  1. Just because the folk that frequet this board don't want them' date=' doesn't mean that others wouldn't go.

PS, I have no idea who they are. I only looked at this thread as it had the same title as my thread and logged onto it by mistake. Sorry.[/quote']

    I made the same mistake.

  2. Komodo 3000 (I think that's the name): Good stuff. Second last song was very Happy Mondays-esque. Maybe it was even a cover, I dunno cos I only have the one Happy Mondays album and I don't listen to it much. In fact I only really bought it for Wrote For luck. Oh back to the song, sorry. It was good anyway. As were the rest of the songs. A few tasty riffs in there and some nice postuering by the singer. Dunno what the fuck he was saying inbetween songs, but a bit of banter is always a good thing. Another band added to my rapidly increasing list of decent Aberdeen bands.

Bench: Last time I saw them was at a battle of the bands at 'Dus when they were a three piece. Wasn't particularly impressed by them then. They have gotten worse. The ridiculous amount of feedback throughout the gig didn't help, but I'm calling the RSPCA about those cats that were strangled onstage. 15-year-old's angsty lyrics (those that I actually heard) coupled with "I wish I was Matt Bellamy, but unfortunately for you I'm not" type wailing. Me and my mates counted maybe 3 songs in a 45(?) minute set. Whether or not it was just that they all morphed into one big noisey mess is unclear. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I was outvoted 2 to 1. Whatever it was, they were pish songs. And what was with the bow? Again, maybe this was due to the feedback, but it didn't seem to be making any fucking noise, or at least none worth making. Anyway, Jimmy Page looks cool using it for Dazed And Confused; anyone else just looks like a prat.

Remember folks: just cos you're mad at your dad, it's no reason to take it out on the audience's ears.

Little Kicks: This was the best Little Kicks gig I've been to yet. Shame about strings breaking on TWO guitars (the second one was nicely dealt with by Stefan Henchoz at the end), but the sound levels were spot on, which to be (un?)fair is a rarity at a Little Kicks gig! Good to actually hear what Toby was playing for once (eeet's worth it wah wah WOO wah), and the drums and bass are sounding better nowadays (dunno if that's due to the new arrivals or if I'm usually just too pissed to notice). The new songs are great, the last one inparticular being a bit of a (T). "On the whole a very good effort, seven on ten. Let's make love" (Partridge, series 2 episode 5).

I'm deducting a point for the lack of Manics or Clash covers, and also so it would fit in with the Partridge quote.

  3. Psydoll' date=' I hope you realise that the comment wasn't directed at you. But everyone who named a band they thought of as "worst aberdeen band" got it wrong. That's not what the thread was asking.[/quote']

Aye, I thought it was supposed to be about who were the worst musicians in Aberdeen, hence Phillip saying "SOME of Gilman Street would have to be in it" but then everyone started just naming bands they thought were shite.

But hey, I'm all for bitchin in rock n' roll (Nicky Wire, 1993 and me, just now)

  4. hehe' date=' honest it gets funnier every time that happens... :bat:

i think it'll just be pay on the door for saturday, tell your friends though. we will hopefully begin recording more stuff soon. maybe an album for next summer, it's under discussion at the moment.[/quote']

Nice. Well I know of at least one mate who'll definitely like your stuff, him being a fellow Interpol appreciator.

  5. Before I go on' date=' this is not aimed at anyone directly... Just at the Aberdeen 'Scene' if you will...

... I really have to say that alot of people who post on here, who do not actually play in a band, or have any musical expeirience; Just immediatley slate the first thing they see or hear, because someone will say they dont like it, and everybody else follows suit.

    This is really bad people.

But what annoys me most about all these people who post on here, slagging off other bands, with thier huge amount of knowledge on music, is that, If they think they can do any better, than why dont they go ahead and show us whats really good, and is absolutley the most kick ass thing in the 'scene'. Alot of people on here have what I like to call 'Kerrang Writers Syndrome'. Everyone has opinions, and thats ok, they are like an ass hole everyone has got one, but the thing is... is that you are all way too opinionated for your own good... No matter how much alot of you think you know about music, you have no right to slate and slag and put other bands down, if you yourself know that you could not step up to the plate and try and go one better... Your not ace music critics... Alot of you are all a lame bunch of retards, that have nothing better to do with your worthless lives than sit and slag people off and think your brilliant for it... Its pathetic...

Come on... Why put other bands on the circuit down, by having stupid posts like this... No good will ever come of these types of posts... people just get aggrevated...

So whats the point? somebody please?

    :band:[/quote']

Yes, let's all pat everyone on the back, say "Good-oh chaps, that was splendid," all the while thinking "That was the most god-awful pish I've ever had the misfortune of hearing in my life," and then go for tea and crumpets in the garden on a nice sunny day with birds singing and butterflies fluttering.

Alternatively, you could explain what the point is in making people think they are good when they clearly aren't.

If you go to a restaurant, and the food is the most vile excuse for a meal you've ever had to eat, would you think "Oh I mustn't complain. I'm not a gourmet chef, and therefore I don't have the right to slag off this cooking"? No. You'd be pissed off and you'd make your feelings known to the chef, in the hope that it would make him try to improve.

There are two types of people required for music: those who make it, and those who listen to it. If those that make it are useless, then why should those that listen to it put up with it? Criticism is what drives bands to become better, otherwise complacency creeps in and you get lazy and pish.

(Incidently, I can and will do better than almost everyone I've ever seen in Aberdeen thus far. I'm just restricted by my lack of band members at the moment.)

  6. Bought the Dedalus/Politik EP today.. fuck, it's good. Politik are pretty decent, but Dedalus are absolutely superb. It's like Interpol, but better.

Also got the My Mind's Weapon CD... pretty good stuff, although it's a shame they have that FFAF-esque spastic screaming backing vocals. And the lead vocals themselves are perhaps a wee bitty on the weak side.

But overall I think I've been a bit hasty thinking there were no decent bands going about Aberdeen... :O I suppose if you dig amongst shit for long enough, you'll come up with a diamond eventually.

  7. Mr Hummer of intense evil' date=' I like you because you are correct! Anyone who likes the Libertines is under the wrong impression that they have anything new or valid or original to offer. The sooner he OD's the better. Junkie talentless prick.[/quote']

But if he OD's, he'll (wrongly) be immortalised as some sort of troubled genius. He's already being touted as a "poet"

Look at how big they've gotten after the burglary stunt. I'd rather wait till they just fade away.

But thanks, I always appreciate a fan.

  8. I'm sure they have stuff in that pure volume place' date=' but they also have a site, maybe it's mymindsweapon.com , I aint too sure.

Hmmm, I cant help but notice that you play an intresting array of instruments, whats your future plans for music-ing?[/quote']

Well I've tried putting bands together before, but nothing comes of it. In some cases it's lack of commitment from the other parties, in others it's me being a bit anal in my vision of what I'm looking for. So I'm trying to put a demo together at the moment.

However, it's unlikely the saxaphone will appear on it, and the french horn is a definite no no. Since I don't actually own one...

So basically, I'm gonna make a demo and then find band members who will play along with my Stalinist view of a band...

  9. Erm' date=' we are talking about Aberdeen, Scotland yeh?

I've heard far too many bands that sound like this, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and then some!!![/quote']

Well I wish I could say the same.

  10. You lucky sod!

I longed to see him in either Perth or Paisley' date=' what do you think of 'Your Arsenal?'[/quote']

If you think I'm lucky, my sister is seeing him in Edinburgh three days before, as well as the Perth gig!

Your Arsenal has immediatly become my favourite Morrissey album, although I haven't listened to Vauxhall and I yet. But it's just better than Viva Hate and You Are The Quarry, and a fair bit better than Kill Uncle.

In fact I think I like it even more than Strangeways, which is my favourite Smiths album.
