  1. Shambling, living corpses are poised to claw themselves free of their earthy graves and devour their way to:

ELIZIUM - Saturday Night Out For The Living Dead

    20070616.png

A previously unreported side effect of ELIZIUM hydrochloride has come to light Prolonged bouts of death followed by what scientists are describing as a partial recovery. The press are calling it the rise of the dead, soulless hundreds swarming to the streets as a plague of the previously deceased.

With only one thing on their mind, these lurching miscreants are dragging their zombified bodies along to the epicentre of the disaster:

    THE TUNNELS

    Carnegie Brae

    SATURDAY THE 16th OF JUNE

    11pm till 3am - 3

Once there, who knows what will happen? Some sort of disco for the dead? Beats from the crypt? Distraught, blood-curdling calls for Braaaains? Maybe a battle cry for Zooombie Girrrrl? Or will the only sound we hear all night be Zombbbiiina and the Skeeleetoooones. That one from the Elusive CD please, because its dead good? Only one things for sure, if they recreate that dance from the Thriller video well be forced to call in the army.

Act or dress like a zombie for our amusement and you may even win a prize! Seriously, check out Elizium.net for details.

  3. "I have no intention of apologising. What I didn't do was compare Alex Salmond to Hitler. What I was talking about was that PR was used in Scotland, where we got Alex Salmond, and it was used in Germany, where they got Adolf Hitler."

It's still the same 'guilt by association' argument - The implication is clear that PR will lead to mass-murder and genocide in Scotland. Not exactly digging herself out of any hole, is she?

  4. Thats just the beginning. They get off the nazi theme very quickly and simply show what happens, and its pretty fucking sickening.

I'll have a watch of it either tonight or this weekend, but I tend to dislike sensationalist journalism even if I agree with most of the message.

  5. I reckon its enough to make anyone hang their head in shame.

I can't watch it at work, but I can read the script - How many 'guilt by association' montages can you squeeze in involving the Nazis, though?:

STILLS OF SLAVES; ADOLF HITLER; STOCK FOOTAGE OF THE KKK

AND SUFFREGETTES; AND FINALLY ANIMAL ABUSE.

PHOTOGRAPH OF RAPE VICTIMS, ABUSED CHILDREN, NAZIS
IMAGERY AND STOCK FOOTAGE FROM THE HOLOCAUST, (AN AERIAL

VIEW OF THE AUSCHWITZ CONCENTRATION CAMP) FOLLOWED BY

ANOTHER AERIAL VIEW OF A FACTORY FARM, WITH COWS HUDDLED

TOGETHER IN MASSES FOR AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE.

  6. The only reason vegetarians manage that is because they don't eat anything else really so thats a bit of a non-starter in my opinion.

I think it's a fair point - A lot of people are up in arms about vegetarians and vegans missing out on essential meat and animal byproducts, but most omnivores hardly maintain a healthy diet themselves due to not getting enough of what vegans and vegetarians do.

  7. I know I only manage 3 or 4 (starchy veg like potatoes don't count apparently) although one of those is the veg I have with my dinner, which I usually pile high on the plate.

It's the same for all those recommendations. How many people drink 8 glasses of water a day (ok, I manage this one)? Or eat 2 portions of oily fish a week?

I doubt many people eat and drink according to all the recommendations, but as long as you get close and hit a couple of them you'll probably be alright.

Part of the problem with all these recommendations is that half of them seem to come from nowhere - The 8 glasses of water a day is a classic one which to most people makes sense, especially considering the collective myths and half-truths surrounding sugary drinks and hot beverages. The truth of the matter is there's no basis for that recommendation - Urban Legends Reference Pages: Eight Glasses

  8. A recent review of the literature seems to show that vegans do have a lower bone mineral density than non-vegans, but the effect of this on bone fracture is inconclusive (AM Smith, Int J Nurs Pract. 2006 Oct;12(5):302-6.)

However, carefully controlled lacto-vegetarian and vegan diets can maintain calcium balance and keep bone turnover within the normal parameters. (K Kohlenberg-Mueller, L Raschka. J Bone Miner Metab. 2003;21(1):28-33.)

This would seem to suggest that a well-balanced and selected vegan diet can (at least in the short-term) maintain bone mineral density, however the review suggests that either (a) most vegans do not keep a well-balanced diet or (b) a well-balanced diet does not maintain bone mineral density in the long term. Either way, the suggestion most vegans are falling down and snapping in half is inconclusive.

Calcium-balance is critical in rapidly growing children and teenagers, so I would be concerned about ill-informed or poorly-planned veganism in teenagers affecting bone development. Similarily, bone mass and calcium balance is critical in post-menopausal women - So I'd also be worried about vegetarian and vegan diets in the elderly.

To be honest, for the target age of this website I'd be more concerned with Vitamin D levels up here in Aberdeen. No point in worrying about RDA's if your body can't cope with taking up and processing all that calcium.

  9. I lent out all of my nutrition books and can't actually check how much greenery you need to consume to get high levels of calcium but if my memory serves me correctly it's not as unreasonable as you might assume.

Based on an RDA of 1000mg/day and the USDA Nutrient Database, 2kg of broccoli florets a day should do it. Alternatively, why not try 5.5kg of iceberg lettuce a day.

Mustard spinach, however, is rich in calcium - You'd only have to eat 0.5kg of that a day.

  10. I've read Norwegian Wood, Dance Dance Dance and am almost finished the Wind Up Bird Chronicles.

A great author, thoroughly loved Norwegian Wood and have passed my dog-eared copy around to many folk with much enthusiasm.

  11. Quack Quack were band of the night for me, Teversham just behind and Pit Er Pat took until the last two or three songs to truly win me over. Liked Quack Quack last time they played, but was really impressed this time - I think the context of the evening was more in their favour this time around and their energy from the word 'go' was infectious. Magic way to start a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

  12. what about if the screams are in a no means yes, stop means go kind of context?

ASBO. Or staple your safeword to the front door. Either way, generally being considerate of the rest of the folk in the block is the way forward. I used to tell my neighbours when I had a party planned, perhaps avid BDSM fans could show the same grace?

My tongue's so far in my cheek it looks like I'm blowing the invisible man.

  13. I'd like to think if it was fun that maybe the screams would have a slightly different tone... but to be fair I probably wouldn't be able to tell from my flat. Good point actually.

Follow this easy to use chart:

Are the screams for 'help'? -> Phone police

Are the screams for 'harder'? -> Phone the Daily Mail
