  1. 5!

Fudge is FIVE!!!! That's 5 years! 5 years of dedication, top fanzines, fine compilation cd's and nonsense! More power too em! CONGRATULATIONS GENTLEMEN!!

(lookin forward to Thursday by the way)

    P.S

I thought the SPD's fuck up of thier 2 second song was hilarious. Brill fun!

  2. Is there an open mic night on tuesday the fifteenth?

If so is there any amps etc there?

Or just how do these things usually work?

Yes there is an open mic this week, open mic at drake's began I the year 1572! There is a bass amp and a kit set up, the guitars (acousitc) are put through the P.A. Turn up, ask the host when you want to play then get on stage. It tends not to be an open jam session (if the hosts are paying any notice), but a song based affair with many varied and wonderous noises emanating from the drunkin public.

    :help:

  3. Dance if you wanna dance! Sit on yer ass and enjoy the music if you wanna! It's open till three and free! I have considered a happy hour in the past. It's hard though, being that every fricken penny that comes through the till is accounted for about a month prior. we are unbelievably fucking independant! But do our best to please... Valehella has and will have my full support for a long time. Without question the most original alternative night in a very very very very long time. You won't get it anywhere else. WOOOOOHAAAA for Dave and Rory!!!!!!

  4. Memory....

    1) Looking forward to playing a seated audience.

    2) Opening the envelope for best metal act and finding that it was near unreadble due an abuse of pritt stick...

    3) Being surprised that anyone knew who the fuck Staccato Set are!

    4) Dr Drake's again winning thte 'best venue award. Proving that a little bit of grot on the carpet, respect for bands and punters, no fear of volume and quality control when booking bands, over profit, gets noticed... Thank you.

    5) Playing a fine wee set to a seated audience and realising that I was way more pissed behind the drums than I have been of late, and not giving a fudge.

    6) being scared when Bri was grinning and clapping at me during our last tune

    7) How fucking cold it was outside!!!

Many memories more but I'm hungry...

  5. Lets face it... Chicago Rock Factory? Not realy worthy of a mention here. Nothing to do with music takes place there... Bet you if I mention the Bash Street Kids and say that they are the best band in Aberdeen. Someone (most likely the drummer of said band) will take me seriously! Gotta laugh. Same as when someone say's to me that they saw a great live band at 'Jumping jokes'.

Check the listings for Drake's. 65-70% of the line up tends to be lower tier bands/acts touring and now heading to Aberdeen. The more punters that turn up the more we book! Faboooooluss wee venue and a faboooooluss bookings manager (Shaz) that has spent a great deal of time building contacts and a reputation. Minimum requirement at this end of ithe music industry!!!

And Flash... Thanks again for the phone number you passed on. Very helpful.

  6. A local music scene does not, surely, just consist of local bands? I would say that all bands no matter how big or small, no matter how far they travel, or what genre of music, contribute to what is a so called 'local music scene'. Without bands being booked by promoters, dragged kicking and screaming to the far north, I fear a would be potential for an insular approach to live music... A narcissistic attitude is all fine and well but there has to be a point when the focus must turns outward. Many many times have I watched bands from outwith Aberdeen play in Drake's, and yes more often than not they are outstanding in their professionalism. Is it not this that can add something to an area? Bands inspired by bands? Punters/musicians inspired to start bands? Music inspiring music? Aiming higher than the local scene is nothng to be ashamed of. So in summary... If there are a great deal more bands travelling to this fair city then many should benefit. The business man however has to dig in the heels, take a close look at the product provided and ensure that an ability and desire to adapt brings positive change and development to a 'scene' that needs reminded every day of how (local and national) culturaly important it is and should be. I make no apologies for the discurssive nature of this message. Every sentence could have it's own thread but I couldn't be arsed!

  7. I've seen tiny little guys hanging around in Drake's... I mean really small! They think the place is fucking massive! A concert venue!!! They get in for nothing because money is too big for them to carry. I've heard them comment on the noisey guitars that play bits on their own in the middle of songs. They are scratching their tiny little heads at the time!!! Bless em. Tiny ickle so they are...
