  1. Holy fuck, ive been looking for some cool old abanoned buildings for a photography project... shall definatley check theese out..!

any more places like this that anyone knows of?

Contact the curator of the Blairs Museum then - Although the college complex is now officially in the hands of the developer, last time I spoke to her she told me that they could still arrange access to several most interesting parts of the building if you gave her a couple of weeks notice. Some bits have deteriorated quite badly though and you won't get in there. :(

    :)

  2. I saw a guy being manhandled to the ground and cuffed. He looked like he was trying to get up on the wall as well, I got the impression he may have been an aquaintance trying to get the guy down and got lifted for refusing to co-operate with the police,

They didn't exactly look like they had any idea what to do about the situation, I guess it's a tricky one.

I think I saw him remonstrating with an officer on the tape - He was clearly trying to get-in closer.

I would imagine situations like this must be high-up in the most difficult things an officer can face? I've no great sympathy with a lot of them in general but I would find it hard to wish having to deal with something like this on anyone.

  3. It is bloody hard to find a shop that recognises WEE IME. The deliverymen just won't take the stuff, even if you have agreed collection of the old appliance with the salesperson.

Keeping on good terms with an elderly neighbour can be useful here - The council still allow a couple of free uplifts a year to over 65s. ;)

  4. Wirelessly posted (Vodafone/1.0/SEX1i/R1AA Opera/9.5 (Microsoft Windows; PPC; Opera Mobi/2141; U; UK) UP.Link/6.3.1.20.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

weird to think a few of us were there at the exact same time without realising who each other was... saying that' date=' the crowds beside the car were massive. nosey buggers.[/quote']

Well Dianne, Given the concentration of bars & venues in that area & the number of folk involved in some way or other, I would be a tad surprised if there was not at least a couple of members in that area most of the time

In fact, I realised I was was sitting right behind one AM member when I had coffee with a pal in Books & Beans. Maybe best she didn't know it was me because we have had fairly strong words on here in the past but whenever I've met her in real life, she has always been quite charming. :)

  5. I'm guessing at a fuel pump/pipe leak, combined with already hot metal and the extra heat today. Or an electrical fault. Whoomph!

Was ther a rally or other sort of classic vehicle event on today? Saw a few spotless old bikes and cars on my way into town - Highlights were a Vincent twin and an immaculate Ariel Leader. :)

  6. Steve Hillage would have to be the ultimate prog hero for me.

I used to like some of Hillage's stuff a lot, although other stuff of his is the aural equivalent of watching paint dry for me. Never got into Gong though, not at all.

Then a pal ended-up working for him and Miquette in System 7 and his tales of the complete and utter wankery he had to put up with from them did kind of put me off them altogether.

Although to my surprise I did quite enjoy them again when I wandered into a tent in an "enhanced" state at Solfest a couple of years back:

  7. If you liekd the first Asia album i'd recommend egtting the reformation album Phoenix, very similar to the first album,.Asia's most interesting album except for the first one was possibly Aqua which was the first they did with John Payne which I thought was excellent.

I have Aqua but have never got that into it. Maybe I will give it a few more listens. :)

  8. Similarly I'm a huge fan of half of 'Big Generator' and '90125' albums by Yes because they have that same sort of huge synth driven ambience, although 80's yes is a little poppier than Floyd. If you don't know it, check out the song "Shoot High, Aim Low" from Big Generator. So, so good.

Yup, those are good albums but I've never seen them in the same way as the more properly "prog" albums, before and since - They were much more of a straight-up rock band at that point IMO.

  9. my only gripes were no 'Like a Hurricane' or 'Fuckin' Up', one of which at least I hoped would arrive at the end to be a good closer, I found the encore a bit anti-climatic after what came before. 'Down By The River' was indeed immense. 'Rockin' In The Free World' probably had a couple too many false endings but never mind..

I'm wondering if this was a rehearsal of a TV-friendly set for his Glastonbury appearance in a few days?

Personally I'm not entirelly displeased about no Like a Hurricane - I love the song but it can occasionally break me right up. Ex's etc.

  10. Along with many of the above:

    alpha.jpg

Still one of the ultimate space rock albums IMO, and possibly the one that got me into the genre. It is still one of the albums I am most likely to unwind to today.

    Maybe neck and neck with:

And some of the early Eloy albums were no bad either, particularly:

I still have my vinyl of those, which I caried back from a school trip to Austria, some years before they had any release here and thankfully well before they took that god-awful metal nosedive!

And of course no small mention for Crimson and :

The Gong/Caravan/ELP etc kids used to run away from me - Lightweights!

I better stop now - Could be here all night. :D

  11. I concur.

Won't go into my hatred for the human race as it goes without saying after a gig at the AECC and I'd rather focus my mind on the quality of the music, which was fucking ace

Seconded - Loved the gig, Young is one of the few artists I've wanted to see for many years. But fuck, did it remind me just how much I despise the AECC. I think my neck/uper back will need to be in traction for a few days from all that craining!

Laura Marling was pleasant enough but totally unsuited to that kind of venue IMO.

  12. Don't park in places where you're not supposed o park, then they'll be made redundant.

    Simple.

So what about the 16-18 tickets I've had cancelled in the last few years, because I was properly parked and paid for when they were issued then?

I've only had one deserved ticket in my life and that was ages ago. Long before the current regs came into force.
