  1. I'm kind of relieved that the season's over. What a complete pile of wank most of it was. Dorne was so fucking awful!

It's true that books 4 and 5 can be long winded and have plotlines which advance slowly, but there's still some great stuff in there that they just completely missed out as a means to simplify or streamline things for TV, the majority of which were failures.

Do yourselves a favour and read the books. They aren't perfect, but there's significantly more depth/intrigue and less 'shirtless Ramsay beats Ironborn/Brienne leaves 5 seconds before candle gets lit' moments.

  2. If you can afford a somewhat decent PC, then there's next to no reason for getting an Xbox or PS4 unless your mates have one and a handful of console exclusives which are unlikely to be worth purchasing a console to play them. Most games worth your time these days will be released on PC, and normally 10 quid cheaper if you don't want to wait for the sales.

I just use Steam's Big Picture mode through my TV and an Xbox controller. Worked a treat for Dark Souls.

  3. That kinda sums up everything that's wrong with the new consoles at the moment.  Where's the new games?

Max profit for minimum effort. Half of these HD remakes are hilariously similar to the originals anyway, just slightly improved textures and lighting.

  4. I really need to pick up Batman Arkham Origins. I loved the first game so much I played through it three times which is a first for me. I completed the second one too, though I didn't like it as much. It didn't have the same creepy, claustrophobic vibe, and the enemies were unfairly hard I thought. Still good though.

Arkham Origins is good, albeit a bit less polished than the first two and it is the same map as Arkham City with a bit extra tacked on. I preferred the first one as well because it felt more guided and immersive, with each part being well designed. Going sandbox didn't make Arkham City automatically better I thought, and there were just way too many Riddler trophies etc. to superficially increase the longevity of the same. Arkham Asylum got the balance right a lot better.

I haven't finished Arkham Origins yet, but if you liked the first two games then it's worth picking up if it's cheap.

  5. Saints Row IV on PC. Loved Saints Row 3, but in this game there's no point driving about because you can run up buildings and jump really far.

Noticed a cheeky wee reference to Day of the Tentacle:

I've also got Dark Souls working with some mods, but the keyboard and mouse controls are utter shite. Tried using a PS2 controller but it only recognises either the analog stick or the D-Pad individually (meaning you can't move and select items at the same time), so I'll need to get an Xbox controller for it.

  6. I'm keen for tf2. What kinda spec is required for it?

    System requirements are further down.

I'll be honest - although the game came out in late 2007, the amount of new items/hats/weapons that have been added has resulted in it being quite unoptimised, so even if you easily meet those specs with a pc which is a few years old then you could see a drop in performance if there's a lot of things going on (which is most of the time as it's a tad chaotic).

There are however some community-created configuration files you can use to improve performance at the expense of graphics, so if you install it and are having trouble running it then give me a shout and hopefully I can point you in the right direction.

  7. I'm back on Team Fortress 2 at lunchtimes at work now.

    Jesus its brutal.

Good man. Everyone should try TF2 at least once (not the console versions as they haven't been updated in years). I've tried multiple times to drag myself away from it, but now I've passed 2100 hours :\

My favourite game of all time pretty much. It's free to play as well.

  8. Hmm not sure I agree but I only really play domination and S&D. Call of Duty is a game that falls apart in a team deathmatch setting because there is no sense of tactics involved it's just hare about and hope to not get shot in the back.

I find SMGs more balanced in this one than in previous ones and the choices like Sniper and shotgun are actually fairly viable for their purpose now as well. I.E proper shooting over long distance instead of 1 shotting in close range and the shotgun is better than SMG in a close setting like in a small room/corridor.

    Come back to TF2 bro

  9. I haven't even done the first "main" thieves guild mission yet. Just the extra jobs from Delvin and Vex. Just keep doing them and while you're doing them, steal EVERYTHING of any value you can on the jobs, as the guilds trader woman will buy most things and she has 1000 gold every day or so. So you can sell her heaps. Obviously I've also been spending a lot of gold, so I could have had more than 11k.

Are you actually finding stuff to buy with the gold? I ended up with about 450k with nothing I needed from a shop apart from spell books.

  10. I definitely preferred New Vegas over Fallout 3. It was a bug-ridden mess on launch but a lot of the issues have been patched now on the PC version with reduced loading times. Quite a few of the guys from Black Isle (original creators of Fallout/Fallout 2) work for Obsidian and were involved in New Vegas so a lot of the plot/factions follow the first games a lot more and Van Buren which was supposed to be Fallout 3 before Interplay went bust.

Fallout 3 had a bit too many subway stations and sewers for my liking and I found myself bored a lot of the time. New Vegas is definitely worth a proper playthrough. If you check out the wiki you will see just how massive the game is, with tons of possibilities and outcomes for each objective or mission depending on the skills you go with. There's also an ammo creation system so you can break down ammo you don't need and make them into bullets for the guns you have.

I think it might be. IGN didn't really have much details on it but this looks a lot better than I thought. Worth a punt?

I don't have a PS3 but it sounds pretty interesting.
