  1. The fact they take their religion from The Book of Mormon, a book which states "Jews are wicked" and describes the Native American race as "a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations."

Book of Mormon is a strange one, no arguing with that!

They also oppose Abortion and view Homosexuality as a 'problem'. They also take the Bible as the word of God and some of the stuff in there when you actually read through it is unbelivably brutal.

Thing is, if you take it as the word of God, then you accept it all. It's not logically acceptable to say "this is the divine word of God...but we only endorse the bits we like".

Have you read the whole Bible?

  2. I resent bands who pretend to be actually leaving. Worst offender; Nick Cave, who went offstage after an hour of their Glasgow Academy set, saying "goodnight, thanks very much, etc". Only to subsequently return for a further hour of music. What's the point in that?

It was a brilliant gig though.

  3. How depressing that channel 4's desperation for viewers means that, once again, we're subjected to two astonishingly stereotyped and irksome gay men. A flapping, mincing, squealing Glaswegian, and a slimy, buff, self-professed "sexual terrorist". Awful.

In the interests of balance, the only contestants I considered remotely likeable, thus far, were Glynn and Dawn.

  4. I prefer Uncut to Mojo. Mojo is a bit too "old man" for me, invariably focusing on the Kinks/the Jam/the Pistols/Dylan in a "things were better in my day, young feller" kind of way.

  5. Q magazine is getting worser and worser. Two examples from latest edition:

Dirty Pretty Things as "Ones to watch", i.e. an up and coming new band to look out for. I think most other media sources picked up on this, what, 3 months ago?

New Chili Peppers album gets 5 stars. I haven't even heard it yet, and I know it's not a 5-star album.

  6. I find myself in agreement with a lot of what the original poster says. I reckon a lot of the angst and sorrow in modern music is based on expectations rather than experience, i.e. people write according to their genre rather than any real observation or experience.

everyones experience of life is not 'totally brilliant' nor is it about 'demons, corpses and evil'. There should be more honesty in lyrics.

I agree with this too. But having said that, I find nothing more tedious than lyrics like "I had a fag, I went clubbing, then I had a cup of tea and went to bed". Are there no lyricists left who deal with bigger issues and greater themes, with intellect and incision?
