down and to spread the word. The ones that do are the ones we keep using. Those as Ive said before that turn up with 8 people arent likely to be asked again. Just shows they cant even get friends to go so whats the likliehood of anyone that doesnt know them going. Its also a good idea to make yourself look popular when supporting so that the main bands management/label take some notice. I fully appreciate that part of my job is to "promote" but the title is a little general. It should be down to all parties to help the cause. Surely all bands would rather play to a full room than an empty one and a promoter alone cant fill a room of 300 people!
  20. my typing is awful today by the way - I can spell really!!!
  21. If any of you complaining can genuinely say that youve contacted them, actually have decent material and yeah some sort of story - why should they simply do an article saying "this bands playing here"? You could have fifty articles a week like that. When I got 10 Easy Wishes in they had a single and full UK tour on, this band like or not had an "interesting story" in the drummers age - and theyve still ignored you, it could mean one of two things - they dont like you or youve not tried hard enough. Without wanting to use NME again - Ive been trying for ever to get them to pay attention to certain projects but theyre busy people with thousands of bands trying the same thing, which to a certain extent is the same with Aberdeen Journals. They arent there as a music newspaper so on top of the hundreds of bands in Aberdeen they are having to deal with thousands of news stories too. Its true, some local bands expect to headline the tunnels and that gives them the devine right to be featired. Again hating to use personal situations but with 10 Easy Wishes they simply work hard as fuck as do I for them. Ie self funding the single and losing money on a tour etc etc. And its slowly and I mean slowly working but its taken years!! I promote at The Tunnels and you get locals who make the effort to take 40 odd people with them and then you get the ones that turn up, slag off the fact its dead and then blame everyone else. I suspect that this is maybe the bands that work hard getting coverage and the others not??? Aberdeen has a lot of good local bands and also a lot of shit ones, but as can be seen by the amount of shit bands in national press - theyre the ones with the right attitude.
  22. To be fair, its a bit harsh on this band. I know nothing about them but if it was their first gig its a bit early for everyone to be saying theyre shit. Id imagine most bands arent amazing first gig and all that. As for the Evening Express, having been involved in getting 10 Easy Wishes coverage, they are generally pretty nice peole to deal with. If you ask them to feature something they will do their best, ie why Marie-Clare Jones has been to two of their gigs, did an article on their single lauch and went to the bother of doing a photo shoot for this too out of town. I think if bands generally made more effort to get on with them then theyd prob help! Im not saying their coverage is great, its limited, but to be fair the average reader of that particular paper isnt really all that much the target of local bands. How many 16-22 year olds or whatever read this? They are run by a pretty big company who is only interested in selling units and so have to feature articles of interest to their target. It would be like NME or whatever other crappy music mag having an artcile on an old lady being run down by a First Aberdeen bus or something. Just this week though in their five things you must do was the battle of the bands thing at the tunnels, and some other live music event which escapes me now. I guarentee if you get in touch with them they will do their best to help.
