  1. Jesus Christ, the new Phantom Band record is amazing...
  2. Can only be a good thing. We started getting some good press in the EE for our recent run of gigs at The Blue Lamp with Vocoustics, and the attendances were consistently good. Good luck with it, Eoin.
  3. Nice. Cheers for the imp mention, Billy.
  4. I'm guessing the mention of Nutini is only meant in comparison with Ziggy's pronounced Scottish rasp. Check this acoustic session >> Toadcast #82 FOUND Toad Session | Song, by Toad
  5. You are not wrong. Definitely one of the best Scottish bands around right now. Here's the Chemikal blurb...
  6. as part of sound festival, interesting music promotions present: FOUND + INDIAN RED LOPEZ Saturday, 6 November 2010 The Tunnels, Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 211121 Doors 8pm Tickets 6+bf in adv / 7 on door Available from One-Up Records, Belmont Street, Aberdeen. Phone (01224) 642662 or http://www.ticketweb.co.uk or http://www.boxofficeaberdeen.com http://www.myspace.com/interestingmusic http://www.sound-scotland.co.uk FOUND The brainchild of art college buddies Ziggy Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Tommy Perman (bass guitar, synth) and Kev Sim (electronics, percussion); FOUND create an unusual mix of garage rock, melodic pop and glitchy electronica, which has just lead to them signing a publishing deal with the highly respected Domino Records, and, more recently, a record deal with Chemikal Underground Records. FOUND began life as an experimental arts collective putting on many weird and wonderful events in art galleries, warehouses and even storage containers. Their most recent project, an emotional robot band called Cybraphon, captured the attention of the worlds press. Since its unveiling at the Edinburgh International Festival at the start of August, Cybraphon has been featured on national newspapers across the world (e.g. China, Brazil, Italy, Spain, UK), made the top story on the homepage of WIRED.com and has been covered by CNN and TV networks internationally including BBCs primetime arts show The Culture Show. FOUND made their American debut at SXSW in March 2009 and followed up with a string of performances at CMJ in October 2009 where Brooklyn Vegan picked them out as ones to watch. In the UK they have built up a strong fan base and highlights of their live career to date include the BBC Electric Proms, T in the Park, Triptych, Brightons Great Escape, the Fence Collectives Homegame festival and Hydro Connect Festival. Their self-released debut Found Can Move earned them an impressive amount of UK national radio play including support from BBC Radio 1 djs, Steve Lamaq, Rob Da Bank, Huw Stevens and Vic Galloway. Theyve recorded radio sessions for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Scotland including a recording in John Peels studio at Maida Vale. They also recorded an exclusive live session in the legendary Beatles Studio at Abbey Road for US radio station U-Pop XM 29. FOUND have a prolific output with two full-length albums and numerous singles / EPs in the last two years, with releases on Fence Records [uK], Creeping Bent [uK] and Aufgeladen Und Bereit [Germany]. The band have also become sought-after remixers and have recently applied their creative imaginations to reworking the music of King Creosote (Warner), Make Model (EMI), Attic Lights (Island) and Au Revoir Simone (Moshi Moshi). SELECTED PRESS FOUND sound like a punch up between Paolo Nutini and Captain Beefheart. - News of the World their sound is so progressive, so completely unique, its demeaning to tie it to the stale confines of a label. Instead, we should be celebrating the euphoria created by their extraordinary kaleidoscopic soundscapes. - 9/10 Drowned in Sound Sampled sounds wrestle it out with jagged bursts of electronica across songs that lurch around like shouty drunks on a week-long bender. - Q Magazine Both band name and album title are spot on. Like musical beachcombers, Edinburgh quintet FOUND take full advantage of whatever washes up on their shore thats capable of making a noise and build up a delightfully wonky collage of sound with their haul. Its an approach that bears particularly juicy fruit the combination of the experimental with a keen ear for a simple, to-the-quick melody making them sound not unlike their label boss King Creosote holed up in a studio with Brian Eno - Nige Tassell, WORD http://foundtheband.com http://www.myspace.com/foundtheband INDIAN RED LOPEZ Guitars, electronics and visuals outfit Indian Red Lopez are one of the brightest prospects from round these parts right now, and last years Castles Incomplete EP turned more than a few heads on its release. Five lads from Aberdeenshire and one from the arse end of nowhere (!!), whove come together to make music and art, put it all together and present it as an all-round audio/visual experience. Its what theyve wanted to do from the very beginning; its just taken them a while to get where they are musically and into a frame of mind (whatever that may be). Incorporating the visual relevance of it all can take time too; they're always trying to figure out better / more effective, interesting ways of presenting visual ideas. A belter of a show at The One Up 30th celebration last year ensured a new audience for this great band and we have it on good authority they were one of the BIG plusses at the recent Wizard Festival. http://www.myspace.com/indianredlopez

In early 2009, port-royal inked a deal with Oakland-based n5MD to release their third full-length album, Dying In Time. Excluding the 3-movement, slow-burning "Hermitage", the majority Dying In Time sees the band burying their contrapuntal guitar work under layers of gauzy synths, pulsing, 4-on-the-floor beats, and more prominent vocals on more than half the album. With tighter song structures and a new melodic focus, port-royal's latest effort manages to preserve the ethereal, dream-like quality of the band's previous work, while making room for the infectiously-catchy ambient pop of tracks like "Balding Generation (Losing Hair As We Lose Hopes)" and "Nights in Kiev." SELECTED PRESS "Dying In Time is a wondrous and uplifting slice of modern music. Lets not get bogged down in whether its post-rock, ambient, modern-classical or, indeed, some alien brand of trip-hop. Dying In Time possesses elements of all these genres, but blends them in such a way as they feel natural, that music has always sounded like this and possessed these qualities that inspire feelings of joy and wonder. - The Line Of Best Fit If one can stand its brilliant cold without shivering, Dying In Time might be one of the most fulfilling records of the year. - XLR8R If Afraid to Dance favours technique and production over the development of actual songs it nevertheless finds the band far enough ahead of most post-rock that they actually point towards new directions for the genre. - Coke Machine Glow So it goes with port-royal, who were lumped by many into the post rock genre, even though their sound very, very rarely moves into something that would be called rock at all. If anything, the group is creating super-spectral ambient music. - Almost Cool http://www.port-royal.it http://www.myspace.com/uptheroyals TEN Ten is based in the city of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, and led by musician Dominic Deane. 15. interesting music promotions and Vocoustics, in association with Aberdeen Folk Club present CORINNE WEST & KELLY JOE PHELPS + TUNGSTEN & BULLHELM Wednesday, 22 September 2010 The Blue Lamp, 121 Gallowgate, Aberdeen, AB25 1BU. Ladies and gentlemen, two of America's premier singer/songwriters have joined talents creating a stellar new sound. Soul, passion, beautifully laced vocal harmonies and brilliant guitar work are at the heart of their new collaboration. It's a handful of aces friends and like nothing you (or they) have heard before! And now theyre coming to the UK! CORINNE WEST, a fourth generation Californian and musician who performs upwards of 200 shows each year, has a voice that simply soars. Using her powerfully eloquent voice, coupled with beautifully crafted songs - memorable both lyrically and melodically - she has fashioned a unique identity within American musics acoustic/roots scene. Her latest record, 'The Promise', confirms Wests place among the finest young singer-songwriters. Described as "elegant new sexy acoustic jazz-rock-folk", and "west coast acoustic soul music", this is a work of deep feeling and deep inspiration, roads travelled and roads less travelled, songs insightful and resonant about matters of the heart, soul and existence. In concert, Corinne brings a special grace and fire to the stage. Her song-writing strength coupled with magnetic stage presence create a captivating performance, winning rave reviews at home and abroad. Corinne has toured extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe and the U.K., and has been featured on national radio in these regions. I love Corinne's music and truly believe in her as an artist. She has spirit, integrity and talent. I am a massive fan. (Bob Harris, Legendary British broadcaster, BBC Radio2) A West wind blew into town on Friday night and its name was Corinne, full of passion, charm and wit and laden down by a truck full of great original songs. This was a night that will be remembered for a long time, a must for venues next time she tours. (Windsor Arts Centre, UK) Its a stirring body of work, by turns haunting, gripping and moving and all wrapped around Corinnes distinctive smoky vocals. (Oxford Mail) Spectacularly haunting...eloquently soulful. (Folk and Roots, David Kidman) A voice of gold. (Relix Magazine) http://www.corinnewest.com KELLY JOE PHELPS has, over the course of eight CDs and fifteen years of touring the world, established himself as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter with singular vision and fearless purpose. His mix of folk, blues, and jazz has won him praise from the likes of Bill Frisell, Steve Earle, and Cameron Crowe. Kelly Joe has been featured on NPRs All Things Considered and Prairie Home Companion as well as numerous BBC and other national radio shows throughout Europe, Australia and Japan. Hes recorded with Townes Van Zandt, Greg Brown, Martin Simpson, Jay Farrar, and a host of others. A brilliant improviser, Phelps is known for his ability to put a new spin on a song every time he plays, inventive and imaginative enough to be able to take multiple styles of music and merge them with his own artistic voice, creating a unique sound both original and universal. His music is a wide world with three hundred and sixty degrees of influence Kelly Joe is a musical slight of hand master. He pulls world wide sounds out of his guitar. (Tim OBrien) He seems to have tapped into the artery somehow. Theres a lot going on in between and behind the notes. Mystery. Hes been an inspiration to me. (Bill Frisell) Im talking about a feeling, a smoky, lonesome, painful yet somehow comforting groove that lets you know that you are not alone even when youre blue. Play on, brother.
