would you want one of these ? - assuming you had 4k to spare of course ...
Not yet Windows compatible.

Edgy?
So it's Northern, and it's Jazz, but where's the "Edge" ? (an' a dinna mean 'at Irish mannie ...)

I was very disappointed with Casa Gabriele. Tried it for the first time a couple of months ago as the brother-in-law is a fussy eater and Italian food is about the only option. Maybe it's better in the evenings, but lunchtime had a fairly limited menu as I recall, including the absolute worst risotto I've ever had. BIL thought his pasta was fab though ?(
Guess I'm spoiled by authentic Italian home-cooking from Mr Balvack's side of the family...

The brochure for this years Sound Festival dropped through the door this morning. Lots of good stuff coming up ...

The Phantom Band: kindred spirits
"Scottish art-rock six-piece the Phantom Band concoct a bewitching mix of gothic folk, krautrock, doo-wop and electro. They are scarily good"

Hope to see some people there, kicks off about 8ish.
If we can find out where "there" is, me and Mr B are hoping to make it along.
(dreaded lurgy permitting...)
Update. Doh ... calendar says it's Drummonds. This cold has definitely killed off some of the more useful brain cells ...

It's a'right. Ticketbaster-d still had tix after all.

Hi, would appreciate if anyone has a spare ticket for Neil Young on 24th June that they would be willing to sell (standing preferred). I stupidly assumed my brother would already have one, so forgot to mention the gig to him till it was sold out
-
Great, I'll be able to come along to this. Shame Mr Balvack has to work that night though.
-
And that pretty much sums it up.
Music to make love to !

On a similar note, it looks like it'll be a Balvack vs Matricarians fight to the death
Brother Alan, surely you've realised by now that's not how the cult works:bat:
We assimilate by pacific stealth, nothing as strenuous as fighting
So that's sorted then: it'll be the Matricarian Cult of Balvack.
-
And what sort of time would that all be kicking off then, sir ?
-
Yep, wonderful stuff. Well done Bill and all involved. And thanks to Matricarians for the presents!
-
Maybe that's how Seb and Boris are going to get one up on the Chinese Olympics extravanganza: London 2012 - the world's end.....
-
.....and there will be presents!!!....and probably some guitar vandalism......!
Here's a link to Matricarians....
MySpace.com - Matricarians - Folk / Experimental / Psychedelic - www.myspace.com/matricarians
Whoo ! We're hoping to make it along. Circuit bending, guitar vandalism, and the presents of the Matricarians ... what more could we ask for ?!
"Circumstance radio edit" is lovely.

This show will now be downstairs in The Lounge.
Does that mean there'll be additional percussion throughout (crashing glasses, ringing tills, chatting bar-staff) then?

"Musical tastes and personality type are closely related, according to a study of more than 36,000 people from around the world." There's not much difference between classical and metal fans apparently. More info here

CMN finally got round to sending out the info to their mailing list. Animated version of the poster is available here

ancient history
UK - "She Loves You" by some young pop combo called "The Beatles". That was so long ago I suspect no-one has heard of them these days.
US - "Blue Velvet" by Bobby Vinton. That would explain the interest in David Lynch movies then ...

Bugger
I just almost peed my pants rereading this... I saw Faust last week and Jean-Herv sent his apologies about the cancellation.Any reason why?

No publicity?
If it's only just over a month until the Lemon Tree re-opens, I would have expected some sort of publicity to announce the fact, or is their target audience only people who read The Stage?
'Duncan Hendry, chief executive of APA, said: The Welcome Back Weekend will do exactly what it says on the tin. We want to get people back into the venue who used to be regulars there and work at drawing in new audiences as well. '
Not if folk don't know that it's re-opened they won't. Or have I missed something?

A range of tastes ...
Robert Fripp by Eric Tamm isn't exactly a biography, but interesting stuff - unless you've absolutely no interest in Crimson or Guitar Craft. Avilable online here
Miles Davis Autobiography
More a history than a biography Long Strange Trip

Thought this thread was referring to BC's famous export.
This lot sound like an interesting alternative the political parties over here.

Here's one song from Human Bell's set from the Tunnel gig
Cool video. It feels much more atmospheric than being there actually was. Have to agree with "His Majesty" on the evening: we sat through the whole MM set hoping for something more interesting and less self-indulgent to happen. We loved the Cynics orchestra though, shame they didn't get a sound-check 'cos their egos aren't as big as other folks. o_O
BTW, anyone need any swaps on panini stickers from the 80s? I thought I was getting some gooey Italian sandwiches to go with the CDs

Had lunch there today with Mr B. Very tasty and much nicer to have the Korean beef (bulgoki?) served on a sizzle plate rather than the polystyrene take-away boxes of the market days...
