  1. The weekends result, stag nights effectively zero. Well there was one gorup of 4 guys that looked a little out of place, but since there were only 4, and they were scared of me I let them in.
  2. Have you seen the one with 1 leg? They tell me it was bitten off by a loanshark.
  3. If they can stand it then they probably belong in the bar anyway. Survival of the deafest.
  4. I'm waiting on the sign coming back from the sign shop. In the meantime the scubby note is eliminating 90% of the undesirables. What's wrong with sleazy dives?

  6. Being located on the quay has it's advantages: 1) Neds are too scared to come down. 2) Getting to and from the bar unaccosted is very safe, the worst part being negotiating Market Street, personally I recommend either going down Guild Street, via the Shiprow, or down Marshall Street. There are only 2 minor problems: 1) Hookers, lucily we are far away from the tolerence zone that we hardly see any, and the police helpfully patrol around the bar to scare them off. In the unlikely event that anyone encounters one, here is how to deal with the situation. When they enquire "Yi looking fer bizness?" just reply "Yes - do you sell kebabs?". 2) Stag nights. We do not admit stag nights, head wettings etc. Most of those terminate at the Crown & Anchor, but we have a sign up prohibiting them anyway. In addition we have hiked the price of a bottle of Miller MGD into the stratosphere 2.50 as opposed to 1.80 or 2.00 for other bottled beers. Occasionally though a group will manage to trick us into admission, usually by arriving in small scouting parties. When this happens we play our joker... I turn the volume up all the way, the crowd in the bar smile and encourage this with the secret Moorings sign of index finger jabbing upwards. It's amazing how fast those fuckers drink their bottles of Miller with TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND WATTS of Rammstein or Killing Joke blasting both brain cells out of their ears. It also means that it's too loud for them to talk, and so loud they are unable to order a second drink (heaven forbid). Result: total stag nights last weekend = 1. Duration = 4 mins. Roll on Saturday. This is almost fun. So if it goes loud then just sit back and enjoy the spectacle. I should also mention that we too have banned burbury (however it's spelt), football tops, baseball caps, shell suits, and trainers. Nudity is tolerated under the influence of Absinthe. Flash

    JUKEBOX

Current Jukebox Listing: 20 slots to swap out - requests please Among the things we intend to swap in this time around are: Courtney Love - American Sweetheart Fields of the Nephilim - Revelations Jet - Get Born Sisters of Mercy - Floodland Soil - Redefine Young Heart Attack - Mouthful of Love Various other jukebox stalwarts will have their albums rotated such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AC/DC, etc. We intend to rotate about 20 entries in total, so we need specific suggestions on what goes in. We do not however require any input on what is removed, otherwise it will become impossible to remove anything... So please be constructive. Also take into account that we have to maintain some sort of balance, exactly where the point of balance is may drift a little over time though. It would be useful if people could highlight niche compilations that cover a specific minority genre where there are no definitive albums as such. Another thing we intend to do is hold over 5 slots for local bands material. AUBL are going to burn some local band compilation albums, that way we get to include the work of as many bands as possible. JUKEBOX

Your requests for our jukebox Arguably the worlds best jukebox is now fixed and working through the new PA. It sounds amazing. We've fitted and brand new SOA Phillips laser. I'll append a list of what's currently on it here. We turnover around 20% of the CDs each month. Any requests? Flash

    looking good

We got hit pretty hard by the Hells Bells and Offspring gigs this weekend. Glad you enjoyed it though.
  12. OK I think we have this sorted. The whole desk seems to be referenced in DBFS. The green LEDS turn to yellow at -12 (something that happened at 0 on the old desk), the yellows turn to red at 0. Monitoring it more closely at peak the CD signal just enters the yellow section - I should mention that I put the dip switches on the AD card back to their original setting. Turning the system up full (not for the fainthearted) the 3db to clip light on both the desk at amps starts to flicker. We also adjusted the amps slightly. Mics appear to work the same way. Hot Mangu stopped by after their practice and spent 6 hours helping us test things out. This was mostly 6 hours of "ONE TWO" pause twiddle "ONE TWO". Those guys have the patience of saints. The gain on the vocal mics with the input signal turned up to 0 was the giveaway. After err 5 hours and 50 minutes of fruitless EQing in a minefield of feedback we turned it down so that it just peaked in the yellow and everything started working. What blew me away was that 30 people had showed up, and despite me suggesting that really they'd be better off drinking elsewhere they stayed till the end. It must have been torture. No let me rephrase that... IT WAS FUCKIN TORTURE. Many thanks to Hot Mangu, we couldn't have done it without you. Flash
  13. The crowd photos were taken at our last Wrecking Ball and there is another one tonight. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9940
  14. Yeah From the outside people imagine a snug with 15 sailors, a hooker, and some old git playing the accoridan. Then they walk in the door and think - where the fuck have I been drinking all my life. You know all those acquaintences that you haven't seen out for a few weeks. We have them. (cue menacing laugh) Heh heh heh.
  15. Re: Re: So which is the best solution/ Yes the CD player for example comes in on unbalanced leads. These are very high quality braided guitar leads that are 6m long. So are you saying that it's OK if the raw signal is clipping, and just to bring it down using the attenuator? The attenuator can take it down by as much as -60, so there is plenty of flexibility there.
  16. You don''t know me but I have heard you drumming. You might only have seen me, or more correctly my extensive range of custom transport that has included at various times a pickup truck, a GTO, and a bike that looks like it eats small children. People in The Paddock only tolerated me because I kept the rates down. Those oil stains all over the road were caused by me. The guy that used to live in your house worked for me for a while. Visit me down the bar regarding a gig. Friday nights are best. I'm the asshole wearing the bandana. Well one of the assholes wearing a bandana.
  17. So which is the best solution/ So which is the best solution? A) Set the card to 24dB and have line signals coming in at -18dB? We can then use the attenuator to boost it, although the boost range is farily limited when compared with the attenuation range. I can't remember off-hand if the max boost is 3dBUs or 12dBUs. OR B) Set the card to 4dBV and have the signal coming is close to 0dB then attenuating it? Please note that the raw signal does acutally clip on option B) but the attenuator brings it under control and it definately sounds better. There is no evidence of cliping on the output once the signal has been attenuated. We're currently attenuating it by 8dBUs. I think the dip switches on the AD card are probably pads since the difference between settings is 20dBU. Flash
  18. no really We might even become famous for our nice toilets. Forty years of hurt and misery eliminated by one photo. I wonder if people will stll want to screw in them?

Oops I forgot Today we got a WOOSH machine installed... oh and there was a shooting in the bar and someone died
  20. Teething problems Well for the last 10 days I've averaged 4 hours sleep per night... OUCH! On the Friday we had some issues with the sound, although nobody appears to have noticed. These digital desks operate a little differently and the line level was coming in at -18dB, that's way too low. On Saturday afternoon we removed the AD card and found some dip switches that set the input reference to +4dBV (that's pro level). Fuck knows what the other setting is for? Anyhow the signal then came in hovering around 0dB with is more like it, but with a danger of clipping, so we used the attenuators (a feature of digital desks) to bring this under control. Those of you who were there on Saturday night will have noticed that it sounded totally fuckin AWESOME! On top of this the jukebox cratered on opening night, and has been unuseable since Thursday. We only had 4 comp albums cos we prefer real albums, and people were getting sick of hearing them repeated. I went to 1UP today and bought some new comps, but the all feature a decent quantity of fairly obscure stuff mixed with reasonably well know tracks so we can reuse them in the jukebox later on. One of our bottle coolers also failed due to building work stew. We were all pretty knackered by Sunday so I had to ask my sister to look after the bar, although I was there in body. The jukebox should be fixed by Wed/Thurs - thank fuck! Am going to post some photos in the gallery now.
  21. He doesn't have a last name. He doesn't have a last name. I also noticed a flaw in our refit. We fitted hot air hand dryers. The problem here is that when Garth has his monthly wash in our toilets, he will no longer dry his face on the hand towel. This means a huge drop in revenue for us, as we were selling the hand towels on the internet as genuine Turin Shrouds. Bummer.
  22. No No we have the ever cuddly Garth. Will he do?
  23. You are not going to believe this but apparently our toilets now resemble something from 'Buck Rogers', and not the outside post armageddon wasteland part.
  24. Yes, I used to live there too.
  25. We unofficially opened last night. Although we hadn't advertised or informed anyone ~100 people showed up. Aren't mobile phones amazing! The jukebox cratered after 2 hours, so I was forced to place compilation albums on the CD player. This was tricky because we only have 4 comps in the entire jukebox as I'm not a big fan of comps. Doh! Nobody seemed to notice, probably because it sounded so good! Hopefully the jukebox will be sorted today. Aside from that one of our fridges appear to have been a casualty of the building work... Thanks to everyone that showed up. I guess it's a good job we had 3 barstaff on after all. Expecting another decent night tonight... I can't wait till Friday, but holy shit is my head fuzzy today. We should have some announcements regarding gigs soon. Flash
