  1. Er...I've found that too....

I decided to go for the chop today' date=' and I must say for 7 it was well worth it. I expected to come out the hairdresser looking like Morrissey or a Teddy Boy but surprisingly I am well satisfied. Still long but considerably neater. "Shape N' Style" did the job harhar...[/quote']

Lucky you! I went to the hairdresser today and as usual came out wondering why oh why do hairdressers never understand the simple words, Not a lot of off, please."

  2. With news articles being available online newpaper reading is bound to decrease. I do like reading newspapers' date=' but i find websites like bbc.co.uk can provide far wider coverage and sometimes more interesting articels.[/quote']

Very true. I read a vast amount of different news and political websites too: ranging from Zmag to the Von Mises Institute. However, I do not think that the availability of free news on the Internet is the foremost cause for the decline in newspaper sales. I believe the reason is because we live in a tabloid age: an age where celebrity and hyperbolic rhetoric sells. That is the reason why such intellectually stimulating magazines such as Heat have seen their sales go through the roof and borderline neo-nazi papers like The Sun and The Daily Mail continue to have steady sales.

In the long term, the decline of reading informative newspapers is going have a perverse impact on our society because people will not be informed on the issues of the day. This will ultimately lead to people relying on corporate news organisations, who have their own agenda, for their views.

  3. It did not come as a surprise reading that Exxon Mobil influenced the White House considerably regarding Kyoto when it has been well established that Enron essentially wrote the Bush Administrations energy policy at the beginning of Bushs first term in office.

Regarding newspapers, The Guardian is my favourite. With writers such as, Jonathan Freedland, Jonathan Steele, and Roy Greensdale it is far superior in comparison to the other papers that are on offer.

It is sad, though, that the number of people who read newspapers has decreased significantly; especially people, who read quality newspapers, like The Guardian and The Independent. Unfortunately, in todays society, people would rather read about the sex life of a nobody than about an upheaval in Bolivia or Ethiopia, which has a significance in the entire World, unlike the bedroom activities of a C-list celebrity.

On a different topic, did anyone see Question Time last night? Awful, awful, awful!

  4. In no particular order

Brian Eno - Another Green World

    Joy Division - Closer

    Can - Tago Mago

    Gang Of Four - Entertainment!

    Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady

    Wire - Pink Flag

The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers

    Magazine - Real Life

  5. I am aware of the record' date=' was never gonna pay the full price for it, although noticed it 2nd hand in One-Up!! Might hae to gie it a whirl so to speak!!!

"JOE! He knows not to touch the television!"[/quote']

I dont know what the album is like, but the track Story is surreal. It is basically ten minutes of a wasted Shaun Ryder telling random stories about 20 grams of Euro and such like.

  6. Rumsfeld was doing his job. Galloway's motives were more sinister...I think.

I dont think the fact that Rumsfeld was merely doing his job, which was selling weaponry and intelligence to a brutal dictator, was any less sinister than Galloway praising a brutal dictator.

The reason Galloway was praising Saddam Hussein was because of his support for the Palestinians, which included the payment of thousands of dollars to the families of suicide bombers. Therefore, his eulogising of Hussein did not have to with any personal benefit for himself, but for his twisted political goals, like the murder of innocent Israeli citizens. If he paid money to Hussein then his actions would be on par to Rumsfelds, but he didnt, therefore Rumsfelds actions were far worse, but they do not excuse Galloways, which some people strangely think they do.

Anyway, I am surprised people are so full of praise after Galloways performance at the Senate. Did I watch the same footage as everyone else? I watched the full coverage on Sky news last night, not the well-edited footage that was shown on numerous bulletins, and from what I saw; Galloway did not come away from the Senate smelling of roses. This was for mainly two reasons: his refusal to talk fully about Mr. Zureiqat and his praise for Tariq Aziz.

Mr. Zureiqat is an Arab businessman who is closely connected to Galloway (Galloway was best man at his wedding) and donated thousands of pounds to the Miriam Appeal. What I found astonishing was the fact that Galloway stated that he never knew that his close friend, Mr. Zureiqat, was involved in oil dealings in Iraq. He made clear that he only knew he did business in Iraq and in other Middle Eastern Countries, but not that he was involved in the oil business. How many people do not know what business their close friends do?

Another thing troubling about Galloway was his refusal to say that he would condemn Mr. Zureiqat if he were found guilty of getting kick-backs from the Hussein regime. Surely, if he loved the Iraqi people as much as Galloway says he does, he would condemn someone whose dealings may have diverted much needed money going to the Iraqi people who were living in severe deprivation because of the draconian sanctions against them by the UN. However, Galloway merely avoided the question, deeming it irrelevant.

His praise for Tariq Aziz was unbelievably distasteful and it is quite something that no one in the media has mentioned it. Galloway said, yesterday, that his relationship with Aziz was friendly and that he has met with him so much times that he couldnt remember the exact number! This is astonishing when you consider that Aziz was the deputy Prime Minister of Iraq under Saddams rule and therefore oversaw the mass killings of innocent Iraqis: people whom Galloway ostensibly cares for.

All in all, it is depressing that someone like George Galloway is a Member of Parliament. It is even more depressing when you realise that he won the constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow because of the support he received from the Muslim population there, which is ironic as he is an apologist for the biggest killer of Muslims that is currently aliveSaddam Hussein.

  7. What Do I get? - Buzzcocks

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division

Hand In Glove - The Smiths

    A Forest - The Cure

Lazy Line Painter Jane - Belle & Sebastian

The Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen

    Map Ref. 41N 93W - Wire

    Velouria - Pixies

Just Like Honey - The Jesus and Mary Chain

You Made Me Realise - My Bloody Valentine

  8. Has no one mentioned any soundtracks by the great Ennio Morricone? More or less every soundtrack he has ever done is rather superb, to say the least.

Regarding modern film soundtracks, I regard, The Virgin Suicides, Ghost World, Lost In Translation, and City Of God, to be of a very high standard.

  9. I haven't no - are you referring to Scotland or Britain though?

I am referring to Britain. I doubt that opinion on capital punishment is much different or any different at all in Scotland compared to the whole of Britain, though.

Your avatar is amazing, by the way!

  10. It's not really good news as David Davis will proabably win a leadership contest - and he's even more hardline' date=' advocates capital punishment....so actually I suppose it is good news, as people will probably be less likely to vote for the Tories if he is the leader.[/quote']

True, David Davis will be the next leader of the Tory Party. I predicted that before the election. Who else is there? Tim Collins? I must correct you on your point about capital punishment, though. Have you ever seen any polls regarding capital punishment? The overwhelming majority of this Country support capital punishment, therefore Davis stance on that particular issue could unfortunately be a vote winner at the next election.

  11. Because...that's the way things go sometimes. Personally' date=' I can't stand it, and I don't think it's right for my setlist, but I had to give it a go, if only to shut up the extremely persistent requesters.

Back to "Killing In The Name" for the "token" heavy song next week, then...[/quote']

Fair enough. I cant complain too much, though, as you did play, The Cure, Arcade Fire, Gang Of Four, The Clash, The Jam, Seafood, Belle & Sebastian, Editors, and of courseThe Smiths!

  12. Considering all the obvious covers have been mentioned I will choose the following:

Pavement- The Killing Moon (Echo and The Bunnymen)

    Cat Power- We Dance (Pavement)

Burning Sensations- Pablo Picasso (Modern Lovers)

Jesus and Mary Chain- Mushroom (Can)

Jeff Buckley- The Boy With The Thorn In His Side (The Smiths)

  13. He's not a nationalist! Only in the sense that he wants an independent Grampian Republic!

Ha. The correct term to describe him, to be honest, is secessionist, which I always thought I was until I started speaking to him! I wonder if he has enjoyed Man Us high scoring game with Blackburn?

  14. OK...So who likes them? Was listening to "Where the Power Is" - an excellent overview

Real Life is an essential album for anyones musical collection, in my opinion. The Light Pours Out Of Me is one of my favourite songs everup there with Golden Hours by Brian Eno and my current favourite, Dress Rehearsal Rag by Leonard Cohen, who I have started listening to again after a conversation with a certain nationalist you know.

  15. "Paradise City! Girls Are Pretty!"

That would break any terrorist's spirit

They are not terrorists they are enemy combatants!

If any of them heard that musical masterpiece I am sure they would be reaching for a piece of rope or a gun and on the way to having their 72 virgins in paradise!

  16. I just remembered people DO dance at parties - I'm sure Demon of the Fall and Dayeth will confirm the hideous dancing of certain select females to Guns N' Roses and Bon Jovi at a certain AJ's pad

You call Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi being played at a house a party? I would call it hell on Earthor a tactic used by the US Military at Guantanamo Bay to try and break enemy combatants.
