  1. I'd agree with Ross Noble, have seen him at the music hall twice now and he is extremely funny (and the dvds are great)

Dave Gorman's good too, see if you can get his googlewhack dvd (i had it and lent it to someone at work who then retired without returning it  )

As for TV, Arrested Development is really funny and worth watching

  2. I've been roped into taking my 8-year-old daughter and her friend to see this today.

    Two questions...

    1. Is it really that bad - should I take my PSP & headphones?

    2. Is their any riding in it? - I sincerely hope not, as these are impresionable kids o_O

    1. Its not bad, not great either though, it entertains you and is instantly forgettable, has some good one-liners, and only one thing that i did hate (one of the actresses was just plain awful)

    2. Nah, just some kissing, it's a PG

  3. Well, i went to see the film (based on the trailer which looked funny) and i liked it. Its not oscar material or anything, just a film that makes you smile.

I don't get why people just dismiss films off hand as ergh a chick flick etc, i love movies and am willing to go see things before making a judgement. (which is why i have seen some awful movies as well as some great ones)

  4. It's better than nothing, I agree, but when paying for an 8meg connection it seems a bit of a waste. Although saying that it costs the same as some 1meg connections, so fair doos.

It's miles better than what i'm getting right now. (on a 8MB line, capable of 5.5MBish)

Download Speed: 247 kbps (30.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 102 kbps (12.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Not convinced Eclipse is a good deal though, anyone had any experience with NewNet?

  5. Watched last nights episode and.... is it just me or is Series 3 starting to drag on a bit? I'm just a wee bit bored and tired of all the red herrings, surprises and plot twists that are happening along the way.

It's not just you. I wasn't that fussed with last nights episode and i dunno, its kinda lost its appeal. Maybe when we get to see more of the characters we know again (the beach ones) i might get back into it?

I prefer Heroes at the moment, it reminds me of what Lost used to be like.

  6. What kind of peak speeds do you get? It sounds a very similar product to what i'm on at the moment but i'm getting throttled to death because i'm low level priority traffic or something? Don't want to move and find its the same there.

(checked out the eclipse user forum on thinkbroadband and it wasn't sounding good)

  7. Not true, I'm with Eclipse. I get 8meg with no cap and it costs me 15 per month + VAT.

It's absolutely great, the customer service is awesome too.

    Where'd you get that?

I'm am seriously fed up with my ISP, i'm stuck on 100kbps speed during peak times cos they've screwed something up (for all customers on my package) and seem very hesitant to fix it or even tell us whats wrong.

    I need to move now.

  8. Ah, the speeds i mentioned earlier weren't download/transfer speeds, they were my connection speeds, this is my speedtest results from earlier

Date of Speed Test: 2007-01-31 19:57:57

Download Speed: 39 kbps (4.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 68 kbps (8.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

(told you i was rubbish at explaining myself)

It's perked up a bit now though (getting Download Speed: 175 kbps (21.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 83 kbps (10.4 KB/sec transfer rate))

I normally get between 3MB and 5MB, so this is a bit slower.

  9. Nothing wrong with that - you have 8MB ADSL.

If BT are to be believed they are upgrading all the Aberdeen exchanges on the 1st of February to deal with the ADSL capacity problems. So maybe things will improve soon...

I'm getting crappy speeds as well if that makes you feel any better.

I meant that there was definitely something wrong with my speeds as i sync as high as you can on 8mb (sorry rubbish at explaining things)

The thing that bugs me is all the BT blurbs say that with 8mb, speeds of 400kbps and above are considered acceptable, i'm way below that level and yet i still can't raise a fault

  10. I'm not having much luck with my speeds lately, when i stuck on the PC this evening i got the grand old speeds of 39kbps down and 68kbps up. (i sync at 8128/448, so something is definitely wrong)

I tried to raise a fault with my isp and there automatic fault reporter said that it was all down

to my exchange so tough, then it closed my fault report. I know that the denburn exchange is red but surely the speeds shouldn't be that bad.

Is anyone else on the Denburn exchange and are you facing speeds like this?

  11. I've switched to firefox and i'm liking it (but still have to use ie every so often).

However, I did notice that i can't hover over posts in firefox (to see what they say without having to open them) like i used to be able to in IE which is a bit annoying.

    Any other firefoxers noticed that?

  12. Ok, has anyone else had this problem?

I upgraded to IE7 and i was playing around with the tabs, i decided to try and open a link in a new tab and i couldn't. The right click menu just didn't have the option available (only open in new window which kinda defeats the purpose of tabs).

Last night i discovered that my google toolbar somehow disables this option, i hid the toolbar and my right click now says open in new tab.

I like my google toolbar and don't want to get rid of it, but i want to open links in new tabs.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there another way of opening links? Is firefox an option (or does it have the toolbar quirk)?

  13. Not sure exactly when the BBC are showing it, but if you have Sky, the SciFi channel start showing it on the 19th February and i think i read somewhere that the BBC will show it after them?

  14. Vanished was about a senators wife who went missing, they made 14 or so episodes and it was cancelled, it was a bit hit and miss, but it kept you interested (kinda turned into Alias near the end) Didn't really have any known actors in it, had a wifie from ER and a bloke from Home and Away.

Smith was about a gang of robbers led by Ray Liotta. It got cancelled after 3 episodes (4 to 7 were released online later), I will admit 2 and 3 were a bit slow but it showed promise and 4 - 7 were great. There's a synopsis of the episodes they didn't get to make and it looked like it could have been really good. It's probably best if you don't watch it cos you'll just end up cursing the stupid networks who insist on cancelling shows before they get a chance :swearing:

Oh and Heroes, I knew that there was no more til the end of January, and episode 10 ended without a huge "what happens next moment", but I couldn't stop myself from watching 11 and I really wish I hadn't, I need to know what happens next. I've fallen in love with the program (especially Hiro)

If they cancel this show there will be war!

  15. Yeah, i stumbled across this the other week and i'm really enjoying it. Just watched ep 6 and i think it just keeps getting better. It's one of those rare programs that makes me want to see the next ep the second it finishes.

  16. Not in any order but my favourite films of the year so far are...

    A Scanner Darkly

    Snakes on a Plane

    Casino Royale

    Brick

    Walk the Line

    Running Scared

    The Departed

    Superman Returns

    Pirates: Dead Mans Chest

    Lucky Number Slevin and

    Severance

  17. Even though Au Revoir Simone said their name about 10 times i didn't have a clue what it was still i saw it at the merch stand, thought they were ok, bit samey though

The Blood Arm were entertaining, the buttery story was a bit odd though

And, the Scientists were great, loved the encore.

Bad points? The tall bloke who decided that he was going to stand in front of me and then constantly move around so every time i moved to see past him, he moved in front of me again.

And i agree about the sound.

  18. How does it compare to Infernal Affairs (of which it is a remake)?

It has the same basic plot, and if you've seen Infernal Affairs you will know what's going to happen throughout the film. However, like i said earlier, i didn't sit there thinking "the original did it better". The Departed is a really good film which kept me entertained even though i knew the story.

I still prefer Infernal Affairs (but i've loved the film for ages so could be biased).

I wouldn't really call it a remake, they just made a film based on the same plot, i realise i'm not explaining this well, but go see the film, you'll see what i mean.

  19. Hmm, not sure it was that great a movie, more of a 5/10 perhaps? I did enjoy it but there's been heaps of better movies this year (e.g. Superman Returns, A Scanner Darkly, The Departed)

The film had its good points but overall i just expected more, it was lacking something (not sure what though).

Nah, think Inside Man is the best Clive Owen film this year (so far)

  20. I saw it last week, thought it was really good. I love the film its based on and was worried that i'd sit there going "they did it better in the original" but i didn't. Even though i knew more or less what was going to happen i really enjoyed the film.

The only thing that annoyed me was Matt Damon's accent :p

Wasn't Matt Damon using his real accent, thought i read that somewhere?
