  1. It's worse during practice. You're trying to discuss the finer points of chord progressions or harmony with the lead guitarist, and suddenly the drummer strikes up some anoyying rythm and you can't even hear yourself think.

no way man... lead guitarists are infamous for wailing away at every available opportunity during a practice...

  2. Interesting thread. Drums are as loud as hell though. Probably one of the worst instruments to play at home for that very reason. A full band would probably be better, at least people could have a singalong whilst deep frying their Mars bars etc.

yep and probably another reason there are less drummers around. mind you, a guitarist practicing through a shitty 10w amp instead of the prefered cranked valve amp is probably the equivalent of putting pads or whatever on drums

  3. i would think that the noise of the drums themselves are definitely above permitted levels... basically, above 90db (i think) will damage your hearing, so surely anything above that is 'anti-social', 'unacceptable' or whatever. not sure about hearing them from a few doors down though. i'd agree with just waiting on the guys coming to measure the volume, see what they have to say.

  4. but it has a pitch shifter! how can that go wrong? would it detune, or something?

it'll probably just fall apart in a week or two. in fairness though, i've no experience of the actual stombox pedals they make, just things like the 'v-amp' pod style units, and the actual amplifiers they stick them in ('v-ampires' or something...).

it's 20 new though so even if it sounds shit, as long as it works i guess you get your moneys worth.

i once got a boss delay/pitch shifter called an RPS-10 for less than 30 quid. looks like an ancient sci-fi film prop. no idea how it sounds, because i neglected to acquire a power supply for it. think its sitting in a cupboard somewhere...

  5. sounds obvious but you have to be careful about what fish you eat raw. dont really know anything specific, but im pretty certain you cant just eat anything

i tried to make my own sushi once, fucked it up o_O it tasted fine, but couldn't get the rice to pack together properly; think i basically just saturated the rice with too much of the dressing

  6. BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Three killed in Idaho shootings

    Another incident in America.

When will gun laws be changed? Surely the government has to realise that if it is harder for people to get hold of guns, then less incidents like this will occur? o_O

they're far too attached to their archaic right to bear arms to go changing it for such trivial things as reducing the chances of getting shot in the face by some maniac.

also, in general a lot of americans don't look at it as 'this wouldn't happen if it was harder to get guns, thus it needs to be harder to get guns.' there more concerned about the individual, thus they see it as the fault of each individual shooter (pretty much 'guns don't kill, people do') rather than their gun laws. or something like that.

  7. i have one of the older (ie not slimline) models. 2 pads, 2 memory cards. it's temperamental when playing dvd films but hopefully you wouldn't care about that 8-) say 30 if you were wanting it.

  8. yes we all know it's pish, people rant about it (and behringer, crate, pish marshalls mg-av-whatever-they-are etc) all the time on here

to be honest i don't think i've ever heard someone really 'swear by' line6 or similar. people use them cause they're cheaper than valve amps. i guess other minor consolations are solid state stuff is more managable (lighter, doesn't need revalved etc) and they don't have to be turned up full to get the, ah, best tone.

i assume you're talking about the amps and multi-fx/amp modeller unit things. don't know anything about the delay pedals or whatever else they make.
