Since those early days he has djed all over the UK and around the world. 9. Playground Dj Yoda supprt Finnie and Tez Saturday 9th Dec Kef, Belmont st, Aberdeen 10pm - 3am Limited tickets available from One Up 01224 642662 DJ Yoda is one of the most admired and original DJs on the UK music scene, managing in just 5 years to build a reputation as the only DJ in Britain who has single handedly injected humour into the UK hip-hop scene. Admired for his originality as well as his sense of fun, he is possibly the only DJ in the world who can fill a club cutting George Formby with Jurassic 5, or 80's pop with New York Rap. Tipped by Q Magazine as one of '10 DJs you must see before you die', and voted alongside DJ Premier as 'One of the Top Three DJ's in the World' in Hip Hop Connection magazine, DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. Born in London, Yoda represents a new brand of mixmaster who will play any kind of music to make people dance, with a hip-hop set that can takes the audience from underground rap to TV themes, to nursery rhymes, country, soul, reggae, drum and bass, 80's pop and back again. He has played all over the world from Japan to the USA, Australia, Canada and all over Europe, not to mention every corner of the UK. He has played alongside acts such as De La Soul, Gang Starr, Goldie, Roni Size and Pete Tong and recently been asked to remix Basement Jaxx's new single. Last year saw him tour across America with the BullRun and this year alone, Yoda has a short tour planned in Africa where he'll be headlining the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi, as well as an Australian tour, the usual round-up of UK and European festivals, sporting events and club nights. Separate to these dates, he has also embarked on a 25-date audio-visual tour, boldly stepping where no other scratch DJ has been before to cut up DVDs live in the club. This came about after his successful rescoring of both "The Goonies" and "Ferris Buellers Day Off" on the festival circuit in 2003 and 2004. His How To Cut and Paste mix CD series has reached Vol. 3 The 80s Edition a collage of his favourite pop, hip-hop and movie moments from the 1980s. Yoda also helps to run Antidote Records, who (as well as his own mix CDs) are releasing music by artists like Steinski, Prince Paul, Jungle Brothers and Madlib. He has provided music for TV (Channel 4's "4 Music" and FilmFour trails), advertising (Tesco's!) and film (Pathe's "Suzie Gold"), and has also judged three years-worth of DMC DJ World Finals. Alongside his sometime DJ partner Dan Greenpeace (of XFM's All City Show) he released Unthugged in 2003, and provided Pete Tong with his first ever hip-hop Essential Mix for Radio 1 bootleg copies of which have been doing the rounds ever since. Leaving mixtapes aside for a while, Yoda is now working on his first artist album, due on Antidote this year. Yoda has already provided beats for Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, Biz Markie, People Under The Stairs, Large Professor and MC Paul Barman, and won't stop until he works with Rick Astley on a turntablist DJ track. It has had releases from such artists as Pyro, Noisia, Kemal and BSE. He was resident at now defunct LiveVevil and currently resident at Xplicit in Glasgow. Morphy is a Glasgow based producer who has been smashing up the scene for years now. His style of dubby basslines and rolling breaks are always met with great approval from the raving masses. He made his debut on Urban Takeover with the heavy roller "Cheb MkII" in 2002 which was followed up with the belly-dance workout "Trans Egypt Express" and the rave style "Warehouse". In 2004 he unleashed the monstrous "Bottoms Up" on Direct Recordings and this year Morphy has dropped two out'n'out dub monsters on the net label Exegene. www.djtez.com www.exegene.com www.junglenation.co.uk www.nerveproductions.co.uk www.direct-recordings.co.uk www.myspace.com/_davy www.myspace.com/paul_reset www.myspace.com/junglenation www.myspace.com/nerverecordings www.myspace.com/sharkluvahluvah www.exegene.com/djtezjunglenation www.myspace.com/mistaolivertwisted

A mutation of the drum and bass formula, they opted for dense textures rather than simple jungle breaks, and Macs to power their music rather than the traditional 1200's with dub plate. Ed Rush's early collaborations with sound engineer Nico yielded critical acclaim for the creative use of eerie vocal samples and swirling breakbeats. Indeed so, their album "Torque" on Nico's No-U-Turn was hailed by many as a landmark album in the course of development and the mutation of drum and bass. Their creative partnership spawned countless imitators with average horror movie dialogues and well, cheap imitations. Ed Rush subsequently partnered up with Optical and taking his brand of drum and bass to another level. They created their own label, Virus, and their first release was "Medicine/Punchbag". Their eventual LP, Wormhole in 1998, was released to critical and underground success, and is regarded as a genre classic, as the sounds from that album again redefined the direction drum and bass was headed, and solidified their status as the forerunners of the new sound of drum and bass. More recently, after a slew of other releases, Ed Rush and Optical have released another genre-defining LP, the Creeps. This was again met with critical and commercial success, as the album helped them to win Knowledge drum and bass award for producers of the year.
