  1. I'm looking for a band in the local area who can play Fifties style music to fill the vacant support slot left by The Creoles at The Lemon Tree on May 12th.

I know there's plenty bands in Aberdeen who'd give it a bash, but I'm hoping there is a group out there who have somehow passed me by (I say that because I've been on the lookout for years), that love Rockabilly and Jive etc. and can actually play it.

This is a serious plea, I've sold tickets to people expecting to see three bands and I would love to give the "well paying" slot to a local group.

  2. Koolsville Magazine is back for the second year at The Lemon Tree for what hopefully will become an annual Fifties Rock 'N' Roll Night.

HI-VOLTAGE, one of the UKs top Rockabilly bands, travel up from Edinburgh, while THE SABREJETS fly in from Belfast with their greasy leather hard Rockin beat - local 50s trio THE CREOLES complete the line-up with DJs Paul Downie from Irvine and yours truly playing records!

If you're up for it, the DJs from Glasgows number one Rockabilly Club "ALL TORE UP!" will be at snafu from 5 til 9 for a pre-blowout record hop.

  3. I agree, all the bands were great this year. As one of the Elvis die-hards (and this years DJ) I always look forward to hearing the different interpretations of the snarl-lipped one's work. This year I thought Bill Ely and Catnips slection was the best. "Yoga Is As Yoga Does" rocked my world.

Kill Baby Kill were interesting and brought a fresh perspective to some of my favourites and Tupelo Town Assembly gets a greasy thumbs up for getting down a dirty.

Most Elvis fans enjoy a good cover version and Saturday nights acts all did superbly without taking the p*** too much.

Thankfully there were no hackneyed old Elvis impersonators, who surely must be the saddest people on the planet. I like a laugh and don't mind Elvis getting pelters for some of his work. But Elvis wigs and jumpsuits from partymania leave me cold - these people probably never had an original thought in their life.

  4. I gather the majority of people on here are a good bit younger than myself, (I'm 44) but I'm still into music in a big way and it continues to play a large part in my life. Having said that, if you know me, I'm pretty much through with promoting gigs and DJing.

I've dusted down my old drum kit and slapped on some fresh skins and I'm praying there are some old geezers in this City who feel the same way.

Its about time Aberdeen had a Fifties Rockabilly band doing the rounds and I'd be delighted if I could track down a musician or two through this board who are into old fashioned authentic rockabilly (Johnny Burnette Rock 'n Roll Trio, Charlie Feathers, the Sun label etc).

A slap bass player and a lead guitarist would make a good start!!

By the way, if you're a young 'un, that would be cool too.

PM me if you're serious, please.

  5. Why on earth would it be the shop assistant that's being unreasonable? No one was MAKING you buy it.

I actually can't believe you asked for a pound off - are your resources so low that the difference between 7 and 6 has such an impact on your bank balance? Displays such as that just perpetuate the myth that Aberdonian's are tight-fisted bastards.

If you're getting CDs for less than a pound per CD' date=' you're already doing very fucking well.

What was the box set anyway?[/quote']

Its was 1950s Rock 'n' Roll set. It was cheap because most of the stuff on it was pre-1956 and in the public domain. There are quite a few 50s budget compilations being released these days and all really cheap because of the lapsed copyright. The one in Fopp was actually one of the better ones on the go and was recommended by a mate.

7.00 was RRP and I just don't like paying full whack for damaged goods.

  6. I just wanted to air this moan.

I saw this 10 CD box set in Fopp, only 7 quid! (bargain) But the box had a dented corner and it was the last one.

I asked the bloke at the till if I could get a quid off 'cos it was damaged and he refused.

Am I being unreasonable or was he?

    I didn't buy it.
