  1. Score one for the counter-culture.

I really like that Taylor Swift, do you like Taylor Swift? Much catchier than that lot on on your profile (Thrush, is it? Who the fuck are they?)

    Pet hate: musical revolutionaries.

  2. People who say to me

" I can't believe you haven't heard anything by Duffy/whatever popular shite is on now"

No I haven't heard anything by her, because I don't listen to shitey mainstream radio...now fuck off...

  3. Well, I'm lucky in that I have met my musical heroes, namely the guys in Kings X, (Doug Pinnick, Jerry Gaskill and Ty Tabor) - three of the nicest people you could care to meet and utter gentlemen. They were very kind to my wife who is disabled and also a fan.

    Others would include:

    Charles Darwin

    Martin Luther King

    Ghandi

    Isaac newton

  4. Latency is a pain in the arse, and aas has already been sugggested, ASIO drivers are the way to go, but they won't get rid of it entirely.

I have found that a good way to get rid of it is to use a wave Editor such as Audacity (free download) and record onto that. You can then zoom in on your audio track and manually cut out the slight delay you will see at the very start, then align your track back to zero.

A ittle cumbersome, but I've had good results with that.

  5. This is a term which has always pissed me off....

No such thing in my opinion. An artist has a perfect right to make the music they want to, and nothing wrong with maximising their cash flow too.

Artistic integrity doesn't impress bank managers or pay mortgages.

In any case, one persons "seeling out" may be anothers "musical progression", it's all so subjective really.

  6. Nowadays, they are a pale shadow of the band they once were.

In their day however, they were extremely influential. I clearly remember that there used to be a new clone coming out every week that Kerrang! would get lathered up about.

I saw them on the "Puppets" tour and they were bloody fantastic. Not so sure I would bother now though.....

  7. About us:

We are a four piece band based in (roughly) the New Deer area.

Comprising Vox (female), Guitar, Bass and Drums. We have gigged several times and have been well recieved.

    Ranging in age from 27-44

We have all our own decent gear and rehearsal space.

Currently playing an eclectic mix of covers, but we are well up for throwing some original stuff into the set in future (I have written/recorded some stuff).

We are not into playing every weekend, as we all have lives/familes etc. but gigging once or twice a month is reasonable. We believe in a balance of "getting it right" and having fun. None of us is a virtuoso but we are certainly all solid and competent.

We are looking for another vocalist primarily. This would allow our current vocalist to possiby play keyboards (and take some of the load off the guitar lol) and generally beef up the harmonies.

So, if you are a decent singer (male or female, age unimportant - if you're good enough you are old/young enough etc) then we would love to hear from you. If you can play another instrument then that would certainly be a bonus but by no means essential- vox is the priority.

Please reply by PM if interested.

  8. They've experienced the scenario that every parents fears - the loss of a child - yet there's just something about those two that gives you the creeps.

I totally agree. On one hand (as a worried dad myself) I feel for them for the loss of their child, but there is a certain indefinable quality about them that makes me shudder.

It's hard to put your finger on it, but their whole persona and the way they have reacted just doesn't seem quite right somehow.

  9. It's not just the town where prices are escalating.

I live up in new Aberdour, and five years ago I bought a seven bedroomed former manse with 3/4 acre garden. I paid the princely sum (then) of 130k. i have recently had it valued at 400k. However, this is really just virtual money, as the only way to make money on it would be to downsize (which I don't want to do) to avoid spending any"profit" on another house.

As mentioned above, buying to let is definitely the way to go. I bought two flats in the West end of Aberdeen just over a year ago, and though they were costly, it has certainly paid dividends and shpuld be a nice nest egg for the future.

Which is really just as well seeing as pensions are totally fucked, but that's a story for another day.......

  10. Drummer required to join "Get Back".

We are a 5 piece rock/pop covers band (though some originals may be in the pipeline) based in Ellon/Aberdeen area.

We gig mainly round about Peterhead/Banff etc, but are planning gigs in Aberdeen in near future. We all have lives, so we gig/practice a couple of times a month which suits us fine.

Line up is vox, guitarx2, bass and drums.

Our drummer is planning to go back to Australia by Christmas time, hence the need for a replacement.

We range in age from 25-41, so no stigma regarding age. No wannabes though!

Anyone intersted then please PM me.

    Paul

  11. Hi

We're a friendly gigging pub band called Get Back. We play a wide variety of covers and don't like to limit ourselves to one musical genre. At the moment no original material, but we are tentatively thinking about working some stuff into the set.

Our ages range from 25 -41, so fairly eclectic. Instrumental line up is:

    Vocals, Bass, 2 guitars, drums.

Our bass player is leaving at some point, but staying around till we find someone else.

We play mainly in the North of the "shire", and are regulars at The Palace in Peterhead. We usually gig about twice a month as we all have other committments, and practice once a week when we can all manage.

    So are you:

    1. Not a kid

    2. Not a wannabe

    3. A decent, solid bass player. (By all means you're welcome if you can play like Geddy Lee, but it's not really neccesary)

    4. Backing vocals are an advantage

Anyway, thanks for reading. Repies by PM please, as I'll check this regularly.
