  1. pissed off but not completely distraught Cambridge got dumped out the FA Cup by Luton today, shame I couldn't make it... bizarrely Cambridge City our former fierce rivals made it through to the first round, good luck to them!

  2. So pissed off I cannot attend Cambridge v Luton in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round tomorrow, should be a cracker and new head coach Richard Money has a point to prove against the team who sacked him a couple of years ago... we'll probably lose in any case!

  3. I went back to my European adventure when on holiday last week, managing SC Bastia in France, finally qualified for the Europa League and got to first knockout round before being dumped out by Man U, ran them mighty close mind. And won the French League Cup so got a trophy in the cabinet even if it is a bit tin pot and I avoided all the Froggy big guns! Finished 5th in the league three seasons on bounce. Oh well that's my FM12 career at a halt now, bring on FM13!!!

  4. my disappointment with the Rod Hull/Emile Heskey clip is that Emu was nowhere to be seen, would have been hilarious to see Heskey attacked by that pesky bird!

Lolpool losing tonight to Udinese but hey only the Europa League so doesn't technically count.

All change at Cambridge today as we go all posh with our manager reverting to the director of football role he had before and Richard Money appointed head coach...

  5. Wow some entertainment at the proud home of conference toilet football the Abbey Stadium tonight... we're in shit form no win in five and manager Jez George made the bold decision to drop a number of players who more than under performed in the 4-1 home tanking by Wrexham last Saturday which I missed as was in Aberdeen and watched from the comfort of an armchair, vodka and coke and updates via Sky Sports News (in HD mind!). The game was shifted to the evening as it was being shown to two pubs, one man and his dog via satellite channel few have heard of Premier Sports.

Why on earth they thought Cambridge United v AFC Telford was worthy of live TV coverage is beyond me but they evidently knew something was in the air as it was a corking match. 0-0 at half time, we had enough chances to put the game to bed but as is always the case when things ain't going your way, they just refuse to go in (hit the post twice, bar once and had an effort cleared off the line which looked suspiciously like hand ball.

Same old scenario start of second half we conceded early. The 60 odd Telford fans and their drum went a bit mental, they already beaten title favourites Luton Town away this season so are no mugs. We continue to siege their goal and get our just rewards with 2 goals in five mins. 15 mins to go, we're in control surely nothing can go wrong??? Then with less than ten minutes on the clock we start playing a bit sloppy, giving the ball away... the usual crap you expect from fifth tier players. They score a screamer... 2-2. Ok a draw we'll take that. We look nervous though. Then they score another... bugger we don't deserve this. With so many goals and with both teams having made three subs, the fourth official announces five mins of stoppage time. We waste a fantastic chance, you know that chance you always get late in the game. Then two mins into stoppage time a couple of Telford players are holding our between 15 and 50k depending on which report or message board you read striker Sam Smith upright. At first we thought there was some fisticuffs but as time progressed he'd evidently sustained a serious injury (head clash we think as one of the Telford players who was holding him completed the game with a bandage on his head). It was an off the ball incident so didn't see exactly what happened.

The injury break took an age and Smith was stretchered off (he'd only literally come on as a sub) and the game restarts. Ball breaks to Tom Shaw who thrusts past a number of Telford players to thrust the ball home from outside the penalty area in the 110th minute, crowd (a poor one as well less than 2,000) go mental. We get a more than deserved point, it feels like a win.

This is why I love football so much and watching it live. You couldn't script that. Final score 3-3. Am happy tonight.

  6. fair point, does Levien always play one up front??? This is what the Cambridge boss is under fire for at the moment which does seem a bit daft since we have six strikers on the books even if two of them are out on loan (but only for a month)

  7. Total Recall

Went to see the remake yesterday and was very impressed. Being a big fan of the original, I was more than sceptical but they pulled it off. Farrell is surprisingly good and it looks absolutely stunning. Also surprising was Bill Nighy's cameo was really poor and you can usually depend on Nighy!

  8. Surely its time Levein and Fletcher resolved their differences, I mean a 13 million quid striker (ok over inflated price but still a very good player who bagged a couple on his Sunderland debut) not even in the squad? Seems madness considering Scotland's limited resources. I don't what the falling out was about mind and if its resolvable.

Oh well my team got a good solid home 4-1 home thumping by Wrexham Saturday which I missed but by all accounts was shocking even by our own usual disgusting standards! So some early season panic setting in... five without a win, things can only get better is what I always tell myself in time of a crisis!

  9. then again he has not played for a bunch of also rans like Stoke ever.... well maybe Newcastle when he helped them get relegated but not sure how many games he played that season.... he has not started a premier league game for two years. damn shame though cos he was such an amazing player in his day but I really think his major mistake was leaving lolpool....

  10. A nice refreshing start to the fortunes of my beloved Cambridge United this season, no win in four after last nights plucky 3-2 defeat at Luton Town. Usually we do quite well till Christmas then go really crap in Jan/Feb/March to extinguish any play off hopes bar in 2008 and 2009 when we made the play off final. We did ok last night against the biggest club in the division but still another defeat!

So Michael 'I still got it, really I have in my own mind' Owen has signed for Stoke, Lolpool will be gutted... Heskey still available though!
