  1. Staten Island / Record Shop (not Staten Islan)

Damn right... I did exactly the same both times.... nothing to see in Staten Island.

Not strictly true' date=' there's a lovely little museum of Tibetan art housed in a replica temple built in someone's garden.

    [url']http://www.tibetanmuseum.org/

Means a half hour bus trip and a wander up a suburban side street but it's a lovely little oasis compared to the concrete pit that is the Staten Island ferry terminus/bus station

And for a great record shop try Downtown Music Gallery if you haven't already been - haven't visited since they moved to 342 Bowery [between E. 2nd & E. 3rd Streets] from a tiny basement on E5thSt but used to be a great place to spend a wet afternoon listening to great sounds

Wish I was there. Have a great time.

  2. so much for the conspiracy theories, what about the music?

EDIT: Coming to think of it' date=' Russell has done a fantastic job with this series.

    ...

It's a massive juggling act and a massive accomplishment.

    [/quote']

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's the (less than incidental) music that is the weak point ? Too obvious and intrusive, especially the "romantic" themes ?

  3. not being cheeky but........ what shows do you put on' date=' ive never heard of you doing anything[/quote']

A search for "interesting music" on the Gig & Event Announcements forum comes up with 30 threads (as of 19:30 sunday 5th June) ...

All the gigs I've managed to catch have lived up to the name "Interesting", and it's no doubt a labour of love  for Mike, Jenny, Graeme and co.

AMT on Monday @ The Tunnels :woohoo: and lots more damn fine stuff to come

  4. sinister pop music can only go so far before making one feel uneasy and dubious.

    .. and what's wrong with that 8o ?

UPDATE: What I meant by that was - and this is just a general observation rather than having a dig at your viewpoint -isn't it interesting to have something challenging to listen to that makes you feel "uneasy and dubious" rather than safe, cosy, and complacent?

I thought Bikini Atoll were great and energetic and conveyed real emotion and enjoyment of the music, the local boys Copy_haho done good, but Picastro had something particularly special and fragile. Absolutely Beautiful. And you can quote me on that.

Cheers Mike, Jenny and co. A cracking show.

  5. that was so funny. neil in a suit is like a kid at a wedding.

Can you say that? What if someone reads your post and decides not to invite Neil to a wedding in case he eats too much ice-cream, runs round like he's got ADHD, and throws up on Great Auntie Morag? He could sue you for 100s in lost free food & drink. Opinions - can't have them on a forum :nono:

Now can someone explain this "thread" thing again: I've got as far as getting my USB cable through the eye of this needle...
