  1. My thoughts:

It's a real shame that the Lemon Tree has closed.

It's location didn't help. If it was located on Belmont Street then it would probably still be here.

Those that claim there are are shortage of venues in this city need a reality check... if there genuinely was a shortage then the LT would have been packed every night and making money. That's basic economics. If anything there is clearly a shortage of gig go-ers otherwise venues wouldn't keep going bust (that's umm 3 in the past 3 years). We'd do much better to promote our local music scene as a whole.

Drakes was a bigger loss IMO, and if we are to have a venue that is provided with financial assistance then something along those lines would be enormously beneficial to the local musicians... and would be deserving of financial assistance.

Musa caters for some of the performing arts type stuff that you used to find in the Lemon Tree, has a more appropriate capacity, and is more centrally accessible.

wise comment. Drakes was a massive loss. There are a lot of talented musicians in this city. Drakes was a focal point for many years. Although I think that the Moorings is becoming central.

  2. It's true in most cases. Certainly most of the people who complain about their treatment on here miss certain vital facts out of their story. Yours was one of the few cases of someone actually having a genuine grievance.

It's one of the few perks of the job. Give the staff a break, they work bloody hard and the last thing they need when they finish their shift is to stand in a queue for an hour to get into their own club.

no i meant folk who skip the bar queues. Some folk stand at the bar for ages. if yer face dont fit....and all that jazz

  3. Heya,

We're looking for bands for a possible acoustic night to play at RGU Union (that's the one on Schoolhill).

Also looking for DJs to play monthly nights as part of my own personal push to increase the range of music (and thus students catered for) played in the Union... I mean yeah cheesy pop is good but not every night :D

Please get in touch! Send demos info etc to union@rguunion.co.uk or phone 01224 262295.

    George :)

    hmm, dj dave?

  4. What was up with the atmosphere though? It was horribly tense, when Eliza from Magik Markers was rawking out it felt like someone's grandchild was playing metal at an old folk's home! Awkward to the max. The sound was pretty rubbish, too, guitars needed to be way louder!

AND two people fucking wolf whistled as Eliza came back on for the encore!

That aside, was good to see Six Organs in Aberdeen, long may shows like this happen, etc (only next time downstairs hopefully?)...

The sound was crap, which is a shame as six organs are quality. The seating thing was far too tense. I still enjoyed it though
