It is their eighth album in a string that also includes the highly-acclaimed Thirteen Cities (2007), the sparse, stripped down The Fitzgerald (2005), and the alt.country classic Post To Wire (2004), which was named fourth best album of the year by Uncut, just behind Brian Wilson, Wilco and Loretta Lynn. The latest album, seen as the bands most accessible yet, was produced once again by JD Foster (Calexico, Richard Buckner, Laura Cantrell), who was at the helm for the last three albums. It featured multi-instrumentalist Paul Brainard on pedal steel, trumpet and piano and the core line up of Willy Vlautin (guitars, vocals), Sean Oldham (drums, vocals), Dave Harding (Bass) and Dan Eccles (guitars). The band, a long time critics favourire, is reaching further away from the Kings of Americana tag they were given by UNCUT in 2005 and more along the lines of Bon Iver, Wilco, and The National. Along the way, Willy Vlautins literate lyrical style has landed him a publishing deal. His first novel, The Motel Life, is already on its second print run and currently being made into a major motion picture, while his second novel, Northlne, also picked up fantastic reviews. Both novels are published by Faber and Faber. Fans of a certain kind of orphaned Americana are likely to fall on Post To Wire like apostles on The Grail. By which I mean anyone who's been touched where it hurts by American Music Club, The Replacements, Uncle Tupelo, Ryan Adams, Dave Alvin or Gram Parsons will soon be entirely enthralled with this dark and mesmerising masterpiece, brilliant. (Uncut Album of the month 5/5)Post To Wire emerges somewhere between Gram Parsons' slide guitar majesty and Lou Reed's narrated New York. The Characters become your neighbours and the tunes as familiar as friends, making Post To Wire a faboulous addition to the all-too-slim canon of passionate, literary rock'n'roll. (Guardian 4/5)Those of you alienated by the roisterous flash of Ryan Adams should hitch your horses to Richmond Fontaine's post right now. (Time Out)Singer Willy Vlautin has inherited Paul Westerberg's nose for Big Star power-pop choruses as well as his half-empty glass eye for a novelistic lyric. (MOJO)Burnished Americana; ringing Fender guitars, lachrymose pedal steel, dark balladry - imagines a less feral Uncle Tupelo, but winningly so. (Q)A dynmamic study of the American underbelly... (Independent 5/5)http://www.myspace.com/richmondfontaineALANA LEVANDOSKI is a roots music singer from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Alana's acclaimed second album, Lions & Werewolves, was recorded in a 100-year-old church in rural Kelwood, Manitoba, and at the upscale Parr Street Studios in Liverpool. The album was produced by British producer Ken Nelson, renowned for his work with Gomez and Coldplay. He has also worked with Badly Drawn Boy, Snow Patrol, Polly Paulusma and Paolo Nutini.BBC Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris said: I really believe in Alana. She is part of an emerging generation of new artists who are reflecting the range of influences that make Canadian music so exciting, from the brilliant free-form collective Broken Social Scene, to the authentic Country twang of Corb Lund. Her songs are intelligent, warm and strong. Shes a fine artist, and a trouper.http://www.myspace.com/alanalevandoski
