It's still going ahead. 13 bands confirmed so far. It looks like the release of it will be delayed to October though.

Yes it most certainly is still going ahead. Line-up is still not completely decided although hopefully will be by the end of next week. We have a myspace too. www.myspace.com/granitecityrecordsuk
It looks a bit rubbish right now though because we don't have a logo or much on it but feel free to add us

Are the tracks going to be recorded or just taken as they come from the bands?
It's upto the bands themselves really.

Fit Like Aberdeen is a bit cheesy sounding. We would like a title that is locally related though. Any suggestions?

Its a secret

although if i was looking for the best bands to be on it i would have done just that, went looking, find out who has been the more established/succesful etc first, got them to agree to it, then i would have posted on here to fill the rest of it up. what we may see here is that many of the more established/better bands ignoring it because they percieve it to be any old cd or a pipe dream.
You make a good point, which is why we are not only considering bands replying to this, we are also seeking out other acts that have not responded and asking them individually.

so surely it would make more sense to do a proper release (album? ep?) for the best bands then, with the money.
no offence, but whats the point in filler?
Well it's a good job that there isn't going to be any filler on this then isn't it?

Thank you to everyone who has responded to our original post, and to all the bands who have PM'd in the last few days, we are currently listening to and considering each band and we will be in touch shortly.
In answer to the questions on what makes this compiliation different to previous ones such as Fat Hippy, this compilation will be on a larger scale, and will be heard by more people because of the fact it is free. It will have a much higher press run and will also be distributed outside of Aberdeen in record shops and venues all around Scotland. The plan is to distribute this to record labels, radio stations and the press nationwide in order to expose the local music scene.
Aberdeen is very much ignored in terms of the music scene, and the fact that Go North isn't being hosted here this year isn't going to help matters. Hopefully this compilation will turn things around.

Yes, we know, there are plenty of local based compilations kicking around but how many have truly made an impact?
We are putting together a compilation that will truly represent the Aberdeen Music Scene. We are hoping to make this a free compilation that can be available at all local venues, record shops etc to pick up and also around venues in Scotland. It will also be used as a tool for record labels to discover the great talent in the city all at once. The aim is for an initial 2000 press run and see where it goes from there. We want to reach as many people, particularly people in Aberdeen that may go to bigger gigs but be unaware of all the great local bands there are.
So what are we looking for? Well, some of Granite City's finest are already confirmed and we want more bands, so get in touch.
We want sponsors to help make this possible (again, we have already begun getting this but the more money put into it, the more copies we can have pressed). Think, venues and promoters, this will benefit you too in the long run.
We want artists or anyone that can contribute to designing the packaging.
We want anyone interested in promoting this compilation and we want suggestions for a title.
Please send PM's if interested.

It's been a year in the making but Granite City Records Volume 1 is finally going to be released. The CD will have an initial press run of 3000 featuring 16 great Aberdeen acts. The aim for this release is to simply bring more attention to the local music scene from Aberdeen and outside the city and money made from gigs will go towards getting more copies of this CD pressed. We want to get this CD in record shops across the country, get it on the radio and for it to be heard by everyone in the City.
The CD will be launched at Cafe Drummonds on Friday 21st March with live music from the following artists:
Eric Euan
Eskimo Blonde
Flaming Katy
The Snake Temple Kings
The Phoenix Band
9pm- 2am , 4 entry
18+
Plus FREE CDs all round
We hope to see many Aberdeen-Music users down to show their support for this project
