  1. Weren't you involved in the band managing lark a while back?

Anyway - they're not just a "small local band"' date=' they're ridiculously ambitious, they're gaining shitloads of gigging experience pretty quickly, they'll take bookings anywhere (not a bad thing) and they're generally aiming to go somewhere. They're also very professional about the way they do things - if they weren't, we wouldn't have offered them a chance to play the Tsunami/Band Aid gig at Moshulu. Considering they're hardly long term professionals on the Aberdeen gigging scene, I'd say that was a pretty big compliment to their abilities at this stage.

As I've said earlier in this thread - there's nothing wrong whatsoever with having a manager at this level, it means they're left to play the music without the hassles of organising the band - and simply by having a manager, more doors are likely to be opened as a result of it - heck, from a personal level, if someone's band manager contacted me, I'd be impressed solely because they had the idea of getting someone to manage their affairs - and first impressions count for a hell of a lot in the music industry, don't they?[/quote']

Thanks for your comments. I'm deeply appreciative and moved by your words of support.

Managing, hum........ my take so far..

The thing is I've known the bassist for neigh on 2 years as he lives 3 doors down from my house.

I watched the band working hard with jamming, struggling to get transport, booking gigs, etc and basically they love music so much they will hit a brick wall running each time until there is some breakage to the wall.simply let them through it to the other side.called success.

The first time I stepped in to help was to get them a place to jam. Its was my garage but my neighbour wasn't keen on it and outta respect I went in search again, and found through a friend of mine a place they could jam without any worries. Then I sorted out some in-band issues and found that more and more I was getting involved (or dragged in from other peoples perspective) and because they are great guys with a dream, I made the move on the day of my dad's funeral ..

    - that of approaching them with the idea of me being a manager to help them with all the issues that cover being in a band, i.e. transport, money, bookings, sounds, writing, demos, contacts, image, etc.

I knew I was going into the deep end here, but I believe that if you've a dream it helps if someone can assist ya in achieving it. My take on that is, they have a dream to make it...nothing wrong with that, as there isn't a band, actor, singer, etc who doesn't want and have the taste for success. Its human nature to want to do what you love and be a success at it.

I want to help them get a full crack at it. I can give 110% and this way if by a certain set time theyve not made it, then at least when they hit my age of 40+, they wont be thinking, I wish I would of done this, or tried that.

Now, Im not reliving a dream. Im not trying to make a success for myself that some might think got lost in my youth. Im trying to help them achieve their dream. Simple as that.

If that makes some here on this thread suspect; then I feel sorry for ya, you obviously dont get it.

Its not about just the music all of the time, its about people trying to achieve their own personal goal.

If that means that my husband and myself can get them along and assist them closer to this dream, then at the end of the day at least someone gave them a helping hand and was there to give support, advice and assistanceso if they dont make it, all 4 know deep down inside that every stone WAS unturned, ever avenue travelled and all dreams captured and realised to their fullestthen they can move on with their lives with the knowledge they gave it their all.

Nothing wrong in having someone believe in ya.

    Take care,

  2. Yes. Too much effort.

I'm not even going to look at the website.

Fair enough' date=' you're allowed to like your own band to an extent, but wearing your own bands T-Shirt when you're playing a gig is a sin. A horrible sin.

The singer does this funny pigeon thing on stage with his head.

The manager thing is just pointless. What managing do a small local band need? And if they really needed managing, surely someone who actually knows how to manage a band would be better fitted to the job.

I'm trying to be as unoffensive as possible, but its really difficult. Watching this band on stage made me want to get hideously drunk.

Each to their own etc. but I really can't stand it. If more effort was put into making the music sound good as opposed to self-promotion (on the back of nothing special) it would be a much better way of spending time.[/quote']

well, at least we made ya feel something ;oP

Seriously, its personal taste and with more bookings coming in daily for the band there is some who do like our sounds.

Its to be expected that there will be some who just plain don't like the band. Fair do. Got no jest with that.

Constructive comments however wouldn't go amiss, but that's being hopeful I guess. hehe

Nevermind, my mamma told me you can't please them all, all of the time and too if I didn't have anything nice to say about someone or something, just not to say anything at all....and with that I'm off. hehe

Take care all, and don't change a thing

  3. and is it?

you cant register a name as yours if its already taken

Yes its registered at Bandname.com and has been entered into the World Music Database.

I'm copyrighting all material and that is going to the London office.

So' date=' whomever you speak of (can you point me towards them), they unfortunately didn't get in there quick enough and get registered, so now they'd either have to take us to court (at their expense) or buy us out (name wise).

Take care and have a brill weekend,

  4. Thanks

I've been and seen what your on about.

I like the whole idea of how the menu sits.

I'll probably have a problem with that, as I said, I've paid for this site of a year so I'm stuck with the Flash programme, specially on things like the menu and how it sits, but I can change the menu to give things more cohesion.

Again, thanks for the input and showing me an example.

It all helps and is a learning curve.

    Have a fab weekend,

    Bobbie

    See above for website :)
  5. ah how sweet

    your a star.

Na, I'm not letting it get me down, I'm listening and taking it all in and with some stuff I've had said I'm taking serious, other stuff has only one place....the bin of my mind. hehe

Thanks for caring and showing support.

take care and have a brill weekend,

    Bobbie

haha dont let it get to you guys' date=' youve got a very good start there keep it up, i heard a lot of good things about the band so keep going and dont let the critism slow you down.[/quote']
  6. okay finally something to work with

thanks for your input and sorry it tired ya xx

I'll get this down, and I'll get it right thanks to constructive comments.

I get what your meaning now, so thanks for the extra work........

    hehe

again, its great to have someone finally let me know what it is with the site, since I've paid for a year, I'm stuck with the Flash, but the other stuff I can work upon and iron out all the kinks.

    Thanks,

    Bobbie

Firstly' date=' if the band wants to be taken seriously online they should splash out for a url like "identityrock.com" or "identitymusic.com" or whatever. It looks more professional than [url']http://myidentity.moonfruit.com/

Second, why do they have all those links on the first page? They really look ugly! People have JUST arrived on the site that LAST thing you want them doing is going elsewhere before they've even entered your site. Don't confused people, give them a simple choice.

Enter is that choice. It is the only choice.

    Once in the site:

The marquee text just looks naff in my opinion, by that I mean, the bit with the scrolling gig date across the top of the page? Lose it. Put the gig info someplace else.

The left hand side of the page is aligned strangely. The menu part of the page seems to be sitting further left that the page header. That doesn't look good. Make clean lines.

The band name "Identity" has been repeated twice at the top of the page in different fonts. Why? An official letter from a company wouldn't have two seperate logos in the header. Same principle - I've never seen a top quality design that looked like that.

The band photos aren't professional and therefore make the band look amateurish, and furthermore they are different sizes making the whole thing look unplanned and haphazard.

The link on the main page back to the splash page (the one with all the ugly banner ads) serves no purpose. Lose it.

The photos page would look okay if it weren't for the silly face in the corner of the screen and the link that said "buy a demo CD". Why would people want to buy a CD based on the band's photographs? This is poor logic and again comes across as unplanned.

    The gigs page is fine.

Again with the links page there are banners which aren't my cup of tea, but it's more acceptable here. I don't understand the skull thing with the swirly envelope though. I mean, this is what I'm talking about in terms of cohesion. None of these elements particularly seem to go together, it's just like they've been slapped down on a page with little pre-planning.

On the bio page there are too many elements and the band being shot as a four piece, oh, plus that other guy... sort that out too. It's not good. You need a group photo of the whole band. Until you get a photo like that, you're better leaving it out.

Anyway, I could go on, but I'm tired of typing now so I hope some of that helps.

  7. Jeepers

    Um, self promotion. hehe

    Okay, anyone else?

I'll stand against a wall now, and if anyone wants a pop, carry on I'm obviously game. hehe

    take care,

    Bobbie

why have you put identity@kef with towers of london as the title

when its towers of london @kef

    being supported by identity

they say headlining band for a reason

(i have nothing else to do sorry)

  8. okay

    I get your drift.

get it more attractive to the eyes to lessen the boredom

and get rid of the current bio

Okay, thanks for the look in and comments.

Glad someone had a laugh, after today I might find the gas oven attractive. :D:help::gringo:

    Not really but tempting.

    take care,

    Bobbie

haha sorry this made me laugh' date='

"1. First album/track you bought? - Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish."

i duno the website is pretty boring i think, the music isnt bad at all tho so thats the main thing, dont listen to danny doubt hes a twat anyway hehe.

i dunno try to make it a bit more attractive to the eyes i was bored of looking at that site within about 30 seconds and as stuart says the bio is awful.

but hey its a start and thats the main thing guys.[/quote']

  9. I like it

Can you tell me if its the Flash that is the problem.

I'm asking, because its in the best interests that I do so I can perhaps alter, apply suggestions to make things, like the website, bring the guys into a better light. :D

  10. Honest question?

Can you give me an example of a slick, good music website?

As to the query by stuartmaxwell , I've not managed long in the field of music, however I've managed top of my league in my own arena, that being high profile criminal cases as a profiler.

    I know.

This is different, ever so slightly.

But the same applies in this field. Management is management.

Its hard at times as in most management jobs, its a breeze in other areas.

I'm no fool nor do I suffer them, but I know the basics and have the belief, stamina and patience.

Is there anything I left out? :D

    IDENTITY

    http://myidentity.moonfruit.com

It doesn't matter who she's managed before' date=' you have to start somewhere, I hadn't really managed anyone before Jo and its worked out OK for us. If Cloud, as the promoter, thisks it was better to deal with their manager then it obviously is the right thing to do, though I do agree with the website and bio thing etc, but maybe that'll come with time, they haven't been going long and a slick, good website can cost.

    Cheers

    Stuart[/quote']

  11. thanks ;)

you hit the nail on the head, that's my remit -- to free up the worries that come with this industry. At the end of the day, the music is what's important with all bands and if they've the time to enjoy their gigs, pre and post........then they'll continue to enjoy the music and won't get too tainted by the side of things I've to do --- the industry/business.

So, no I don't think its a bad thing to be able to chill whilst someone else does the graft.

    Take care,

    Bobbie

To tell a story' date=' it actually helped them from my perspective - she was discussing future gigs with us while the band was off doing other stuff, surely it's not a bad thing for a band to be able to chill out after playing and not have to think about future gigs at that moment in time?[/quote']
  12. Boy, I'd certainly be old in that group of gals

Phew, the guys there would of certainly had their pick of the crop out of that percentage. LOL

Shush, the lads from IDENTITY might find out and sneak down there, and I'd never see them again. :nono::D

Nice pic by the way Ross. ;)
