  1. I've got a ticket for this! Not sure why this debate has sprung up here specifically about booking fees - but one thing I'll bring to the it is why is it 10% of the "value" of the gig anyway? 10% of 8.50 for Errors is a fairly insignificant 85p. 10% of 180 or whatever a TITP ticket costs is 18. They're just bits of card or paper and they cost roughly the same to produce.

Anyways, I absolutely love the new album and I'm seriously looking forward to this show.

  2. My favourite festival is by far connect. The location was amazing, i would probably just go back for that alone. The Line-ups were also really good. Everyone was friendly and no minks! Hopefully it does come back next year!

Rockness is pretty good aswell, this year was the only year since it started that i've missed. Next years headliners have been announced as The Strokes and 2ManyDjs so al defo be heading

Totally agree with this although I'd argue the poorer line-up of Connect in its second year was a bit disappointing.

Went to Rockness for the first time this year and loved it. Easy to get to, friendly people and a brilliant line-up. Went to T in the Park for about the twelfth time this year and not going to go back. They may as well call it pop in the park these days.

  3. In order of brilliance...

    1. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - 'The Pains of Being Pure at Heart'

    2. The Phantom Band - 'Checkmate Savage'

    3. Fuck Buttons - 'Tarot Sport'

    4. Bronnt Industries Kapital - 'Hard for Justice'

    5. The Horrors - 'Primary Colours'

    6. Darker My Love - '2'

    7. Clint Mansell - 'Moon OST'

    8. Euros Childs - 'Son of Euro Child'

    9. Sky Larkin - 'The Golden Spike'

10.Animal Collective - 'Merriweather Post Pavilion'

  4. Also, I don't feel as if I'm being explained why you've put these albums in the order they're in. Not enough explanation for my liking, but then, I'm an annoying cunt.

It was just done that traditional end of year way - each writer submitted at least 10 and up to 20 in order of preference and then appropriate weighting was given based on the position (#1 = +20, #2 = +19, #20 = +1) etc.

Would never expect our thoughts to be considered definitive but it's just something we do each year and it's good to see whether peeps ever think we're right :)

  5. I can give a personal answer the Bitte Orca question. I personally thought it was the biggest disappointment of the year. I really looked forward to it because I enjoyed "Rise Above" but I got very little out of it at all - and I gave it a thorough listen through three times upon receiving the promo to check. Still, I understand a lot of other people loved it. Mind you, only one out of eleven of our writers nominated it compared to three who liked Saint Etienne.

Yeah, some of the placings may seem a little strange but it was a small straw poll and, unlike some publications, we all placed our albums based on how much we liked them and not on whether they 'should' be in our top 10s. More honest that way :)

  6. Ah yes, the dinosaurs in church skit was Izzard gold. I actually preferred the first half I'd say, but there you go. Don't like the AECC as a veue at all but what are you going to do? Would love him to do 5 nights in the HMT but that aint really going to happen...

  7. Didn't see this thread until now. I really enjoyed the show - had been humming and hahing for a while but decided to go when I saw Henning Wehn was supporting (the star of the last series of The Unbelievable Truth for me). I was up in the balcony and it was fine, but the music hall really didn't suit the set-up.

  8. Yep, Elgin still loves it.

I'll be making my annual visit when i'm back this xmas

I stopped making my annual trip last year - felt much better that way. Due to the ridiculous queues would have ended up celebrating the turnover to Christmas day in the queue.

My knowledge of local geography is appalling - I saw the Ash tour dates about 2 months ago and didn't know that East Grange was up here! I'm going to be in Elgin at the weekend too...is there a bus going there and back at all?

  9. A friend dragged me to see Fish Tank yesterday. It was alright, but felt a bit like a sixth year school project and there was a large amount of over-acting at times. Glad it didn't focus too much on the main character's love of dancing too much either. I hate those aspirational dance-flicks.

Didn't seem to be any over-acting that I saw, but then I don't really have much experience of the Essex ghetto :D Yeah, it's kinda and antidote to Billy Elliott in many ways.

Last film I watched was Bedazzled last night...the Pete n Dud original, not that pile of crap with Liz Hurley and Brendan 'where do I sign?' Fraser.

  10. I'd say Pavement are arguably much bigger since they split than they ever were when they were together. Really liked their singles back in the 90s and any band who inspired Urusei Yatsura are themselves double great as a result.

Not sure if the extra rumours of them doing Coachella before the show a year from now are true...

  11. I have an angry musician friend who pointed out to me that Dylan actually made the first rap record. I don't know if that's true but he is very angry so I didn't want to challenge the fact.

If he's talking about Subterrenean Homesick Blues then he's completely wrong. Even Dick Van Dyke got in on the "spoken singing" vibe a year before that in Mary Poppins!

It's true that Mavis and Sybil 'ave ways that are winning

And Prudence and Gwendolyn set your 'eart spinning

    Phoebe's delightful, Maude is disarming

    Janice, Felicia, Lydia - charming

    Cynthia's dashing, Vivian's sweet

    Stephanie's smashing, Priscilla a treat

    Veronica, Millicent, Agnes, and Jane

    Convival company, time and again

Drocas and Phyllis and Glynis are sorts

I'll agree are three jolly good sports

But cream of the crop, tip of the top

It's Mary Poppins, and there we stop!
