I've got anolder one (late 90's early 00's?). I like it. The strat style shaping at the back is nice for a fat bastard like me, fits nicer.
I got it second hand though. It has Lace Sensor pick ups which are a bit of an aquired taste.
I had a look/play of one of the new ones (in Bruce Millers) a while back. I liked the sunburst and the Noiseless/S1 switching sounded great but wasn't sure about the neck, didn't 'feel' that great to me. Plus I thought the headstock looked a bit 'cheap'.
Oh and they are a bit pricey too. Don't know if they are twice as good as a US standard.
I still fancy one of those QMT twin humbucker ones though!

Decade covers a lot of bases but hand on heart I'd probably have to go for 'Tonights The Night'.
-
Locust Abortion Technican my favourite by far (yup, 22 going 23 especially).
Not heard it for years but I also remember liking Rembrandt Pussyhorse as well.
Never really got into Hairway or anything else afterwards. I kinda went off the Buttholes after hearing the tales from Blast First staff about their 'antics' to try and get more money. Not big or clever (wooh, freudian slip I typed 'cleaver' first. Wrong coz I heard it was a hammer!)

To be honest I'm not quite sure what RF is on about re. GPM. Sure they are different (no point in releasing the same thing twice). It made me go back and pick up a couple Palace albums I didn't have to make an original GPM cd.
But in re-reading the post I would have to admit that I should have started off with the BPB album to start with is 'I See A Darkness', no doubt about it.
And if I recall 1-Up has it on special offer at the moment.
The Palace stuff is different from BPB. Seems to me that in adopting the new persona he threw off his inhibitions and allowed himself just to be. His vocals seems to have 'improved ' immeasurably since.

you'll have to take out a mortgage for his back catalogue!
master and everyone & I see a darkness are a good place to start
(Cue Neill B to tell us what to get "first" (as "everything" will be the ultimate answer!))
Err' date=' not quite!
I always recommend that Blue Lotus Feet (as you know) and Greatest Palace Music.
I'll admit I do have a hell of a lot of the early Palace stuff. I even have the continental op Slitch Music dvd/cd thang!
Viva Lost Blues is probably the best but Lost Blues, Joya and Arise Therefore also worth checking out.
The most comprehensive discography I've seen is here:
[url']http://users.bart.nl/%7Eljmeijer/oldham/
And yeah they can be decidely lo-fi, the more so the earlier you get...
Oh and if you feel the urge there is a french site which has lyrics/tab for most things which is here:
http://www.palace.free.fr/Tabs.htm
Word is that he's got a new album due out in 'the fall'.

Must admit only watched it the other week coz we are Buffy geeks and it had Giles on it.
I was actually impressed that it was as good.
Watched another couple of episodes since and yeah I like it.
Nice to see it updated so well...
-
I am not sure when it's being aired' date=' but keep yer eyes peeled, fans won't be dissapointed, I am sure.[/quote']
Cool.
Their gothic tales of Skooby Doo made me laugh so much the missus came running in to the room as she thought I was having a heart attack or something.
-
I would have bought a CD by them but nobody seemed to be selling any.
Aye, me too.
I was looking around town beforehand and 1-Up has one...
-
ANyone go tot his last night?
I went last night.
Tunng were pretty good.
Fraid to say I left the back of ten midway through Buck.
There's only so much you can take of a canadian doing a mix version of early Tom Waits...
-
the proper name for them is "gonks"
With such encylcopeadic knowledge that MA must now be a dead cert....
-

May be Will can comment on the rumours of recordings of the rehersals in yesterday's Guardian.

Punk as an ideology has morphed into political rules based conformist (conforming by predictable non conforming) pile of poo. Its a hypocritical Joke.
Punk as an artform or form of expression is still around thankfully. Scarce but still pops up with different levels of subversiveness' date=' individualism and raw creativity in the most unexpected places. The place you'll never find it is at ''punk'' gig however. Thats become like one of those Elvis tribute things. Harmless retro fun but not punk at all.
On balance Id say punk as what it stood for in 1976 is well and truly dead and buried.
Some brilliant music happened but erm, move on.....
Some of the music is good however.[/quote']
That's more like it...
-
Theres still tons of punks. doing the same thing they did years ago. except' date=' now, they KEEP it underground, cos they learnt from the last lots mistakes.[/quote']
Then your definition of punk must be completely different from mine.
I don't recognise what I perceive what your definition of punk as being real punk. But hey you were born years after the fact so your perspective is different.

Mainstream 70's kings road peacock postcard punk yes....
See I was meaning punk as in Punk.
Nice Crass quote though.
eee, I can remember mail ordering feeding of the 5000 from Small Wonder, those were the days....

so if you don't like the music of "the times" you're automatically sad?
its not acceptable to like "classic" or "old" music??
fuck off.
Nope. If you are trying to be something that is out of time (i.e. a Ted in the 70's or a punk nowadays) then I find that a bit sad.
Who said anything about liking any music being acceptable or not?
Stop looking for a fight where it's not.
-
I can't believe people are still arguing about what punk means.
Christ it was dead and buried years ago (I mean Selfridges are having the 30th aniversary FFS).
I can recall laughing at all the sad people still into rock'n'roll. Turned out they were only 20 years behind the times, unlike today's 'punks'. Surely they can see the irony of it all.
Now don't get me wrong punk was probably the pivotal point in my life (I was young and impressionable...) and has shaped what I have become (for better or worse).
But lists, puhlease.

Would have liked to hear Madeleine Mary though...
It was brilliant in London in August. It was that jazzed up version you can hear on Summer in the South East...
-
Oh man it was fantastic. It was much better than I dared hope for. It could so easily have all gone soooo wrong.
I think that the female vocals reigned him in a bit (especially on Wolf Among Wolfs) as he tends to get a bit loose live with the guys.
It was sweet! Yeah Molly Bawn was certainly a highlight for me. Thought I See A Darkness and I Live By the Sea were also phenomenal.
I was just gutted he only played a short set.
Total respect for Harem Scarem though. They are not my bag but they did themselves and Will proud last night. Serously considering trying to catch another gig on the tour now. Nice touch bringing his own drummer/percussionist though (Pete Townsend?). I think he was instrumental in holding it all down. Liked the bowing of the cymbals.
Last thanks to my old school mate Steve for getting a damn fine spot to observe it all from.
-
Billy Joel and Phil Collins. Jesus some of you have no shame have you?
Hows about:
Merle Haggard ('cept he is uber cool to me)
Micheal Nesmith
Sister Sledge (I love Sister Sledge)
Problem is that everything I listen to is cool to me. Who cares what anybody else thinks?
Oh yeah (Alan Cynic) Slade were the coolest band in '73 (or at least to me...). Still love that violin on that one they use(d) on the Transit Van ads...

Has anyone heard the 'album' that was made after Loaded? Squeeze I think it was called (1973)' date=' mainly Doug Yule, although I think it went out in the guise of the velvets. It's total garbage. I think the best post velvets stuff by anyone involved is Berlin by Lou Reed. The songs for drella album's pretty good too.[/quote']
Yeah I used to have it, it's awful. Doug Yule tried to trade on the name for a couple of years after (Sterling and Mo having left as well).
If i recall correctly there is a post Lou 'velvets' boxset! The mind boggles.
-
There's great songs on it' date=' especially on the first half, but some of the tracks ("Train Round The Bend" ... seem to have been added at the last minute to pad it out.[/quote']
I like 'Train...' Nice bit of guitar.
Know what you mean about Lonesome Cowboy Bill though...
