Since when do you like films?
The Good, The Bad and The Weird: This is a korean remake of its almost namesake. Also known as "Joheunnom Nabbeunnom Isanghannom". I thought it would be ridculously shit but it was actually good, if you like fighting, action and Korea's finest actors. "The Bad" is played by the man who portrays Stormshadow in the new G.I.Joe film.
If you enjoyed that then I would check out director Kim Ji-woon's previous titles. Top filmmaker IMO.

Let the Right One In
In a decade where audiences have gone nuts over fantasy/monster releases, I think I need to mention my favourite vampire film of all time, Swedish title Let the Right One In.
It's a unique fairytale, which mixes childhood drama, fantasy and romance to create one of the most beautiful and heartfelt films I've ever seen. The performances from the child actors are mesmerising and genuine. I particularly love the photography, which showcases a desolate and atmospheric backdrop. I cannot recommend this film enough and urge anyone and everyone to see it.

OK sorry for the random question but I'm looking to speak to a South Korean. I know some of you's are students or whatever so I would greatly appreciate if you could arrange for me to speak to a Korean.
Reason being, I'm thinking about going to Busan and Seoul for the film festival and football match respectively. Obviously planning to make a holiday out of it but just looking for some advice.
Again sorry for what seems like a pretty stupid question but any help appreciated. Somebody told me that the guy who serves sushi at Market St or wherever is Korean?

Yeah, i saw deathproof. I thought it was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed it. But i'm a tarantino entusiast so i was expecting as much. I was just gutted it wasn't released as grindhouse.
Well good news for you is that Japan will get a not 1, not 2, not even 3, or 4, or 5... but a bloody 6 DVD Boxset (which includes the full Grindhouse cut)!!! The Japanese always get mental DVD sets and I've never understood why. I had to go to Japan to get the full uncut versions of Kill Bill (ok I could've bought them online but decided to pick them up whilst I was on holiday).
Expect to shell out around 50-70 for it though lol.
I too am a Tarantino Fanboy but I thought Death Proof was one big lesbian movie. Planet Terror (IMO) was miles better. Anyway here's the spec for you:

I thought this was a lot of fun but couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. It would've totally worked if they had more songs (which were the best part of the film) - i.e. gone for a full musical approach. The dialogue-only scenes (well some of them) were kinda lame. But nah, worth a watch if you're a D fan like myself.

Pity it's censored. You can get the uncut R3 for a tenner delivered from cd-wow.

You're quite right. I should've elaborated more, sorry.
I really liked the style and tone, almost noir-ish in execution. It's more akin to the original graphic novels (which were quite dark, completely different from the 80's cartoon series). The story had a nice approach but suffered from dodgy villians (completely childish, non-scary monsters). Also I don't believe in hiring well known stars for voice-acting, just for the sake of it. Only do it if they can do a good job. Zhang Ziyi sounded completely out of place with her dodgy "Engrish."
I described the film as "decent" because despite its flaws, I'm a Turtles fan and it was fun to watch.

Not sure if anyone's into classic John Woo movies (i.e. A Better Tomorrow 1 & 2, Hard Boiled, The Killer and his masterpiece - Bullet in the Head).
Well there's a new HK film that you MUST check out. It's called Exiled and it's one of the finest action-dramas I've seen in recent years. It marks a welcome return to the poetic bullet-ballet, which John Woo made famous.
It's a story about loyalty and friendship within the Triads. The slow-mo gun fights are so nicely choreographed. Talk about precision and bloodshed. Superb.

I've never been barred, as I'm usually quite a nice guy (I have commited a few barrable offences though). My flatmate got barred from Queen Margret Union (Glasgow Uni) for giving a bouncer the finger behind her back. The bouncer turned around but my flatmate was too drunk to react - he continued to give her the finger for a good minute or so before he realised his mistake. He then called her a racist and that's what did it (the bouncer was white, my mate's chinese).

Oh btw, it's got Zack Snyder at the helm - the guy responsible for Dawn of the Dead remake (which I personally thought was fantastic and vastly superior to the overrated original).

The only reason I go to the Aberdeen Cineworld is because I have a monthly pass, which works out to be great value.
However due to the limited number of screens, we only get garbage mainstream titles.
The Glasgow Cineworld, on the other hand, is 100% sex. Arthouse and contemporary films all the time (as well as mainstream pish).

I always hated the Premier Screen, introuced back in the days of Virgin Cinema. The seats were never as comfortable as they made out (certainly no more than a regular seat). Ok so if you were a fat ass, then you had a little more room. 10 for a ticket was a joke, although it did include snacks and table service. However, I don't like to eat or talk during a movie so that was a waste of money. The only positive thing I could say (and it's not a big deal) is that the extra leg room was kinda nice.
From a business point of view though, UGC and Cineworld suffered from Virgin's mistake, after they inherited the building. With something like 20 seats in the hall (exaggeration I know), capacity was significantly smaller than the other eight screens.
But I've noticed that Cineworld were renovating the premier screen - I saw all the old chairs being thrown out. I was chuffed until I watched Black Dahlia in the premier screen. I expected them to completely reshape the floor in order to accommodate as many seats as possible. Well all they've done is remove the tables and replaced the old seats with new more comfortable ones that recline back (they squeak at the slightest movement though).
Whilst the new seats are decent, I would've converted the premier screen to a normal one. Surely the purpose of a cinema manager is to get as many bums on seats as possible?
Oh and I was disappointed with Black Dahlia.

I saw a bit of this on telly last night' date=' on Charlie Brookers US Screenwipe. It's R Kelly's "hiphopera", and I can't work out if it's meant to be ironic or funny or satirical or serious or what, either way it's extremely fucking wierd. This is part nine, the rest of it is on youtube.
What a coincidence because I also saw that on telly on the same programme. Had me in stiches - will need to watch the whole thing on youtube.
