  1. As there is no motoring forum, I'm posting here. I suppose it could go in the sports forum but we all know that's actually just a football forum.

Was looking on the Knockhill website to see if they do any sort of track training, and they do: 109 gets you 25 laps with a tutor round the course, and you can bring your own car. They reckon it'll take you about an hour. Is this a decent price, and has anybody had experience with their tutors? Is there anywhere closer that will allow a beginner to get some track experience with a pro in the passenger seat?

I can take you along the boolie and back 25 times for 20.

  2. Just got his latest book "Crime" for a fiver delivered off ebay, even though it isn't released for a month, yuss.

    Any other fans?

Back of the net! I think his books are like good albums. I read them in rotation. My favorite is Maribu stork nightmares, you just gotta love the Strangs! Have you ready any Laura Hird books? I'd recommend Nail.

Just got Crime for a tenner delivered from Ebay, thanks for the tip!

  3. One of your favourites? Totally unique. Caught 'em Nov. last year at the Feeding Of The 5000 aftershow and party with Anima Mundi and Police Bastard, and will see 'em again Dec. 13th at Islington Academy with Flux Of Pink Indians and Subhumans.

Dunno if you've come across this RB vid online, but if not then do check it out: YouTube - False Promises Quite wonderful. Folks can also check 'em out on MySpace here: MySpace.com - Rubella Ballet - London, UK - www.myspace.com/rubellaballet

I checked out the you tube thing and found tons more vids by Rubella Ballet, Flux of Pink Indians etc. Good to see so much stuff like that on there! Been listening to side 1 of Conflict's increase the pressure recently, are you familiar wth that?

  4. Good CD Mark. Would any of the bands or yourself mind if I played some tracks on the radio shows I produce for Elgin Radio?

Hey there, of course not. Bash on.

I was brought up on tape too, I still have my Fostex E16, but its much faster working on a workstation. Cant beat tape for fatness and warmth though.

  5. As long as he tells you he's done it. I know that when I finally could afford the Waves platinum suite, I put every single thing I had ever recorded through it then sent the new masters to the respective owners free of charge.

There's nothing wrong with re-doing stuff with better quality equipment to get a higher quality end result. As long as you don't mess with the original artistic intentions of the composers.

If I think I can better something, I do it, then send it to the band. As I said earlier in this thread, I put everything I have into what I do, and if I think something can be improved, then I'll do it, at no extra cost to the band.

Some of the comments regarding this have been ridiculous, and not from anyone Ive done it for.

Also, I rarely do it, why would I spend time constantly re-mixing tracks when I have current projects to be working on?

For everyones information, this is the way I work - Ill agree the time and price that we'll work on the recording, then do the recordings over the agreed time. I'll give the band monitor mixes of the work we've done to listen to, then Ill mix the tracks. I'll then put the tracks online for the band to download and instruct any changes to the mixes, I'll then make the changes and upload the mixes again. I'll keep working like this untill the band are happy.

In my experience, a mix can rarely realize its full potential after a hard days recording.

  6. The compilation album will be album of the week on Original Fm's Sunday showcase this coming Sunday. Vic Galloway played just face it by the Fire and I from the CD last night.

Plenty more plays on the way up and down the country. Ill let you know who's playing what where.

    Mark.

  7. Your right and I have apologised. Don't know what I was thinking.

Probably the second time. We never payed the first time. We also never payed a third time because we thought first impressions do count.

    water under the bridge?

Sure. We all live and learn.

  8. The Band From U.N.C.L.E. This was at least 4 years ago. fuck knows. We were chatting away getting setup and you asked if we were practised enough and we said we usually practise once a week but we hadn't had a chance in about a month and then you said 'so your not tight then' and seemed to get a bit huffy as if you were thinking fuck sake under rehearsed cunts wasting my time ( maybe you always seem like that. I don't know). then you seemed to be paying more attention to your burger king than us for a bit (perhaps you were just hungry, we all are sometimes). but, like I said, it ended up fine in the end so I apologise for my rant earlier but first impressions do count. Especially in your line of work.

The Stooges did have a certain slop about them I reckon.

Was that the first or second time you came into record? You used to rehearse in the place next door and I used to hear you all the time. I doubt I would have said you were under-rehearsed when I was hearing you rehearse a few days a week?? I really liked your band, I came to see you at least twice as well. I think its totally unfair that you are saying that you ASSUMED what I was thinking!

In my job, its not first impressions that count, its the end result.

  9. we weren't so much under rehearsed as just sloppy, but the on purpose kind of sloppy. like the stooges who you compared us to in the pub afterwards.

to be fair it was before wed even plugged in when we were just chatting that you assumed we were under rehearsed.

I've been a bit over zealous with my mild rant about you earlier. we were happy enough with the end result at the time and your 'burger king' attitude did cease towards the end of the day. Maybe just one of those days.

p.s. I didn't say anything about stayovers tunes. I've never even heard them.

What was the name of your band? Milner was in Stayover. How could I have assumed you were under rehearsed? Whats a burger king attitude. You are confusing me. Also, the stooges were NOT sloppy! They were tight as fuck.

  10. We didn't ask/pay him to produce. we wanted him to record us as we were. we were fine with that. If he didn't want to record us because we'd make him look bad then he shouldn't have accepted our money.

As for polishing shits, I reckon you've tried it many a time.

    Cheers.

Thats not the point though is it? The point is, if you wanted something that would stand the test of time, you should have prepared yourselves properly by rehearsing and making sure you were tight. If I said the band were under-rehearsed, it must have been fairly shambolic. When somebody listens to a song thats badly played, they dont think ' the producer made a bad job of that', they think 'this band are shit'.

I wouldnt have even made an attempt at 'producing' your band if you were under-rehearsed and couldnt hold it together.

As for stayover, I think Bob was a fairly prolific writer, and the band were well rehearsed. I recently remixed one of the tracks becasue I know a lot more now than I did when I recorded it, and I was never happy with any of the mixes of those recordings. They're great songs, and deserved a better mix.

  11. Just my own, mainly electronic, 4 gigs in 10 years, thing that I keep chipping away with. Got a few things up, some with a bit of guitar.

    MySpace.com - Mondragon - Glasgow, UK - Breakbeat / Dub / Blues - www.myspace.com/vivaelmondragon

'Nuff about me, On topic, I was hoping that our ex-drummer 'Killer' Campsie would get through with MTO, but they never made it. Didn't put in those hours at Mono!

That sounds good, like zebedee tripping on the moon. Awesome picture you have up there too. Very sexual dude.

  12. We had the reverse Midas Touch, and there were 7 of us(for the last couple of years), which, contrary to popular belief, was not lucky.

At least we had the joys of those scenes you speak of, it was ace.

Mondragon has never been a crowd/human pleasing project, but I am trying to persuade some people to have one more tilt at a band, but we'll see if anything comes of it. If not my own cave industry (not advanced enough to be a cottage) will keep on, keeping on.

As long as humanity persists we are all immortal.

What is this Mondragon you speak of??

  13. Ah, the joy of the Hospitality/Backstage bogs, seriously, I would't go unless I could snaffle a pass now.

Unfortunately it was also the peak of the Fox, but we got a pretty full tent up against New Order and James Brown, and it was nice weather. Ultimately, though, we couldn't promote our way out of a wet, disintegrating, paper bag, and I think whichever bits of the 'industry' we came into contact with could tell that straight away.

The Fox were a brilliant bands, especially in the great traditional rock n roll sense. Can you imagine the Happy Mondays, Sex Pistols, Jimi Hendrix or whoever trying to promote themselves?

I can remember a few times in Drummonds seeing the the Fox, ram packed, everyone up on the tables going mentol, the whole place in a state of complete euphoria!

  14. I wouldn't waste your time with the DVD. Besides Dick Lucas' amusing intro it really lacks any substance and if certainly wouldn't turn anyone onto anarcho punk.

Interestingly, Amebix also appear to have had many problems over rights with Southern Records, and seem to have rectified this now in light of the death of John Loder. I just wonder how quick it was before they jumped on his grave though...

So much for the punk ideals eh?!

  15. so no download link then?

i read on one of the band's who's on it's myspace that it would be from the end of may??

    any info? cheers!

If you have a look on the jukebox you'll see the albums there, just waiting for the files to be linked to the player, and that should happen any day now.

  16. He's not the producer though, He's the engineer. He has every right to offer suggestions but at the end of the day it's up to the band. Demanding someone comes back to re-record a part is crossing a line. Also telling a band they are under-rehearsed is out of line as they are paying him to record him.

I thought his attitude stunk of jizz and burger king when I recorded with him years ago.

What line is it crossing to ask a band to come back in and re-record a guitar part free of charge? Enlighten me please.

  17. Hey thanks for posting that. Awesome news regarding the reissue of both If They Treat You Like Shit... and In Nomine Patri. Overground Recs has released many fine anarcho collections of late - from The System, Icon A.D., The Mob, The Disrupters, The Cravats, and much more recently Legion Of Parasites. Yes great news indeed. For more information about these releases visit www.overgroundrecords.co.uk

Have ya read The Day The Country Died or seen Toxic Waste man Roy Wallace's movie of the same name? The book is a must read, though gotta say that I found the DVD somewhat disappointing.

Just snuck a peak at Nation On Fire, and shit ya got Rubella Ballet's Peel session from'83, The Mob's last show '83, The Snipers, Part 1, and much much more.

Hey there. I think what Iain was saying was that the album WAS NOT going to be re-released!

Ive read the day the country died, Ive not seen the dvd though, will need to check that out. Also get onto Nation on fire for the rubella ballet peel session!

  18. I made contact on the Alternative's myspace page. I thought it was Rodney running it but its not, its Iain who was in Influx. Heres a bit of the reply - (hes talking about the Alternative's album) -

Hi Mark, Sorry it's not Rodney who runs the site but myself Iain Influx - Ex guitarist with the band in 85-86. Speak with Rodney a lot and given him a load of old demo's and stuff that he has mis laid over the years.

Was up at Linds funeral where I handed him stuff from Overground records who has re mastered the L.P and single for a re-release last year. However Southern records got involved with rights to the artwork from the single saying it was G's artwork from Crass. Not how Jaa see's this and was not to pleased when I showed him the letters claiming this. Unfortunatly since John Loader passed away a new girl (Helen shodenbrooke)has taken over the running of all the crass and Corpus christi stuff and recons they own the rights to the music releases.

In 2006 myself and Rice wrote for a book called the day the country died and Rodney done the DVD interview for the DVD by the same name.

He also recommended this site which has TONS of stuff to download too! - NATION ON FIRE: ONSLAUGHT HARD CORE PUNK DEMOS 1983 TO 1984

  19. Caught Chips with Slaughterhouse Psychos Aug. '88. Would interview the band too.

Hoping someone will see fit to reissue full length If They Treat You Like Shit - Act Like Manure.

And if folks are so inclined, then they can check out Alternative here: MySpace.com - ALTERNATIVE - 40 - Male - Offical Site, UK - www.myspace.com/alter80

And talking of Scottish anarcho punks of yesteryear, look out for discog CD Axis Of Ascendancy from the mighty A.O.A. released June 21st. For more information visit MySpace.com - A.O.A. (ALL OUT ATTACK) - LOANHEAD/EDINBURGH, Scotland - Punk / Thrash / Experimental - www.myspace.com/alloutaudio

Have you kept in touch with many folks from this period? Perhaps from Aberdeen?

Ive only lived in Aberdeen for 10 years or so. I lived in Kirkcaldy, then Dunfermline, then all over the place before coming here. The act like shit album was the one RR gave me. I still sometimes talk to Neil from the band, but that about it. I met a girl at the Moorings last week called Melina, who new the station in Gateshead and Sned and them lot though.
