Agreed. Very poor.

I saw Winter's Bone at the Belmont the other day. Pretty bad it was.

For me, it's on a par with these bathroom attendants that you find in nightclub toilets. I just want to urinate, wash my hands, and leave. Without some guy asking if I need assistance drying my hands.
.
Tell me about it. Whoever thought toilet guys were a good idea!

I enjoyed it without being overwhelmed. Couple of songs really grabbed me though a lot does seem to have passed from memory. Corinne West's general movement has to be some of the jazziest I've seen in the folk world; looked as though she was really into the music, which was cool.

The disingenuous fuck who accosts everyone on Union Street and uses a question about 'a place to get a free meal in Aberdeen' as a prelude to asking for a pound.

I know that when you sell a house you have a duty to inform buyers about anti-social neighbours. Obviously it's a fraught territory and the definition of anti-social can be disputed.
Regarding the guy with the loud tele - have you tried talking to him?
-
He did work on a couple of other guys an they were terrible, they just didnt realise it as they werent really into tattoos. .
Maybe I too could get a living tattooing people who aren't really into tattoos.

I'm pretty sure things like the urinal, such as a flushing toilet, exist so that we don't shit and piss all over the floor. I could be wrong though...
Yes, that's its primary function, the function of which Duchamp was playing upon by sticking it in a gallery.
-
Well...stick figures on a cave wall sure beats this.
So...whats your point? That modern artists suck more than ever?
Things like the urinal exist as a reaction to representational art and the idea that art can only be used to imitate reality.

Just discovered my bedroom is a little on the leaky side.

Art is subjective and most your arguements come off as nothing more than pretentious tripe. .
The word 'pretentious' seems to be being bandied around more by people trying to stifle conversation than contribute to the topic.

Yes, she expressing something, but what is it? I don't have a clue, and so far no one in this thread has said what it is
You seem to be suggesting that if something is challenging it has no value. Perhaps she isn't making one bold statement. Perhaps her art simply reflects the confusion and frustration we all experience each and every day.
if the vast majority of a sample audience don't have a clue what's going on, then what's the point? The majority of people watch Avatar. If art was left to the majority of people then we'd still be drawing stick figures on cave walls.

I don't think anyone here is discussing it as art. Filming a grotesque, sub-Jackass stunt and insisting that it make one think about art in new way, merely because it's shocking, is pretentious.
Are you saying that because it is repulsive it isn't art?
The performer doesn't 'insist' anything either.

Art is John Constable and Monet
Art isn't just about fruit-bowls and fields.
-
If it's art, then this is would be the second coming of christ.....
How can you judge whether or not it is art? I'd be interested to know your criteria for judging something as art / not art.
-
I didn't say it wasn't art ... just that it was really bad art.
And I don't find it interesting that Brokencyde are able to perform, and what that says about society so at least I'm consistent in my views.
If you don't have a solid conception of what art is then I don't see how you can label this 'bad art'.
-
No. It was a some spaghetti. Piss and period blood.
But people were watching it and we're talking about it. If you're so unaffected why bother making the thread?
-
A quick look on Wikipedia can always help too:
Performance artists often challenge the audience to think in new and unconventional ways about theatre and performing, break conventions of traditional performing arts, and break down conventional ideas about "what art is," -
Pushing boundaries and asking questions? No. It was pissin in a pan to seem edgy. It was a load of shit.
Interesting you use the term 'it was a load of shit'. The girl in the video says something similar.
-
I would say it's much more pretentious to label something 'not art' and refuse to clap, than to be an accepting and accomodating audience.
Isn't it interesting that we have institutions which stage this kind of thing; that we have people who are motivated to perform it? What does it say about society?
-
It seems a lot of people are only comfortable with art as auditory / visual stimulation - a nice song or picture. This is certainly something else.
-
It's not that bad. It's slightly repulsive and therefore challenging, bringing up questions about the nature of art, artists and the stage. It pushes consciousness because you have never seen anything like it and are inspired to think about the motives behind the performance and the circumstances that give rise to it.

How much is a pint of Punk IPA in Musa (roughly)?
It's in the three pounds seventy five region. That said, now that they've stopped the open mic, perhaps the price will come down a bit. Or go up. Probably go up.
Has anyone ever hired a bus?

Avoid Bain's Coaches at all costs. A track record for being shite throughout the area. Had a very bad experience myself which involved spending four hours to travel roughly 100 miles because the driver had failed to take a map. Very unhelpful staff who wanted us to pay 600 in cash for their services and refused to countenance our very legitimate complaint against them. They're the cheapest...for a reason!
