  1. i can't believe i missed this post .............

    i went to the gig

this has been my month of being little miss shmoozie or something

first off we waited to meet tori so i could give her the artwork i'd made her (extras from my degree show)........i twittered like a fool and she is the cutest lady ever and so petit and so pretty.......my boy also gave her his cd

then we were upgraded to the front row because of a competition we entered 0_0 which was jaw dropping and we got to run up to the front of the stage at the end............it was amazing just because i was so far away the last time i saw her

weirdly though she ended up not playing many of my favourites that night except ....Father Lucifer........i thought ...Yes, Anastasia...was amazing too and Merman............and typicly she did something quite different with....The Beekeeper i *think* which made me like it more than i previosly had...and Hey Jupiter was pretty cool

you know ........there's a site where you can download most of the live covers? will have to ask my boy where it is.......

i do however have a video of some of the Glastobury stuff .........including what i thought was the most adorable and fun cover of Simon and Garfunkle's - Feelin' Groovy.................overall i much preferred the Glastonbury set..............she played Leather ^_^ ....for a start

the shmoozyness comes again when we met the Dresden Dolls again at Glastonbury........only this time i wasn't such a drooling fan.........this time it was more to go say hi and stuff......Amanda poked my cheek ....which i liked......i also told her that her Tori Amos post on the Dresden Journal was hilarious.........

...........go read it if you haven't ^_^

we bumped into Thomas Truax too...........(love his shows) ........and he was looking for Amanda as they are friends (which i didn't know but is unsuprising)........

    anyway.........apologies for my mis-guided hungover groupie twitterings...........heh

now i'm gonna pimp my boyfriend

    www.theboylackspatience.com

he's been called the male Tori Amos and Beethoven meet Ben Folds.........and is a bit Dresden and a bit Rufus.....but also very himself...........so i guess you peoples might like his stuff.............

he's also playing a free gig with Finniston and the Gallow Crows (i *think* that's their name) on Friday 15th (next Friday) will post abot it soon..........starts at 9am..........i love his music......and i'm not really biased because it's what drew me to him

website is in need of a serious update and downloadable versions of his better songs............album is being recorded just now too

    **drunken-girl signing out**

  2. you know..........when the Dresden Dolls gig was first annouced ............i was in One-Up three days in a row and kept forgetting to buy tickets..........

.........so i thought fuckit........i'll just be lazy an buy them online as i was buying my Edinburgh tickets from see.com anyway

i got my Edinburgh tickets fine (except they spelt things wrong 'the DresdAn Dolls' apparently) but i got a pissy e-mail saying they couldn't get my tickets to me in time for the gig (which was like 3 months away at the time and is still over a month away) 0_0 and i have to take the e-mail to the moshulu box office along with the credit card i used to buy the tickets (which i since cut it half)

anyway..........i'm just hungover/still drunk and whining abotu nothing important...............i just thought it was silly and i fell more secure when i actually have my tickets for something

  3. All i can really add is what a great night' date=' we really enjoyed all of it, even managed

to speak to Thomas & the singer from buzfuz. Anybody going to Glastonbury should go see Truax, he is apparantly playing a few times.

    :D:D:D[/quote']

damn i'm busy but i had to chirp in with everyone and say Truax was AMAZING and i too told him i would hunt him down at Glastonbury :) about 3am ....i'm told a few times too

  4. ha ha' date=' common ground!

sorry if I came across as getting at you or a bit harsh in places. I think at heart we all want the same thing which is eclectic, interesting music in town rather than the safe, bland tours that seem to be well attended. I do accept this isn't always the venues or the staff at these venue's blame.

You are right about a balance of understanding. I think constructive criticism & comments to the people concerned is the way to get what everyone wants - which means less bands like Maiden Scotland, The Complete Stone Roses and MacFloyd!![/quote']

heh...... ^_^ cool.......i'm glad you get where i'm coming from now.......and it's pretty much the same place.....we do all want the same thing really yes :)

  5. I think its very strange that a publically funded arts venue' date=' SHOULD without doubt be attracting artists like those named above, however it should be covering a BROAD musical remit all the time, like it does with its upstairs shows in theatre & dance (so to retain its funding & sponsorship). A good friend told me, that the BLANDING out of its music policy makes the Lemon Tree a bit of a laughing stock with the people who used to care about it.[/quote']
I'm all for a broad remit of dance' date=' theatre, etc - anything creative, basically.

The real bug bear I have with the Lemon Tree is the amount of tribute acts, though - I'm fed up of these glorified pub covers bands. It's lazy, uninspiring & insulting to their clientle.[/quote']

Aberdeen City Council Funds the Lemon Tree........it wants it to put on mostly music as it has other Arts Venues............it wants it to put on music which makes money to help with financial difficulties

    he's where the problem comes

the Scottish Arts Council also funds the Lemon Tree...........it wants great theatre and eclection and interesting projects.........it see's the Lemon Tree as an Arts Venue which clashes with the view of the City Council

it needs both of those funders to survive as well as the public........so keeping all of them happy is quite a task which may not be achievable

  6. It was myself that was commenting on Moshulu's lack of variety. I'm fully aware of costs & logistics involved in getting bands up.

However' date=' you simply seem to be saying "here's what's on - just be f*cking grateful, eh?" which I find a little scary - surely Ross (& The Lemon Tree for that matter) are open to suggestion from their customers & take criticism or comments on board accordingly? You seem to view watching a band live as simply an act of commerce which I find a little surprising.

And I don't think I should necessarily be happy about the "eclectic" mix we have - why should I be happy that 80s novelty trash like Europe or Vanilla Ice are here rather than, say, SUNN o))) or Four Tet or Anthony & The Johnsons?

Don't get me wrong - i'm not calling for financial lunacy on the part of venues. I am, however, looking for variety & enlightment when I view a band. Putting on a band is surely for the punters & not for the accountants?

I'm not slagging Moshulu or anyone else off here, I just feel blind acceptance isn't an option - and I'm sure that Ross feels the same.

One last thing, I've sort of been waiting for someone to jump to "poor" Ross's defence in a sycophantic or matey manner - looks like I wasn't disappointed there......[/quote']

i didn't mean that quite as you seem to have taken it.........i was trying to be concise and to the point is all

of course they need this space to find out what the people want .........it's just that some of the people are repeatedly using the term 'rip-off' which just isn't what it's about

hell........of course i'd like to see Anthony and the Johnsons....

0_o man you make me sound scary...i didn't even say 'fucking'........largely what i meant was that the Lemon Tree is amazingly still going after the troubles it has had........and maybe it is just me........but i want to be happy that we still have it especially because that's due to the efforts of people who care about it's survival.....i was trying to be positive.... not lecture people like bad children

''sycophantic or matey'' great....man........i wish these things weren't taken so literally.......i don't think i was even trying to defend him specifically........i think i'd just become generally irritated that no-one seemed to register how things are run and kept together.......whether it be the Lemon Tree or Moshulu.....i should have just said i just agreed with what he said in the other thread which referenced the Lemon Tree

and i certainly don't see it as an act of commerce.....but it is about survival which was my main concern......although we want enlightening acts........to sustain that which we want sometimes means hosting shows which make money.........this also happens when you are answerable to a funder

i understand that you have an awareness of how things are run........and i'm sorry that you seem to have taken what i have said the wrong way ......i'm just finishing my degree and have tonsilitus and generally dyslexic and lazy with articulation at the best of times....so i probably just said it wrong

all i was really trying to was get a balance of understanding between everyone because the criticism and comments i saw didn't seem very constructive or fair.........but maybe i've just seen too much from the other side and not so much as a customer anymore....anyway.........i didn't want to provoke that kind of response so i'm hoping i've been more understandable this time 0_o i wish i could convey tone better in text

  7. when i used to check the board before i recently joined' date=' i remember somebody else

getting annoyed about the lemon tree pricing on LCD soundsystem, well belatedly

i agree its a RIP OFF.

    back to studies[/quote']

as misterdale said.........pricing is not always controlled by the venue depending or whether the venue is hired out for an event etc.........it can also cost more to get acts this far north the Lemon Tree is also an Arts Venue.........non profit making and largely sustained by the Arts Council and Aberdeen City Council........which we should be very happy about because this is why we can still get an eclectic and varied mix of damn good events in Aberdeen (not to say that some smaller venues are not also doing a good job)....only the other day someone was complaining about lack of variety in Moshulu's gig line ups and poor Ross had to explain that it wasn't for lack of wanting that.......but sustaining the venue relies on booking acts which make money.............you can't have it all ways.......so think a little about how things are run and be grateful for what you get.......these kinds of companies aren't trying to rip you off..........large corporations ...yes.....these guys and the musicians........no

  8. To be honest I was a bit worried they'd end just being a bit too nu-metal or whatever the f*ck the genre is called nowadays. Going on the Moshulu booking policy I had my lingering doubts (apologies if I'm generalising here but I've not seen a gig yet here that i've been remotely interested in seeing). I'm pretty sure i'll be going though.

    *giggles*

.....sorry .......not really laughing at you..........but someone percieving the Dresden Dolls to potentially Nu-Metal is kinnda funny :D tho i suppose i do get how you may have stumbled across the misperception

  9. and i forgot to say' date=' in my opinion Pinkie Maclure has the best voice in

contemporary music in Scotland. Her range is incredible, her style is even

more incredible torch songs, free folk, jazz, come see what the fuss is about[/quote']

a tipsy me returns from a Xenophon meeting.....on my way there tho.....i had to pick up my cds from the Tunnels after the boy lacks patience gig............i had been told to check out Pinkie Maclure the other day............and i liked what i heard in the sound check a LOT ^_^..........unfortunately.....i am drunk and have to go to bed and get up and go to art school tomorrow am to make sure my degree show happens.........but as for the rest of you ...........go see PINKIE MACLURE! ^_^ i reckon i'd like the rest of it too....i'm gonna go some other time

as for THRUM...........they ring bells in my little head......i'm tipsy and dyslexic (therefore only skimmed what was said) but i think when i was 13 (11yrs ago) my friend's sister's boyfriend was in Thrum and my friend (who incidently introduced me to the Pixies then) spoke about them quite a bit .....so that intrigues me too..........

all this is for a more coherant sober me who has finished her degree...........i'll check it all out properly then :) *twitter twitter twitch*

  10. So did anyone go? Did anyone like it?

yes and yes........but i really mean did anyone from here come etc? :)

Support Acts were even better than i remembered! and Nicky Sounded great with her band and backing tracks.....worked really well.........Finniston make a lovely sound too (i loooove the violin)........both supports made Chris and me nervous about his competance......then he got on stage and i remembered he was really good too *giggle* there was even an encore required ^_^ so for first Aberdeen headliner i think it went really well.....seemed pretty busy too

  11. I had Radio 1 on last night

"ooh' date=' there's the Little Kicks" I thought, "Cool..."

Then I thought "wow, that is really under par for them, I'm surprised they won with that one, they can do [i']far better than that."

Turns out I'd been listening to The Coral...

    there's no justice.

    *chuckles*

hehe......ashamedly i haven't heard the Little Kicks yet . . . but that sounds about right for the level of what gets played on the radio CONSTANTLY proportionate to the music out there that's actually good......

think i'm gonna be at a Ken and Barbie Q at Art School and simulataniously flapping around about the degree show......never the less i will try to highjack a stereo and see what i can pick up....unless i'm drunk by then and forget ^_^ doh

  12. yeah' date=' i thought the freeness was a killer feature too. will try to drag my brother & missus along to this one.[/quote']

    indeed...yes come :)

I saw a flyer for this gig in Kilau. Just listened to the tracks on the website. I might go I was really impressed' date=' sounded amazing.[/quote']

    cool ^_^ well don't be shy...come too

I think I'll pop along' date=' 3 great acts and its FREE!

Cool, just gonna listen to downlads da noo

    Andy

    [url']www.vocoustics.com

    excellant

    *gets excited*

i think i might do a spot of dj-ing.....could be like a warm up for Xenophon i suppose....but tonight will be a little more chilled ^_^

  13. it's so weird, i usually saw Nicky play when we went to the Malt Mill Open Mic night a lot....and really liked her....i only know her vaguely, Chris knows her better....and suddenly i made the connection the other night........and recognised the voice....see....one night i was working at the Lemon Tree and Colin from Biomechaniod (who i also only knew a little mainly through his lady Caroline)...was playing ...with female singer.....who i suddenly realised was probably Nicky (this happned about two years prior to her playing at the Malt Mill) so i raked through my cds a few days ago to find my Ammonite cd :D which is indeed lovely.....i haven't seen Nicky to go ....guess what?...etc or ask what she'll be playing or get Chris to ask her..but i heard rumour she's going a bit more electro again....but *think* Colin wrote the Ammonite stuff (don't quote me on that...maybe they co-wrote) ....one of the songs on her album really reminds me of the Cocteau Twins though.... ^_^ anyway...you should just come to the gig and check out Aberdeens little hidden treasures because it's FREE and stuff ^_^

  14. Support Now Confirmed and time change . . . .

Weds 18th May - Gig @ The Tunnels, Aberdeen.

    from 8.30pm. FREE ENTRY.

The Boy Lacks Patience is headlining this gig, which also features Finniston , a Glasgow-based brother/sister duo with great songwriting and lovely harmonies, and local girl Nicky Cairney, a blend of folk/pop/electronica with a gorgeous voice. It's going to be a night of great music, and free entry too :)

  15. The DD show will be ace beyond belief.

no doubt' date=' went to see them last December and can say it was the best gig i have ever been to . . . . plus the venue was teeny and we met them and they were lovely . . . now they supporting NIN and hard to book....but i think most people could see that coming.....i think i'm going to go be excited and go and put my Dresden Dolls Pics in my gallery. . . .

.....so about support Ross....how does that work, they had a kinda Caberet thang when we went to see them anyway . . . i know someone who might be very appropriate as a support act . . who will have their album recorded by then too[/color']

  16. I thought Stuart and Neil both portrayed themselves' date=' and the website, well on the show - despite the judge's obvious obliviousness in regards to forums... she sounded like my mum at times ("Fa are ye spikkin til?" "No one! Do you have to be addressing someone in particular if you post a letter to the P&J?"). [/quote']

my thoughts exactly ....only i was too lazy to describe it in my own post.......i couldn't believe how naive or how just plain ignorant she seemed about the way a site like this worked.......that made it impossible for her to be a good judge in the case 0_o
