DHC PRESENTS
Accoustic Night...
10pm
3.00 entry
INDIAN RED LOPEZ (accoustic)
STEVEN MILNE (The Little Kicks)
ROBERT WILL (Right Hand Left)
Free passes/ Free Nachos from Athenaeum (upstairs) from 9pm.
Club Snafu | Aberdeen Nightclub Home
------------------------------------------
In a rare accoustic DHC night, we have some local acts for you to enjoy....
INDIAN RED LOPEZ
The popular local indie / electro / visual act will be playing DHC for only the second time on Thursday and this time it will be a lot different to the last. Normally a six piece rocking out in their usual format, this will be a rare chance to see the guys pared back doing an accoustic set. Details from Mr Chang are still sketchy as to what to expect but judging by the bands last live set I saw - very nice things indeed.
The band are set to play Homegame this year and also are currently in the studio working on new mateial.

STEVEN MILNE
As of Thursday, ill have completed my first solo LP (mixing and mastering this week).
Its taken me a long time to make it, so Im starting to now play the songs out live and on Thursday will be playing several tracks from it as well as some new material which is for the Little Kicks 2nd Album which is written with a plan to be recorded in Summer.
Ill maybe play a few songs from the first Little Kicks LP also but will be trying things a little differently with beats / keyboards so new songs will take prominence! For anyone who was at Fruit Bats- itll be a similar set to that which went down really well.
If anyone wants a wee listen there is a track or two (unmastered) streaming here for listening purposes!
And a review here of the Fruit Bats show I played at:
Dancing In The Dark - Art & Culture in Aberdeen & Beyond....: Fruitbats Live @ Tunnels, Aberdoom
-----------------------------------------
ROBERT WILL
Bob Will is the frontman of local class act Right Hand Left.
As with RHL live, Bob accoustic is always a great act to watch and is no stranger to producing nifty choruses and heartfelt lyrics with toe tapping songs aplenty. The guys are currently in the process of mixing and finishing a new 3 track single which will be released in the Spring (tbc). Having heard it, its a belter and Im sure Bob will be in top form on Thursday to perform his usual high standard renditions of the bands and his own solo material.
Right Hand Left have previously played with Foals, The Futureheads, Mystery Jets among others, toured with the X-Certs and were also a noted highlight by many of Wizard last year. You can currently buy their previous releases on I-tunes but keep an ear out for the new single estimated for a spring release.

DHC PRESENTS..
GERRY LOVES RECORDS 7 INCH LAUNCH PARTY!
Gerry Loves Records launch night featuring Debutant and Conquering Animal Sound with support from Brother Louis Collective

DEBUTANT
Debutant on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
------------------------------
Debutant is one man, a guitar and a voice. Although he writes and sings songs, hes certainly not a singer-songwriter in the traditional sense. Think dreamy pop songs augmented by textured atmospheric soundscapes. Or something like that.
Having plied his trade in bands, Phillip began writing songs and compositions that didnt suit the style of the bands he was in. So he purchased a loop pedal and figured hed do it all himself. He played his first set in April 2008 and has since played with artists such as Glissando, Meursault, Immanu El, Ballboy, Over the Wall, Copy Haho, David Grubbs, Viking Moses, The Pictish Trail, Vessels, Found, The Xcerts and Hugh Cornwell. In January 2009, Debutant did a 2 week tour of Scotland, England and Ireland.
Debutant loops and layers guitars, creating shimmering atmospheres over which he adds delicate, breathless and dreamy vocals. The songs are deceptively simple yet affecting. Having relocated to Edinburgh in 2009, 2010 will see Debutant release a full-length album, with a tour to promote the album in the autumn.
"My first impressions of the theatre were of immediate warmth and hospitality, the BandStAnd at The Barron night commenced in understated fashion as Phillip Quirie slinked on stage as the solitary member of the one-man dream, ambient shoe-gaze project, Debutant. Lulling us all with the calming reassuring flow of Means to An End, the easing warm current of his music ably conveys an evocative gentle landscape, allaying the anxieties of even the most troubled souls. Armed with only a guitar, loop pedals and reverb unit his delicate voice and subtle picking and vibrato directs the ebb and flow, and nuances of delicacy that create the shimmering dynamics on offer, Thirst and King of Doublespeak proving to be the highlights of a set that ends in a surprisingly intense fashion." isthismusic?
CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND
Conquering Animal Sound on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
------------------------------
Conquering Animal Sound is made up of Anneke Kampman and James Scott. A musical project in its infancy but one that is filled with much promise and potential. Already making great waves within the musical community of Edinburgh their live show is something of awe-inspiring greatness, creating loops, beats and samples out of anything and everything with Annekes sumptuous vocals carrying the sounds to what seems like a new world. A debut album is in the works - set to be released via Gizeh Records/Mini50 later in the year. Big things are predicted for the band in 2010.
"Meticulously built up vocal, laptop and electric guitar loops that evolve into spookily charming minimalist incantations." - The List
"Kampmans gorgeous intone floats telepathically into the tapestry of guitar and loops created by Scott. Recalling the minimalistic dalliances of Scandinavian progressives Mm, CAS are quite unlike anything youll hear in Scotland today" - The Scotsman

BROTHER LOUIS COLLECTIVE

--------------------------------
The Brother Louis Collective is a stunning new group born in 2006 out of early student days in Glasgow and gathered round the precocious talent of the young foot-stamping, faintly maniacal singer/song-writer Louis Abbott, 21, influences Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elbow, Low, Midlake, the Fence folks, Bright Eyes BLC adds clarinet, flute, double bass and two jaw-dropping voices to the usual indie line-up to smash through their joyous, heart-filled, orchestral and beautifully eccentric and well crafted songs. Louis is proud to be Scottish and his accent is to the fore in his singing, contrasting magically with the Northumbrian tones of Sarah Hayes.

There wont be anymore supports added I doubt for this.
Good enough line up as it is though I agree.
Tickets moving along nicely also already...roll on April.
Although lots of gigs before then to look forward to - Errors, Fenech Soler, Richmond Fontaine...good stuff.
-
Ticket price is likely set by the agent as is often the case - I couldnt say on this occasion as its not our show.
However, I think their last visit at Lemon Tree was 19 plus booking fee.
So its not far off either way.
Anyway, its about 1.50 /2.00 to drink in the venue now so theres a notable saving there if thats any help.
Im sure itll be a really good show.

PCL PRESENTS
THE FALL
8.00pm

22.50
The Fall are an English post-punk group, formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester in 1976. The group has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. First associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years. However, The Fall's music is often characterised by repetition, an abrasive guitar-driven sound, and is always underpinned by Smith's vocals and often cryptic lyrics, described by critic Steve Huey as "abstract poetry filled with complicated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations, and general misanthropy (sometimes more implied than clearly stated, but apparent nonetheless)."
The group's output is prolificas of April 2008 they have released 27 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They have never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but have maintained a strong cult following. The band were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, "They are always different; they are always the same."

WAREHOUSE PRESENTS...
GIL SCOTT HERON

7.00pm

17.50 advance tickets
Gil Scott-Heron (born April 1, 1949) is an American poet, musician, and author known primarily for his late 1970s and early 1980s work as a spoken word soul performer and his collaborative work with musician Brian Jackson.
His collaborative efforts with Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron.
The music of these albums, most notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul. Scott-Heron's recording work is often associated with black militant activism and has received much critical acclaim for one of his most well-known compositions "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". Scott-Heron's unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists.
His new record was released last week to rave reviews.

I think Sing the Greys is amazing.
Square 9 alone makes it worth a purchase.
